LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 (edited) Hello everyone, today I want to present this new freight train consisting of the DB 232-254-3 alias "Ludmilla" and 6 wagons for the transport of prefabricated concrete beams. The train comes from Bluebrixx to which I made modifications on the baseplate, I added the lights and the motorization (performed with two 14500 lithium batteries). For the wagons (again always from Bluebrixx), two of the four anchor points were removed so that the concrete beam can slide during curves and allow the wagons to be correctly attached. Here you can find a video and some more pictures of the convoy. See you with next project... Edited April 28, 2024 by LEGO Train 12 Volts Quote
zephyr1934 Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 You did an excellent job capturing the difficult angles of this not quite square prototype. I also like the look of the beam cars Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted April 28, 2024 Author Posted April 28, 2024 I'm not the author, it's a model produced by Bluebrixx 4 hours ago, zephyr1934 said: I also like the look of the beam cars Thanks, I think it's a nice combination! Quote

These are really cool. Congratulations again, Emanuele, and again well deserved! I'd love to see some pictures of your soldering - I don't know anyone who does that that accurately. How do you turn on the lights? By switch or per PF remote? All the best, Thorsten Quote
Ropefish Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Oh wow this is lovely! Bluebixx feels like they are the only company really doing train stuff funnily enough, quality bricks to! Quote

What can I add to so much (and welcome) goodwill? What you say is correct: I added the motorization by rearranging where to put the PF receiver and the batteries. I proceeded to drill some pieces to fit the 3 mm LEDs into the plates (once upon a time I limited myself to drilling the bricks for the 5 mm LEDs) in what an ever-evolving world we live in? As for the welding, I don't have any photos, because I find them uninteresting but I certainly improved my skills by using heat-shrinkable cable ties which I didn't use until 8 years ago. I preferably turn on the lights with a separate switch (so as not to occupy the already limited PF control channels) and using a circuit powered by an independent battery (so as not to remove energy from the engine)... there are obviously exceptions, especially if the models are small. All the best Emanuele 21 hours ago, Ropefish said: Bluebixx feels like they are the only company really doing train stuff funnily enough, quality bricks to! What I like is that they have a train department that expands year after year, with a number of models that would make Marklin pale. For me it's a source of comparison and inspiration (sadly more than the official Lego catalogue). Quote

BillytheKid Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Nice big train that is. Only at 12v it will cause some problems with switches and passing eachother in curves. Quote
Man with a hat Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Well done. The shape looks spot on. And also in 6-wide it still looks well proportioned, Quote
ivanlan9 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 If only BlueBrixx had a distribution center in the US, I'd be buying a ton of their stuff. As it is, the shipping puts it out of the reach most of the time, and I would really prefer to know that what I order is going to have good bricks. Although I might stay away from their older stuff, as some of the kits had parts that just didn't fit. For instance, I got the ES44AC in six-wide, and it was decent all the way through--but the trucks ("bogies") won't stay on. That's a significant bummer. The big locomotive shop building, however, had no flaws that I could find. Can't recommend it enough. Quote
