May the 4th be with you. Welcome to Eurobrick's annual Star Wars contest!
There are many ways to participate, and lots of ways to win! Four different categories, multiple prizes, and a chance to participate in our role-playing Star Wars game Mysteries are all part of the fun this year.

General Rules
The contest runs May 1st through July 1st. As long as it's still July 1st, 2024 somewhere in the world, you can still enter.
All entries must be new builds not shown online or publicly before May 1st, 2024.
Only official LEGO elements should be used. Avoid third party parts or clone bricks. Digital entries will be allowed. All digital entries must use only existing pieces in existing colors.

Entries may be updated as long as the contest is still open.
All entries must be posted as a new topic in the Watto’s Junkyard forum with the title prefixed by, "[M4-24 - category] - entry name". (For example, "[M4-24 - 12x12 Vignette] – Sarlacc Pit".)
You may do a 'full-blown photo edit' with all the text, effects, background compositing, support erasing, and other effects on one picture. All your other pictures may have no editing other than color adjustment or background removal for a solid-color background. For obvious reasons, any photo editing that changes the shape, functionality, or color (not tint or adjustment, but actual color) of a LEGO piece is prohibited. It is also prohibited to use the Lego logo in any picture.
Size restrictions, if applicable, are specified in the category description.
A link should be included in this thread to ensure your entry is counted.
This contest is open to all EB members, even if they joined EB after the contest has begun, with the exception of the Star Wars staff, who are not eligible to win prizes.
Each contestant can only win 1 prize, if multiple categories are won by the same contestant, he/she chooses which prize to receive and the other prizes will be awarded to the runner ups.

You can use this stamp on your photos if you'd like:

All entries can also by submitted to our Mysteries game. Any entry submitted to both this contest and Mysteries will earn double points within the Mysteries game. Come check it out!

Categories
Duel of the Fates

Good vs Evil, Rebels vs Empire, Jedi vs Sith; there are countless duels between two groups in Star Wars. Build at least 4 (but no more than 8) custom minifigures depicting a conflict between two parties. You may use groups seen in any Star Wars media or create your own as long as it fits in the Star Wars universe. Side builds may accompany your minifigures but you may use no more than 100 pieces. Pieces used to kit out your minifigures and the figures themselves don't count against the 100 piece limit.

Example:
800x514.JPG

Sabine's Paint
A lot of Star Wars ships are grey. But as Sabine showed us they don't always have to stay that way. Build an example of an existing Star Wars ship that is colorful! Your ship must already exist within Star Wars media and at least 50% must be a bright color. Your ship must be a spaceship capable of flight in a vacuum. It can be any spaceship of any size from a TIE Fighter to a Star Destroyer. Any color is acceptable as long as it's not grey-scale. So no greys, whites or blacks. You can pick a ship that's already colorful and build it or change it's color. But the idea is to pick a bland ship and make it colorful.

An extra note for judging, it can be hard to score points in Storytelling for the ship category. Think about including battle damage or other elements that tell a story as soon as you look at the ship.

Example:
Here is an example of an existing SW ship with color, though for this category it would need more color and less grey:

HWK-290

Built by J F

Here's an example of a ship with a lot of color, though it's not an existing SW ship:

Fall Colors

Built by Finn Roberts

The Phantom Menace
Re-create a scene from Star Wars Episode 1. Any size or scale is acceptable.

Example:

Lego Moc: Mos Espa Vignette

Built by Alper I

Queen Amidala

Built by AC Pin

Coruscant
From the rich high-rises to the dark underbelly, Coruscant is full of different places. Build a scene showcasing one or more of these. There is no size limit, go as big as you want!

Example:

Star Wars Coruscant Underworld

Built by Hypolite Bricks

Woohoo! I’ve been looking forward to the return of this contest!

One question: For the Sabine’s Paint category, does it have to be a spaceship or can it also be a walker, landspeeder, space station, etc.?

Posted

Awesome, I was looking forward for this contest to start. I think, it's a nice selection of challenges!

Two small questions regarding the ship category: is there a size minimum/maximum like only one pilot or no more than five passengers? And regarding the colour scheme, do I have to search for colourful ships within the star wars universe or is a new colour for an existing ship possible too. Something like a red millennium falcon for example?

Great questions, I'll update the category with my responses here. But it does have to be a spaceship capable of flight in a vacuum. It sounds exciting! I'll try to get in if I overcome laziness (and final exams ).
I have something in mind to enter and I have a question: could one entry count towards two categories? For example if I make a ship and a Coruscant scene. Or would it be better to enter separately with the ship (featuring only the ship) and the scene (including the ship in the scene)?

It would be better for you to keep the entries separate. You'd be welcome to include a shot with both combined. But there should be a shot of just the ship and a shot of just the Coruscant scene for judging purposes.

Ok, thanks. Good to know.

Question for sabines catagory:

you say no greyscale, no greys whites or blacks.

is that a blanket ban on those three? or can there be VERY minimal use of the colour for mechanical detailing/weathering/damage?

50% or more of the ship needs to be a bright color. The other 50% or less can be grey, white or black.

Woohoo! It's back! A good selection too- I was wondering where we were going to go with the ship after the imperial ship and rebel-wing, but wasn't considering Sabine's ship stylings, that's a wonderful choice. Already got plenty of ideas, can't wait to start on this.

Sorry to be a pain, but one other thing relating to the above.

the ship i have in mind IS capable of flight in a vacuum...... when it is not in the state of disrepair i have in mind for my moc.
does the moc qualify if the ship is capable ON PAPER just not in the scene depicted

Ask all the questions you want, not a problem. If you build a derelict, decrepit, or crashed ship (like an X-Wing) that is normally capable of flying in space then you're good to go.

Well in that case!

duel of the fates.

At first glance, the two parties look obvious, rebels and empire.

The conflict is actually arising between a mix of rebels/imperials, and another group of the same.

provided my description explains the nature of the divide, is that fine?

What you've described sounds fine

For Duel of the Fates, how generous are we being with that 100 part count not including parts to "kit out your figures?"

For instance, I'm planning on doing a duel similar to how force master battles were described in the Thrawn Trilogy- these massive shows of whirling energy. Would a brick construct for a blast of energy or lightning coming out of the figure's hand not count towards the 100 parts? Would a swirl of energy around the figure's feet count, or transparent parts to launch them into the sky?

I'm assuming Yes, No, and No respectively, but I figure I should ask to make sure.

Great idea for a contest! I'm really looking forward to getting my building on. I'm wondering though, because entries for the contest must be new builds, would a recolor of an existing build for the Sabine's Paint category count as a new build? I ask because I have designed MOCs of various Star Wars spacecraft and uploaded them to this site in the past, and I would keep the design from those MOCs, but only change the colors. Is that allowed or does the design of the ship have to be brand new?

no third party lighting i assume, lego light bricks only?

i ask because it looks like the coruscant example has third party lighting

Re-building an existing MOC in a new color would technically be allowed. But I encourage you to come up with something new.

Good catch. Yes, only Lego elements are allowed. The 3rd party lighting is just in the example and not evidence of an exception to the rule.

No rush, but if you've got the answer to this one, I'd be able to get my first submission in!

Hmm, that's a tricky one. Sorry I missed it before. It'll depend on how many pieces you use for the force effects. But you're correct with the Yes, No, No answers. Parts around the feet or trans clear parts to levitate a fig count towards the 100 parts. Parts connected to the hands, as long as it's not excessive, don't count towards the limit. If you're worried, send me a PM with a picture first.

im trying to get the most out of the 100 part limit for duel of the fates and I will use every single element available to me lol

Yes, stickers from any Lego set are permitted and don't count as one of the 100 parts for the limit.

Two questions.

1. Are prizes shipped internationally, or just to European nations? Sorry if this is a dumb question. :sceptic:

2. The Coruscant category sounds vague to me. Does it have to depict a wealthy area, or seedy underbelly? Or can it be anywhere on the planet? Can there be a battle going on in the scene?

Thank you!

Not dumb at all!

1) Set prizes are shipped anywhere Lego ships sets. TLG sponsors those prizes for us. The smaller, polybag sets are shipped anywhere on earth as they come from my personal collection. As long as I can find the address at my post office I can ship it there.

2) It's an open ended category. So you can build any of those locations you mentioned and they would all fit.
