So, the good:

  • Love the color and asthetic
  • New tyres
  • Rear diff lock (yay)
  • Probably will have a gearbox but I want more than 4 speeds
  • DNR selector looks to be present
  • HiLo selector also looks to be present (unless its an 8 speed gearbox maybe)
  • Opening bonnet with prop sticK
  • Suspension all round
  • Steering wheel also steers with the HOG dial/wheels
  • 5 opening doors rather than 3 (not sure if its a 5 or 7 seater)
  • 4 wheel drive
  • engine with new engine parts

now the bad:

  • No fake disc brakes
  • No locking front diff
  • No cenral differential that I can see
  • No adjustable ride height
  • No winch
  • No built in points to add motors
  • No flappy paddle shifters
  • Wheel arches could have been covered with the new 1x2 tile with diagonal cutout (5091+5092) + some normal tiles

To be honest, front end does look a little amateur. The worst part are fenders. It is a pity that they did not used fenders from defender/Volvo hauler. Colour is a great way to re-use all space themed orange parts

So this is pretty much the same as the Lambo and Bugatti with the Land Rover. If you have the older model then the newer one  brings little to the table apart from adding to your collection.If you missed out and don´t want to pay reseller prices then the new one will make you happy.

Better buy a discounted Zetros plus the Audi tires and build the alternate model from Grohl. You end up with a motorized G-wagon with an actual working diff lock for the same price.

A normal Inline 6 would be too big to scale properly. Besides, they designed a whole new piston and cam system to make the small piston engines as smooth possible.

The fenders from the 42110 would not fit the style and the new tyres are bigger, so they may simply be too small.

I also like how it does not rely on specialized panels (fenders) for the bodywork which means it should be easy to recolor in black, red, yellow, dark bluish grey, white and probably even more colors.

I for one think it's a good set given the limitations designers face with a commercial product vs a MOC. The new tyres are really a welcomed addition to line up, they seem to have a smillar pattern as the Audi's ones. Regarding functions, there's at least rear locking diff, though I have a feeling one of the 2 - 3 levers hides even more functionality. Can't wait how to see how the rear suspension was designed, since there are no visible shock absorbers.

I hope the door handles actually operate door locks and not just be cosmetic. So far I like the set. More so than the McLaren P1 I must say.

I'm somewhat disappointed. Don't know what I was expecting. Shurely not impressed.

Actually I think the third lever in the cabin is for to choose between 4wd and 2wd mode. So if combined with the hi/lo selector we get the following modes:

Hi4wd (or AWD if there is a center differential)

hiRwd

lo4wd (or AWD if there is a center differential)

loRwd

Foward/neutral/reverse will be available for any of these modes.

The trouble is that the 42110 land Rover had 2 ways of engaging neutral (one for the DNR selector, and one tor the hi/po range selector) so surley the 2/4wd selector won't have a THIRD way of engaging neutral.

So  the next question is where is the gear selector in the cabin

I don't think we have ever seen something like that in a set, I hope you are right.

I for one feel quite pleased with this set! It avoided the pitfall of becoming some kind of luxed-up street cruiser, it's got a nice eye-catching color (Though annoying for combining with other sets, but at least it's good here), it's got great tires (Though I'd prefer something with more sidewall and less rim, but realistically this is still better than expectations), and I'd say it looks good. Sure it's not complicated bodywork, so there's a lot of simplistic stuff that has been done similarly by MOCers, but at the end of the day, the real vehicle has very simple styling, so it just doesn't require or need fancy techniques to get it to look good. It is pretty lame that the rear diff lock is controlled directly, but unlike the Defender, it at least has a rear diff lock, plus a more interesting solid rear axle. It's too early to judge it on drivetrain complexity, but given that there's two (or three?) controls in the cabin, it can't be too bad. Ideally there'd be a 2-speed transfer case and at least a 4-speed transmission, but who knows. I wouldn't expect a RWD/4WD selector, though, because doesn't the real car have a locking central differential? That implies a central differential, which implies full-time 4WD.

Anyways, I would say this set appears to exceed my expectations!

Perfectly said. Agree with all of it. And yes, yet to see how its drivetrain and transmission turn out. Hope we are not far away.
