[MOC] & [MOD] Classic Space vehicles modernized

When I saw the New Galaxy Explorer 10497 and the alternative builds, I started imagining all the old sets modernized. I started with crafts once I understood the technic and I searched long time to find my own building style as there is no such thing.

Here, I'd like to show you my modernized vehicles, in the style of the buggy from the new Galaxy Explorer. I only have one concern about this official buggy: they forgot the antenna >< lol

Here is my version of 6823 Surface Transport :-)

Here is my version of the tank buggy from the 483/920 Rocket Base

 

I used it in my X1 Patrol Base, here I display it with the original minifigs colors

I think I've said it before, but I really love your aesthetic in reimagining the old designs. Just great!

Great work as usual, that tank cart is perfect, definitely my favorite of these builds but they're all excellent!

Here is another one: the 889 Radar Truck. Even if I don't know why they called it "truck" but nevermind, it's now a buggy ^^

 

 

The half round tile don't exist, I put the 2*2 tile design on it to make a remote radar monitoring.

I tried countless versions, it's my favorite now. I guess...

Love the 'upgrade' of those old(er) vehicles. They certainly have no-nonsense feel to them.

I'm almost sorry your custom rsdar tile doesn't exist. It fits the situation so well.

Two new: the easy 886 with very few mods. That's the buggy from 10497, the base of everything 

And a tricky one, the Space Scooter 6801. Tricky because it's actually flying, and second because I didn't liked it that much, it looked weird to me with that dish, and I never saw any inspiring MOC. Two days ago, I had an idea: to remove that dish! I'm not sure it's working, but I kinda like it like that :-)

 

Don't u think it gives a sort of horseshoe crab look? ><

Your reimagined Classic Space sets are incredible MonkeyJay!  I find myself trying to build them with my spare parts this morning, based on the pictures.  I was wondering if you ever considered posting parts lists or instructions on Rebrickable?  With LEGO's not having reimagined sets this year...I'd love to focus on building your sets instead!  You have real talent at capturing the feel of the new Galaxy Explorer building style!

I intend to put most of my MOCs on rebrickable for free. I don't have bricks, I can't build anything, and I would love that people love them and make them for real!

Limitation is that I sometimes use parts that don't exist. Hopefully not on the small vehicles, but I lack of time to do all I planned....

Thanks so much for your kindness MonkeyJay!  I'm currently trying to figure out the lower portion of your Surface Transport...what parts are used around the wheel assembly (essentially...the lower foundation of the build...below the 2 part hinge piece).  If you have any other pics laying around, would be very grateful!

Again...thanks for sharing your talent with these MOCS...and excited to see what you come up with next!

I like this new interpretation. Although I always imagined the dish as a kind of repulsor, to lift the craft from the surface, maybe by means of gravitational waves, just ditching it and creating a roundish shape with modern parts, works well too.

I wondered about that dish. I didn't thought about anti-G because there are no such things in any other Classic Space. And with the black parts under, it's not a thruster either. So I just assumed it's a one-part hull shape.

I would assume differently for the small "dish flyer" from 6930 supply station 🤔

I guess the "it's Lego so we can use our imagination to make it anything we want" applies to interpreting the function of the dish. Looking at how much of the underside of the dish is covered, I guess it being a wing/hull part does seem more likely

I am actually rebuilding many of my old sets right now. Digging through all the parts and looking for online building instruction. Fun to see this new approach to old stuff. Will definitly try something like this too. Fun to remake some of the old bases too. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love the forklift, but am I right in thinking that neither the fork part or the hinged piece that takes the fork are truly available in light bluish gray? :(

Do you regularly use parts in colors that aren't really available in your other designs? Just curious.

Yes unfortunately it's an old part and not available in light bluish grey. That's often the problem when making new Classic Space :/

When possible, I'm trying to make design with only available parts so I'll put them en rebrickable for people to actually build them.

Otherwise, I'm building up a collection of vehicles, and once it'll be consistent enough, I'll put the whole team as a Lego IDEA. I'm sure every Classic Space AFOL needs vehicles for their bases! There's never enough ^^
