Sebbl Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 Years ago, while designing a Minecraft mine whose rail system can be reconfigured, I came up with a great idea: a castle that can be folded into other layouts within a few seconds using hinges. Now the time has finally come: I can proudly present you my Transforming Modular Castle. Built from a single LEGO set, the Lion Knight's Castle (10305), this design not only showcases versatility but also offers endless play possibilities. Concept and Design Drawing inspiration from traditional and fantasy castles, I designed this model to be more than just a static display. It features a groundbreaking modular design with six transformative hinges, allowing for a dynamic play experience. Flexibility in Layouts From a classic castle outline to a much larger layout with an extensive inner courtyard, this model can be twisted and turned into various configurations, showcasing the potential of a truly modular build. Multiple Configurations The castle boasts six possible layouts just by twisting the sections. If you split them, you can achieve even more different layouts, such as two independent castles. Access and Interactivity Fully open the castle to delve into the extensive interior filled with hidden details like trap doors, a crypt, and even a wizard's alchemy lab. It’s perfect for imaginative play or a striking display piece. Further Information Detailed instructions are available on Rebrickable https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-178022/ You also find a video showing the transformation and the interior there. My Question to You How should I name this modular concept? Since I will use this transforming modular layout for other models in the future, I want to find a name for it that makes it easy to talk about it. What do you think? Quote
Murdoch17 Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 Looks awesome! As for a name, I suggest: 'Transforming Modular Concept - 10305 inspired Castle' ...you can then replace the words after the hyphen with whatever theme you're modeling, such as: 'Transforming Modular Concept - 10027 inspired Locomotive Shed' or 'Transforming Modular Concept - 10228 inspired Victorian Mansion'. (These are just examples I pulled out of the air, but it works regardless!) Quote
GeoBrick Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 Its a nice concept, and clearly well-thought out. As for a name, I'd go for "Swift Shuffle System", or triple-S. ;) Quote

I'm glad my "transforming modular" naming approch resonates with you 😊 12 hours ago, GeoBrick said: Its a nice concept, and clearly well-thought out. Yoggington Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Having just been served your explainer video on YouTube, this is insanely well done! I'm not sure the pictures alone do it justice. Quote

Here's a review that shows more of the details: On 4/25/2024 at 4:37 AM, Artanis I said: Very clever! Thanks! It took me a long time to figure out this principle and to make it work smoothly. Quote

In a case like this, the video is helping to highlight all the neat features worth discussing - and better than just the pictures would. At least, that's how I understand it, I'm not a mod. It's super clever though. I am going to trial this concept at a smaller scale in a MOC I think. Quote

However, the big plates from this set didn't allow it and surprisingly, it worked out even with the larger scale 😊 I have so many ideas for applying this principle. As always , time is the limiting factor. I'm looking forward to your MOC! Quote
