For years this minifigure was simply known as “The Merchant” who came sailing into the Imperial Trading Post onboard “The Cutter” and then later, mysteriously appeared among Captain Redbeard’s crew on the Skulls Eye Schooner.

Steve's adventures have never been published in official media like catalogues, box stories or magazines so we know little of his backstory – let’s change that!

Where does Steve come from?  Are there more merchants who use the same insignia on their flags and sails? Do these merchant also have ships? 
Larger ships than Steve?

 

How did Steve find himself onboard the Skulls Eye Schooner? And why has The Cutter been commandeered by Soldiers at the newly renovated Eldoardo Fortress?

Has Steve's adventures taken him to Distant Waters? Perhaps he was kidnapped by Barbary Corsairs and rescued by pirates of the South China Sea. Or maybe he's stayed in the Caribbean the entire time.

Including the Steve minifigure is NOT mandatory, nor is including The Cutter ship.

Steve can depicted at any age, wearing any clothes… on any ship or location around the world… maybe when he’s older he has a grey beard… or no beard at all…

Your Entry could also be focused on a supporting character or without any minifigures at all!

For example; a mini build, a maxi figure, a mosaic portrait, etc.

How to Enter
You will need a Eurobricks account to enter this contest.

First build a MOC meeting the criteria of the briefing.

Create a topic in the Pirate MOC Forum using the prefix [ENTRY] then [SMALL] OR [LARGE] AND then the name of your creation in the Topic Title.

For example:
"[ENTRY][SMALL] Steve escapes the Portuguese Caravel"

Inside that topic post as many images and supporting information as possible.

Be sure to check back regularly and reply to anyone who posts in your topic.

Remember, the more activity your entry topics receive, the longer they stay at the top of the forum and more likely to be seen!

FAQ: Building Categories

Do my entries have be pirate themed?

Yes, but they may depict pirates from any part of the world providing the time frame is around the 16th-17th centuries. 

Steve is not a time traveler nor can he teleport to other dimensions.  He is also saving his encounters with pirates from popular culture for a future contest.

You may use relevant parts from other themes, but no entries focused on Castle/medieval, Vikings, Adventurers, steampunk, modern pirates, space pirates, etc. or even cross-overs.

How do I post images in the LEGO Pirates Forum/Eurobricks?

We recommended hosting your images externally and linking them in your Entry Topics.

Popular image hosting platforms among AFOL builders include:

• Flickr
• Brickshelf
• Imgur
• Bricksafe
• ImageShack

If you require further assistance, please contact Eurobricks staff.
 

Can I update my entry after it's been posted?
Yes.

In fact, you may wish to action feedback provided by Creative Critics to improve your entry further.
 

Can I include a story along with my Entries?
Yes.

Feel free to include a description or short story to explain what's happening in your MOC.

But don't make it too long because you're being judged on your building creativity, not the story.

Can I share my entries on social media?
Yes.

Remember to link to your Entry Topics -  the more people you can attract to your entry, the more votes you're likely to get.

But remember, Votes and Replies only count if they're submitted to the Entry Topic posted in the LEGO Pirates Forum.

Also, be sure not to violate the spam policy or appropriate conduct policy of any social platforms you share your links.
 

Can I build digitally?
Yes. Your entries can be designed in CAD software like Bricklink Studio or physically built using real LEGO.

Just ensure your renders are well presented with clear, high resolution images.

However, AI generated LEGO creations are not permitted.

 

Do minfigures and their accessories contribute to the piece count?
No.

 

What's the Piece Count for the Small Category?
Minimum of 25 Pieces and a maximum of 200 Pieces.

 

What's the Piece Count for the Large Category?
Minimum of 201 Pieces but no maximum - so go crazy!

 

Can I Enter the same Creation into both the Small and Large Categories?
No.

Your Small and Large Building Entries must be entirely different builds.

For example:
If you enter a 200 Piece build into the Small Building Category, you won't be able to enter it into the Large Building Category by simply adding a few more pieces.

Can I make my own custom elements like sails, flags, torso designs, etc.?
Yes.

Can I  use non-authentic LEGO components?
Since the contest prizes are provided by The LEGO Group ye best avoid counterfeit products!

Can I enter in both Small and Large Categories?
Yes.

• Providing your Submissions meet the criteria for each Building Category.
• They are not different versions of the same build with the Piece Count adjusted to suit the Category.

Can I submit multiple Building Entries?
Yes, however:

• There is a limit of 3 Building Entries per Category (maximum of 6 Building Entries for the entire contest)
• You'll need to create a separate topic for each of entry.

Can I submit an Entry on behalf a my children?
Yes.

But this will contribute to your 3 entries per Category limit.

Can I enter creations I've already built?
No.

You will be disqualified if we find evidence your of entry's prior existence.

 

Can I submit Entries before June 15?
No. You can certainly start building your Entries prior to that date but please don't submit them before.

 

Can I submit Entries after August 18?
No. Entries close August 18 and Voting/Nominating begins August 19.

 

Can I submit a minifgure or parts pack?
No. The emphasis is on creating a new design.
 

Can I submit a micro build?
Yes. 

Does my Entry need to look like an official LEGO set?
No. You may adopt your preferred building style.

Can I submit a Duplo, Technic, 4+/, Friends, etc. build?
Yes.  If you think you can compete using Duplo or Friends against regular entries, then good luck to ye!

Can I win two or more Prizes?

• You may only win one Prize in each Building Category.
• There is no limit to how many Participation Prizes you may min.

How will the Winners be selected?
Please read the Building Category Voting Rules.

Can I also enter the Creative Critic category?
Yes. Please read the Creative Critic information - how the winner is determined has substantially changed.

Excellent, I can use the 4Juniors Pirates legally this time!

Not sure if I'll be able to build something for this contest.  I would like to to, but my free time is limited, and energy to build is almost non existent these days. and I have many other projects on the go. but we shall see. I'll try to squeeze something in.

Not sure about that strict time-frame, as Steve uses 18 century and late 18/ early19 century hats even in Your welcome post  And Soldiers in Lego Pirate world use napoleonic shakos and uniforms. But i guess we all know that, and maybe a gremlin typed wrong era into the first sentence?  So if we could maybe clear it up, to avoid confusion. I mean Lego Pirates is clearly set somewhere in the fairytailish version of pirates Golden Age, with elements from other eras used as well, and i guess it wont be a problem for Builders to stick with those centuries and no one will introduce American Revolution or any later napoleonic/victiorian/belle epoque/wild west elements... still, wanted to be sure if we can actually use those classic 18/19 century elements, even if they are in the wrong time period Cause maybe they are banned for the duration of Steve's Contest and we may use only proper 16-17 century elements

For example I have only posted 2 times but I have 30 different replies and such. I would love if this could be clarified.

I love this contest so much, well done to @Mister Phes and moderators thank you for organizing this and bringing Pirates theme into the light again. I missed last year's contest for the mini build entry, I shelved the project I was designing, I think it's time to bring it back and hopefully help spark more Pirates fans . The project is nothing big in terms of scale but it has a pirate's heart!   Without spoiling or giving any clues, all I can say is that the sets have the same level of detail and execution as I did for the Adventurers theme

Your Adventurers creations from last year were phenomenal!  When I first saw them appear in Google Image Search, I immediately assumed an official Adventurers set was being re-released.

Only after I did a little research, I discovered they were MOCs - that's how outstanding the presentation was!

I may be able to swing a large entry. I realize I need to build some new set pieces for my Pirate webcomic, so I could kill two pirates with one cannon ball, if I get it done in time. I just need to sort, clean up my table, and maybe buy some more baseplates. Then find some time and energy to build!

You could aim for a small entry but if it ends up more than 200 pieces you can submit it as a large entry.

I made what I want to, now I need to figure out shooting it. My question is this: what happens if I don’t know the part count? I build freehand and never keep track of part counts. Not sure if people still build this way (I know a lot don’t).

 

My build is kinda on the border, it’s medium sized. Worst case, I’ll count the parts manually. Can’t there be some kind of dimensional restriction?
