thekoRngear Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Apparently with electronics this thing can carry/haul Technic Beasts like Cat Liebherr 9800 and such. It seems it is kinda/sorta the Car Transporter's spiritual successor 😄 https://www.facebook.com/share/p/byDznfqhpCEPo6gb/?mibextid=oFDknk (Gotta be a group member to watch rhe videos) Quote

M_longer Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I can't decide what's the bigger joke in 42175; That electric battery container, or that it took the budget for making the excavator work properly. Quote

Well, at least the excavator can interact with it. So, there's that. Quote
Timorzelorzworz Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Lovely set, even better with alt-build from it Quote

Zerobricks Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 Brilliant use of track links for steps! Quote
Timorzelorzworz Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 @Zerobricksthis technique works surprisingly well Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 This image is a lie. The excavator cannot lift the power unit. So, the chains, and the hooks on the boom, are pretty much useless. Quote

Maaboo the Witch Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 26 minutes ago, Ngoc Nguyen said: Why cant it Because the boom can't support the weight of the unit. It's not strong enough to lift it either. I tried lifting the boom to the position shown and then hooking up the unit, and the boom couldn't hold it up. Quote
Timorzelorzworz Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 We finally finished one B-model for the Volvo set discussed on this topic. Quote

Lego pneumatics are usually pretty good at lifting stuff Quote

Timorzelorzworz Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) Thanks for that cool video! It shows all the glory of this set in just few seconds. People sometimes forget that the set is made for a 10+ kids audience, and therefore it is really great. Kids have alot of fun building and playing with it for hours. One of the best playable set for ages. I built this set not yet, but this video makes me want to do. Edited August 31, 2024 by Timorzelorzworz Quote
mpj Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 I have adjusted excavator proportions and added third pneumatic function to control the bucket independently. Instructions available here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-194449/technicprojects/volvo-ec230-electric-excavator-42175-mod/#details Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted September 26, 2024 Author Posted September 26, 2024 Hi everyone, this is a short from RacingBrick https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Y3OR-q4RYi8 Quote
anyUser Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I've modified the box thing. It can fit a two-pump compressor and an air tank. Operation ist from the outside using a crank: For coupling the tube to the excavator I am using a modified version of this part: I used a small drill to open up in the middle. Quote

This is a really great mod which begs the question: Why didn't TLG do it like this in the first place... (Yeah, I know they have discontinued the air thank, which is a shame...) Quote

Just finished the model normally then rebuild it with your mod, which represents the original excavator way better. Only small critique would be the slag on the tracks, but other than that, this boosts the look so much, great work! Was really pleased with the 42175 as a whole combination, especially the truck. (Yeah, I know they have discontinued the air thank, which is a shame...) Probably because pneumatics are expensive elements and trying to avoid/limit them in sets as much as possible. This external box is not supposed to represent a generator with hydraulic accumulator but the electric battery needed to charge such an excavator over night. Quote

Thanks for your feedback, what so you mean with "slag on the tracks"? Quote
