February 13, 201213 yr The weights of the sets - e. g. price per kilogram. I've never really thought that the weight of a set had to do with the price, but that could be because I'm unfamiliar with a few of the aspects of pricing. I'd say that some of the sets (The X-Wing and the Y-Wing) likely weight the same, while the TIE Fighter and the Jedi Starfighter are probably much less than the newer 2012 versions. I hope I'm understanding your question correctly.
February 13, 201213 yr You understood correctly. I recall another member having noted some time ago that the price of a set increases with weight more predictably than with piece count, or something to that effect. It makes sense considering that weight gives a better portrayal of the amount of plastic. Edited February 13, 201213 yr by Fallenangel
February 13, 201213 yr I'm not entirely sure but I don't think we can discuss prices here. If I am mistaken I do apologize.
February 13, 201213 yr I'm just making an observation. I'm (and I assume everyone else reading this thread will) likely going to continue buying more and more of these sets, because for me the minifigures are the primary lure. I already have the old Y-Wing and the X-Wing, and most of the other sets that are being remade this year, but I'll get them because the minifigures are new and I'll have to have them because they won't be in other sets. Until they're made into magnet sets or keychains when the set's sales start to dip.
February 13, 201213 yr Prices will go up. You can't buy things for 1c here anymore. In fact, we don't even have 1 or 2c coins anymore. You're lucky if you can use a 5c coin for anything. Lego is not immune to inflation, and if you hadn't noticed, the presentation of this year's sets and packaging is heaps better than what we've had before. Printing is more vivid & consistent, parts are more detailed, the list goes on. Lego sets are getting better, money is getting worth less, of course the prices are going to increase as years go by. And price per piece is not a good way to gauge, by mass is a better way to indicate, and by ratio of uncommon parts. A box of 100 cheese slopes is not going to cost $10. This stuff is totally off-topic, and as usually happens when I join in, Kiel will tell me off in 5 minutes and move this somewhere else. Except that I still haven't really commented on the photos yet: I was really looking forward to CW Padme and she's awful. And I am a fan of the cartoon faces. It was the one set I might've bought. That and Pre Vizla, except there's no Ahsoka either so forget that one too. I will BL Even Piell and maybe Oola, and buy the planet sets.
February 13, 201213 yr I'm actually shocked at the good price for the Malevolance. Here in Canada, we usually get really bad prices, but $150 doesn't seem that bad. It's definitely not the horridly priced $80 Wheathertop in the LotR wave. My big question on the ship is as to why Anakin has a Season 3 torso. Edited February 13, 201213 yr by The Legonater
February 14, 201213 yr I agree with you on Padme, however unfortunately the characters are sometimes so bland in the films themselves that there's only so much that Lego can do. Malevolence is the only existing official Lego produced Confederate ship which can be used as an opponent to Venator. The Clone Wars era is also quite substantial and important in SW history and therefore saying that it is "less appealing to AFOLs" is a very big generalisation (and quite probably wrong). Although I do agree with you that it probably will take the back seat when compared to Jabba's palace and skiff. Just my personal observation that demand for SW OT > CW, don't want to delve into this too much in this thread, would be interesting to do a poll on this though
February 14, 201213 yr Great coverage of the toy fair so far. Boba Fett has some very nice leg printing and they changed his cape color which is accurate to the film too. I also like the new torso they made for Luke on the skiff. Overall $25 is worth it for 200+ parts and 4 figs. However I am also looking forward to seeing the finalized dark saber. Hopefully it will be a trans black 4L blade and a chrome black hilt.
February 14, 201213 yr I think that the prices are definitely skyrocketing as of the last 5 years, but Lego has in turn been producing nicer high end sets (Modular city, Diagon Alley, Medieval Market Village) and brand new molds all over the place (Collectible Minifigs ) and I think the three are related. I think that the new Jabba's palace is a BEAUTIFUL set with great new figs, but I don't think we ever would have seen something of this caliber had the prices not risen. I think you do get screwed on the low end - (BPs jumping 10% every two years, and a $25 skiff) but I also think that this goes hand in hand with higher end sets (UCS Falcon and UCS Shuttle) and tons of new figs and molds. You can't have one without the other.
March 13, 201212 yr On the new R2D2 I did a bit of maths for those in the U.S and worked ou R2D2 should be about $180.
March 13, 201212 yr On the new R2D2 I did a bit of maths for those in the U.S and worked ou R2D2 should be about $180. That price-per-piece ratio isn't bad at all. Of course I'm sure a lot of the pieces are small. I'm curious to see how much the set weighs.
March 16, 201212 yr Not really exciting news but for those of you that like polybag sets, I just noticed that Brickset has the 30058-STAP polybag listed as "Available from Walmart March 2012". Haven't made a stop at Walmart in over a month but a trip may be warranted. 30058 - STAP
March 22, 201212 yr Not sure if it was mentioned already somewhere, but the UCS R2-D2 is on S@H already. The bad news: You can't pre-order it (yet). The good news: It says it will be released on May 1st, so it will be available for the May the Fourth promotion.
March 24, 201212 yr A few good UK SW deals around at the moment. Pixmainia has the UCS Obi-wans Starfighter for great price of £60! This set is no longer on UK shop@home too. UCS Obi-wan's Starfighter Amazon UK has the Battle of Hoth game reduced by 28% to £17.99 Battle of Hoth
March 26, 201212 yr It seems the Darth Maul polybag has started to show up in good numbers on Bricklink at a semi reasonable price. They are all gone now but I am sure more will come along soon. BL DM Polybag price guide
March 26, 201212 yr Very cool about the UCS R2. That will be my May 4th purchase. There wasnt anything else that I want.

March 29, 201212 yr Prices aren't just down to inflation or greed. Lego is plastic, and plastic is made from oil. And oil, unfortunately, isn't getting any cheaper
April 5, 201212 yr Just left a local Meijer here in the states and I picked up an Ewok Attack set there for $12.49 USD. I got more as a parts pack and to have a couple extra ewoks (can you ever have enough ) They also are having sales on the 2012 battle packs ($10 USD) and Droid Escape ($15 USD). Just thought I would throw it out there for you all.
April 10, 201212 yr I was going to pick up the 10195 Republic Dropship and I found Lego finally discontinued it. I'm very sad.
