Sorry, my previous reply was written in a bit of a hurry, since I saw I was a bit late to the party. It's not about what I want, it's about what all of us want, which is more activity in this part of the forum. At least that is what I've pulled from the previous conversations we've had after the last contest. My complaint was more aimed towards the regular users here, to maybe show some more love to Pirates theme in general. It's OK to like the classic pirates sets and style, but to stay permanently stuck in time with the outdated building techniques, old color schemes, to despise fleshy figures and anything that would require a small upgrade of ones collection is another thing. I don't know about the others but this sure is a bit repulsive to me. Long story short, regarding the poll and this topic, I really don't understand this:

Yes, niche among LEGO Pirate fans who've collected the classic sets...  which just so happens to be who the contest is aimed towards.

since I thought that the contests in general are aimed towards eurobricks users which have an interest in a certain theme, which in this case is Pirates.

Just trying to explain that the classic pirates theme narrows down the possibilities of luring fresh new builders to these parts and that in my eyes going for the Steve might not be such a wise decision especially straight after a heavily classic focused contest. Despite the polls showing us otherwise.

You certainly have a bad take on this.

While the objective of Return of the Classic Pirates contest was to submit entries in the style of official LEGO sets, classic and present, specifically to tie-in with the release of 10320 Eldorado Fortress; future contests and this forum in general have no such requirement.

Ever take a look at the MOCs in the Pirate MOC Sub Forum or Brethren of the Brick Seas Forum?

Because if you had paid attention, you'd notice builders who adhere to outdated building techniques, old colour schemes, and despise fleshy figures are a very small minority.

Despite Steve topping two of the three polls, I guess you were in too much of hurry to read this topic in its entirety, because in another post I specifically said:

I acknowledge that the Brethren of the Brick Seas crowd is enthusiastic about venturing beyond the traditional Caribbean setting.

So maybe that could tie in with The Infamous Steve - because Steve's adventures may have taken place all over the world.

Because there's no reason we can't have both to please the hardcore Classic Pirate fans and those who'd prefer more creative freedom, without going as far as saying "free choice".

When does the pole end? Looking forward to participating (already have a few ideas for different categories)

Polls in the LEGO Pirates Forum generally run for 2 weeks.

So I guess that's around about now!

I'll collate the results and provide full reporting over the weekend...  assuming time permits...

The Results

The poll results are in!

A complete break down of results for all three polls can be found here.

But here's the results averages:

From the breakdown analysis:

The Infamous Steve may have won by the law of averages, but Monkey Island Madness demonstrated a phenomenal lead in the Facebook poll, while Distant Waters gave Steve a run for his money in the LEGO Pirate Forum poll.

So what is a bloodthirsty pirate to decide?

Aye, what should we decide?

Well... in the interest of creative freedom we'll probably go with The Infamous Steve... but he may have traveled to Distant Waters during his many adventures.

So that should provide possibilities for entrants who want to tie their entries in with the lore established in classic LEGO Pirate sets... but also allow opportunity for those who want expand upon their horizons and explore pirates from other parts of the world.

Monkey Island Madness can be saved for another occasion.

Pop culture got my vote, as I even have a MOC idea that could go with it. Too bad it got so few votes... :pir-sceptic:

While I did play a few of the Monkey Island games, I don't think it's popular enough for a worldwide contest. :pirate:

Steve is such a weird category, I guess you can build almost anything and say it's got something to do with him.

No, not really, this isn't "free choice" with Steve.

Steve is not a time traveler so entries will need to be a pirate-themed MOC set within the Age of Discovery/early to mid Age of Sail, depicting technology available to that era.

But some flexibility will be afforded if someone wants venture outside of the Caribbean setting.

For example: on his voyage from Europe to the Americas, Steve was captured by Barbary corsairs.

Let me reiterate this. Anything PIRATE related can qualify. Build a ship and say it's his old/new ship. Build an island and say it's his old/new hideout. Build an (18th century) lavatory and explain that it's his workplace. :pir_laugh2: And so on...

Now you've got the idea!

That should afford plenty of creative freedom to those who don't have a Steve minifigure, or don't want to be too tied down to the classic Pirate set lore.

But definitely no pirates from pop culture! :pir-skel:

Is my Famous Steve can be an Infamous Steve ?

Well, he does look like a modernized version of the classic Steve minfigure so I guess it checks out! :pir-thumb:

Thanks for the compliment ! :pir-triumph:

It's only two  8x16 plates attached together with 99207, a lot of vegetation and dark blueish/dark sand rocks !  Nothing special.

I don't know when the contest will be start but I realy like to bring this Steve in an adventure. :pir-tongue:
