I was inspired by Overwatch set 75972 (Dorado Showdown) to create this modular small town auto repair shop with 1950s tow truck. I call the building Smokeys Garage. The building features a raised platform for cars to roll onto and be worked on, with folding ramps to keep the broken-down vehicle (in this case a dark blue Ford Anglia set 75953 MOD) in place.

The front of the building. I've been working on this tow truck and building on and off basically since the Overwatch theme released in 2019.

The rear of the building featuring a few empty oil barrels and some old engines.

The main floor of the building, with the ramps lowered for receiving a broken-down car. Several types of tools hang from the walls.

Upstairs on the second floor is the employee break room.

The eight wide hover-truck from Overwatch set 75972 has been turned into a 6-studs wide 1950's-style tow truck.

Rear of the truck. The hook is too high off the ground to actually pull anything...

The cab roof is removable to seat the driver behind the wheel.

This 1960s car is a heavily modified version of the Ford Anglia in the 2018 Harry Potter set 75953 - Hogwarts Whomping Willow, remade into dark blue. It has broken down, and is being worked on at Smokeys Garage. (my most recent modular building)

The rear of the Anglia. The car has an opening trunk and cabin doors, and also seats one figure.

EDITED 8/14/24: So, it's taken quite a while, but it's finally done! Enjoy the MOC!

Thanks to whichever Moderator front paged my MOC! It's always such a high honor to be seen there!

That's a nice garage! It really has this 1950s small town feeling to it. I like that very much! I also like how you build the front of the truck  Looking forward to see the garage build in real life.

Very nice. I'd change the truck to a Dually, meaning it has dual rear wheels on either side, so it looks more heavy duty (and fits with its purpose).

Looking forward to seeing the finished build.

Are you planning to put the 2x4 tile from set 10743 in the build somewhere? Would go great!

Thanks! A 1950s feel was my intent @Yperio_Bricks!

I'll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion @yohai71.

You are correct @Lemerbrix! I actually have a few other CARS 3 printed parts I'm gonna use as well.... but exactly which ones are a secret.

Update:

I've gotten a little further on my garage modular building without ordering anything. The parts list has been gone through, and it's only gonna cost a hair under $50 (before S&H, off course!) to finish this MOC when i get around to it.

Update 8/5/24:

53903717208_1517494b71_z.jpg

This garage modular building MOC isn't quite done yet because of two printed 2x4 tile parts that are part of the sign. While waiting for a chance to order these rarer parts, I decided to take this teaser picture.

The rest of the model will be shown off when it is finished.

(@Yperio_Bricks @Lemerbrix @yohai71 I've tagged you since you commented before on this thread and I thought you'd like to see the finished MOC!)

So, it's taken quite a while, but it's finally done! The entire first post has been changed around with new text and lots of new pictures.

I hope everyone likes it!

Thanks for tagging, it's hard to keep up with everything!

I like the garage very much! The blue and white color scheme works great and the yellowed bricks add some variety. I also like that the garage door and windows share the same style. The garage sign looks great too!

My only nitpick would be the roof. It looks a bit plain. Maybe some antennas, a hatch for roof access or something like that could help to break up the grey area? Maybe even an AC unit?

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, the roof needs something. An AC unit wouldn't work though, because it wouldn't fit the timeframe.... not many businesses really had AC in the 1950s, and many car repair shops today still don't! (my brother was a auto mechanic at a Ford dealer, and it wasn't heated or cooled in the shop - and it was brand-new building) Roof access is also impossible, as the roof is two plates thick to support it's odd-sized plates so, short of a total redesign, it isn't gonna work.

I'll have to think about what I could put up there, but thanks for the suggestions @Yperio_Bricks!

Good build. The window sashes are a nice design. As for the roof, a quick search of images from the 1950s shows many American gas stations having barren roofs. The lack of a wall around the roof also makes it hard to justify anything on it. While it's not spectacular, it is period. Maybe a TV antenna with a birds nest on it?

Thanks @Feuer Zug, glad you like it!

Yep  Just something to break up the barren roof. Or raise the white border by one plate and then tile the whole roof? But as i have said, it's just a little nitpick.

I really like this 1950s small town style of the building.
