johnnytifosi Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 They didn't even need to introduce a new part, there have been plenty of wide buckets in the past already. Deeply disappointing. Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 It's an incredibly hacky solution, and one that could have easily been avoided. Quote
XTN Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I agree with every single statement already made here. On first sight I thought the only interesting parts are the narrow truck wheels and the bucket - now the bucket(s) disqualified itself. Well, mb the two buckets are a great opportunity for MOCers? Nonetheless, I think this is an awesome starter set with great playability and a lot of functions. It looks fine even without applied stickers and it works fine without needing an app to play with it - a bunch of arguments that are often mentioned in this forum. I like this set for what it is. Good job, TLG! Quote
Timewhatistime Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Maybe the two small buckets are needed for the ingenious b-model which we will have the honour to be provided with by TLG. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 1, 2024 Author Posted May 1, 2024 I can't even think of any kind of model or playset that would use TWO buckets... Quote

Well, not just two, but four buckets were used in 7707. Yeah, it wasn't based on real life machinery.. but the use of two buckets can mean two separate models. Edited May 1, 2024 by Jockos Quote

If that was the case I would be willing to ignore many drawbacks. But when Lego has the balls to demand 200 bucks for a kilo or two of plastic with no reusability, they have to deliver perfection. While the set looks fine art first glance, deeper inspection unveils a lot of flaws. Both the truck and the trailer look really barebones, and the term "poverty spec Arocs" mentioned above fits like a glove. I'll hold any further judgment until the first reviews show up. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 1, 2024 Author Posted May 1, 2024 The tractor truck isn't just "poverty spec Arocs", it's "porverty specs Arocs B model". And from the look of it, there's no differential, drivetrain, fake engine, or tilting cab. Quote

There wouldn't be space for a 6 straight engine. Quote
SNIPE Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Nice little set, idk if the cabin can flip up like the arocs, but if theres no engine under it (shame if not) then i guess it doesnt need to flip up that much. Also a 5th wheel for the first time in a technic model that is actually on a linkage to open/lock it. Also liking the use of the narrow tyres for the first time in a technic set, and how they're doubled up. Doesnt the excavator have a 3 piece boom, yet somehow only has 2 cylinders? Trouble is aside from the tyres on the trailer and the wheels used for the fuel tank, I can build this from my own parts, but we'll see when the parts inventory is released... Quote
RNRS001 Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I had some hope this would be in a similar schale of the Mack container truck and the large towtruck. This however... meh. The truck doesn't look like a Volvo, lacks functionality, the trailer sits too high on the rear axle and as for its load... yawn. Then again, this is LEGO. Would I want it to look better, I could do so myself. I do think however the set itself should look great right from the start. This doesn't. It's a pass from me. Quote

Yup it´s like a combo of a couple of those smaller Alfred Pedersen designed sets from the early 2010s but with a 2024 price tag. Not my cup of tea and it seems that those of us who want technical Technic sets need to go to the Chinese models as Lego no longer caters for that publis. Quote
heyitsdisty Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Am I seeing an old-style turntable on the excavator? The teeth look smaller than the current version. Quote

It's 41531 fan housing on the left, and 68869 rounded 4x4 tile on the right, no? Bar 6L with stop ring in orange (behind the cab) is a new colour, I haven't spotted anything else unique to this set. MCD Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 As a builder and instruction creator of various Volvo trucks, including the FMX i was always keen to see this. Yes, it look light, in some ways incomplete and i think using printed clear panels for headlights is a cheat. But there is no denying, the set has a really good Volvo OEM look. For many who are not so keen on buying mocs, or modding, this is the first great access in this scale to a genuine European truck. Until now, car transporter, concrete mixer etc are made up! American focus has clearly been seen in the Mack Anthem and to a good extent, the recovery truck. So its a good thing, i also think some of the panelling and sculpting on the cab is good...it looks ok! For me personally i like to design my own now. So not sure id buy this just to build and improve.. i certainly see no value in the trailer... I like it though, better than expected and equally dumbed down as expected.... Maybe its got some C model potential? But wheels combo is limited.. Quote

Rebel_Lego Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 I don't think it is a double bucket: In the first pic it seems to me the slot in the middle isn't running all the way down (see red circle) and in the second pic I can't see a gap at all. The attachment of the bucket also indicates one piece. Quote

dhc6twinotter Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 (edited) Not a bad set. My biggest complaint is the lack of a third pneumatic cylinder for the bucket. That kinda ruins it for me. The hose routing looks terrible too. The truck looks pretty decent given its size, and I like that they put dual rear wheels on it. A fake engine would’ve been nice to see. I would’ve liked the set a lot more if they didn’t have the large “battery” and instead used the pieces for a more complete excavator and/or a proper tipper truck with drawbar trailer. Overall, I’d give the set a B grade. Edited May 1, 2024 by dhc6twinotter Quote

The middle clearly has a wall and the slot not running all the way down is just that protrusion the buckets have on both sides. Here is a rendering from the same angle in case you still don't believe what everyone is saying: Quote
Rebel_Lego Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Then I stand corrected and I'm gonna cry myself to sleep because I'm so dissapointed in Lego Quote
