My question is this: what happens if I don’t know the part count? I build freehand and never keep track of part counts. Not sure if people still build this way (I know a lot don’t). My build is kinda on the border, it’s medium sized. Worst case, I’ll count the parts manually. Can’t there be some kind of dimensional restriction? You could count the parts when you take it apart after taking pictures. In case you take it apart that is. Quote

It's not a strict part count; more of loose guide to decide whether they're aiming for a Large or Small entry. So just an approximation will do. But most importantly, does it look like a Large or Small entry? Quote

(To paraphrase Pirates of the Caribbean) Honest to god, it’s medium sized. I’d put it at a 16x16 stud footprint and say 20 bricks high? About the size of one of the half size Modulars (pet shop, library) I am pretty sure I’ve crossed the 200 mark though. Edited June 19, 2024 by Samarth Quote

BrynnOfCastlegate Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 I see the first to 25 challenges have begun! I wanted to clarify the rules about replies to a topic. The topic author's posts do not count, but all others posted after the start time do; so, multiple posts by the same person count separately as long as they are not consecutive, correct? That is to say, it doesn't have to be replies by 25 different people, but a total of 25 posts some of which may be by the same people posting multiple, non-consecutive posts. Is that right? Quote

Is that right? That is absolutely right! The reason is; we don't anyone influencing which Builder wins by making consecutive posts in their Entry topic. Instead, there has to be interaction with other participants to reach the 25 posts. Quote
Math Wizard Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 (edited) Can you clarify what "double posting" is when going for the 1st to 25 competition? Does it mean 2 consecutive posts don't count, or only 1 post per entry counts? Edited June 22, 2024 by Math Wizard Quote

Does it mean 2 consecutive posts don't count, or only 1 post per entry counts? It means 2 (or more) consecutive posts in the same topic. And "consecutive" is defined as: one post immediately following another post by the same author. This is to prevent someone from posting 25 consecutive posts in the same Building Entry Topic. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I was just about to enter this contest, I have a fun back story and everything for Steve. But then I saw it HAS to be a new build, so I would get disqualified... Boo. Oh well, here is my Steve story. Pirate Steve is now known as Merchant Steve. He is the leader of the Merchant's Guild. He has set up his headquarters in Port Royal. From there he oversees all trade. All trade and commerce has to be approved by Steve, or it can be deemed illegal. You can find Steve at his usual post, where he either approves or denys the requests of his fellow merchants. Quote

Boo Is there a way you can modify this especially for the contest? Maybe add a few more details to it. For example: build a new ship around 200 pieces and submit the ship as the Entry, then the existing build can be used as the background. Quote

TBH this is the kind of entry I’ve personally been hoping to see but no one has delivered yet lol. Just a nice MOC depicting this mysterious trading faction, and perhaps a large shop from which he (they?) trade. Something akin to the blacksmith set or old fishing store but for a seafaring merchant. Actually the old fishing store would work great as a starting point for a MOC like the kind I’m talking about. hmm, maybe I should do a second entry! Quote

Actually the old fishing store would work great as a starting point for a MOC like the kind I’m talking about. hmm, maybe I should do a second entry! I don't usually do habitat or smaller style MOCS usually. I mean I COULD... I just don't really think about them tbh. For what I posted here, this is from my Port Royal MOC that I created for my Pirates display. I tend to spend an insane amount of time figuring out the lives of minifigs in my displays, especially for the more important minifigs, which of course Steve fits that bill. For Steve, I knew I wanted him to be the leader of the Merchant's faction (because who else would be better?) Things have to make sense in my mind, in order for them to be in the display. I try to make it like it's living breathing Pirate world. So all the people need to have a story, lol. Steve is just one of many I have stories about, lol. Good thing this contest isn't about Governor Broadside... That poor guy isn't governor anymore in my world, lol. The biggest problem with display building is you eventually run out of space. So sometimes I have more ideas than I have tangable space for everything within the display. When I build things, they stay together and are added to the display. So for Steve, building a proper structure wasn't tangable at that time. So I decided to go with a tent like stand instead. I literally copied the same stand from the Medieval Market Village set, but built it from pieces I had in my collection. From there, I just had to find a nice spot in Port Royal to place Steve's stand. Then just dress up the surroundings. Quote

Did you miss my earlier suggestion? Which was: build a new ship around 200 pieces or less and submit the ship as the Entry, then your existing build/display can be used as the background. It doesn't have to a big entry. You could even build a 25 piece boat if you're really that limited on space. I.e. then the new ship can sit within your existing display and barely consume additional space. It could even be a modded Merchant Cutter. I assume you have both the original 6276 Imperial Trading Post version and 10320 the Eldorado Fortress versions. Quote

Samarth Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Now that the contest is actually over… I must say this: I really wish someone built a proper base/headquarter for the merchant guild. Or even a guild marketplace. I got working on this idea but didn’t make the deadline. And I really wish someone would have done a modern interpretation of a Europa theme build (the unreleased theme that had more Steve minifigs in it). Although maybe @CaptainDarkNStormy ‘s entry somewhat fits this criteria. And hats off to @Mister Phes for running the show! Quote
