FibreOptics.jpg

That's a 3mm fibre optic cable for diy projects. A bit more milky because it's one that has a certain amount of light going out along the cable. Not the tightest fit with lego pins(as they have 3.12 something mm diameter) but worked well in my Delorean. And i assume it's a lot cheaper than anything from lego (around 8€ per meter)

Used to be, but there were too many complaints, I got bored of them. But let's focus on the car!

IMHO it was cool. You can never please everyone, but for me I'm always looking forward to your reviews.

Why would they complain about that kind of stuff?

If you want to realize how people can literally complain about anything (and also the opposite of that under the same video), the easiest way is to start a YouTube channel :)

Great reviews! Although, now that I have watched these firsthand reviews of the set, I will briefly say that I am very curious why TLG designed the new hub to have those two additional rotating outputs on the back side of it that we didn't see used in this set. It would make no sense to drive wheels with those outputs since there are already dedicated outputs for that on the sides of the unit, but it would make a lot of sense to drive boat propellers with them, because you would not need any 90-degree gear connections to change the axle mounting direction. So I am really starting to wonder if this is an early, obvious teaser for an RC boat set, or better yet, an amphibious vehicle set that we'll be getting from Technic sometime next year. I know that's probably a whole other conversation for a whole other topic on this forum, but I just thought maybe I should point that out real quick in case it is, in fact, a huge and important clue for next year's sets. Because this hub seems to perform surprisingly better than I thought it would in this set, and it would only make sense for TLG to want to reuse this part as much as possible in future sets to drive costs down.

I will say though that I am very curious

I seriously doubt you will see an official boat with this unsealed hub. Water can get inside via battery port, USB C port, wheel bearings or any of the other 15+ building holes.

The outputs are rotating counter-wise due to the simple nature of the design where the drive motors are placed longitudinally inside the hub. I do wonder what the gear ration between the different outputs is though...

I think the rear outputs are very useful for custom builds, as they allow for easier integration and I hope to see them used in the future in an official build.

Might be a bit off topic, but I have a feeling the upcoming 1:12 Toyota Supra might be motorized using the same hub.

It took way longer than I expected, but finally the full review is here:

Oh good, I'm glad I wasn't the only one struggling to drive the buggy in a straight line  Great review as always!

Overall it's not so impressive from a performance standpoint, I do hope the theories that this is a transition while a new system is developed are accurate - Lego has really been creating a lot of new elements lately, many of which IMO are very hyperspecialized and this definitely feels like it fits that bill, no doubt we will see numerous other cars that use a similar base set of functions as this one.

I think my favorite development with this system is the fiber optics, not sure that we've seen those used since Exo-Force and the execution here seems much better with the brighter lights. hopefully, they can find some ways to expand the possibilities of that with some kind of standalone modules in the future

The only 2 reasons I can think of for buying this set is for black 9 stud curved panels or for the hub and fiber optics. Also, a weird thing is that for optics almost bankrupted Lego in the late 20th century, why would they bring them back?

I've got the space shuttle and helicopter/airboat sets from my dark ages. If only I knew at the time they were a gold mine for parts!

I wonder how much torque that motor have. Considering it has only one planetary stage it will not much but still wonder.

I really enjoyed @kbalage review, but this may have shifted my willingness to buy this set upon release in a few weeks. I was expecting more speed, but compared to the 42124 it seemed to be lacking.

I also saw that in the video and wondered if the rear outputs are spinning at the same speed as the side outputs?

The hub itself is interesting because of the lights and the compact size, but I'll wait to see if the folks at BrickController get it worked into the app before I purchase.

I start to like this set! The rear end part of the exterior is very good looking (at least to me). But the front is a revival of the flat nose. The distinct porsche shape with the slightly more flat bonnet (compared to the fenders) is missing here, which makes the car look random.

I also wonder how long it will take till folks find a way to flash a non-lego-firmware onto the new hub.

Could be used to add a piston engine. ...Or imagine a Batmobile with rotating flames coming out of the afterburner(?)-thingy. Kids would love that!:pir-love:

Maybe someone will some day make a alternative battery with higher voltage and that way make the motors faster..

I think whats more likely is that the buwizz team will swap their motors in, but time will tell.

Big IF the electronics can take a higher voltage...

Why not entirely gut its electronics, and install the internal hardware of a Buwizz and some PF/PU motors in there?
