Yup.

You can make one of the two RGS's from the CW.

My proposal is buy 2 make one of each

And use the spare of each version for MOCs

I think Oky Wan was talking about the extra Galactic Republic Insignias that come with the sticker sheet, not the nose art decals. Though your suggestion for the nose art is a good one, I might have to buy some extra pieces from Lego.com to accomplish this.

Aaaah  Now I get it. I'd still get 2 if them and do both versions.

Spare insignias, eh? Now they could come in handy.

But I doub't that they've added extra of them. Why should they?

Great review Jim! Nice photos and detailed coverage of the set and minifigs.

Hmm...let's see; has TLC made an earlier version of the Republic Attack Gunship, a smaller one? I think I can remember something like that but I'm not sure, please help me clear up my mind!

Aye, they did: 7163 Republic Gunship. I own the old version and not the new, hence my delay at purchasing the latter. I'm wearing down however! I love the design of the Republic Gunship this new set looks like a great evolution of the first version. Plo Koon and Asajj Ventress are two of my favourite characters too! Your review is almost sealing the deal Jim!

I decided to leave Cody's kama off, so he has some distinction other than color from the other two commanders. Besides, in the movie it looks like he doesn't wear the kama or the pauldron, just his specialized helmet (that Fox has as well) and the special shoulder pads.

With Commander Fox I left the kama off and I'd feel inclined to do so with the others if I get them - the designs/markings on their torso armour are so nice they're best on show when displayed.

The kama is the part that goes around their waist, so it does not interfere with any of the decals. Fox wears a kama, but not a shoulder pauldron. Rex wears both the kama and the pauldron. If one goes off images of what Cody looks like in the Clone Wars movie, he wears neither the kama or the pauldron, just his unique shoulder armor and the visor.

Lime green, I have lots of lime green plates 2x1, but no bricks, so this could be a good set for me. Doesn't Asajji come with 4 lightsaber hilts, not 2?

Aye... pauldron. That's what I meant to type :classic:

Okay, I am going to post a review for this set. I need some help deeplinking photos from my Brickshelf account. Also, the photos were created in 1600x1200 and show up on Brickshelf as 800x600, will those be too big to put up here?

Yes, the preffered size is 640x480 with a max size of 800x600.

Check the tutorial link in my sig for help on resizing.

Personally I use IrFanView - a super freeware program.

But MS Paint does the job, a little slow though.

Can't wait to see your review on this.

Okay, here are my pictures, I will be adding comments periodically.

img_1314.jpg

Here is the base RGS. All of the minis are out from. Surprisingly, nothing fell off getting it to the kitchen table (my only clean workspace)

img_1315.jpg

Here is a pic of the ship without anything by it, just for kicks. One thing that I should not is that the RGS doesn't exactly swoosh that well. Half of the time one of the wings detaches, or the slopes on the side of the cockpit come loose. I have had the top cave in a few times, so the ship could be a little sturdier, the red pieces that jut out from under the wings are held in place from the top and bottom by a single piece, something else should be keeping them in place.

img_1318.jpg

Here is my Twi'lek nose art. A lot of people have decided to leave the art off, but I can't do that. Yes, compared to the space monkey lizard thing, my ship has less kills, but I don't mind that.

img_1321.jpg

Here is one of the nose cannons. These things are pretty cool since they can move in a large radius and are assembled quite nice. However, these are the parts that if you even look at them funny, they will fall off the ship.

img_1324.jpg

Like the nose cannons, the cockpit is extremely fragile. The stickers for the controls might be to blame for that. However, I wish a stronger piece was used somehow. One other semi-issue is the fact that the whole cockpit assembly is attached to the ship by only a pair of ratcheting joints at the top, nothing holds it in place at the bottom. It hasn't given me any issue yet.

img_1325.jpg

Getting the cockpits into the open position generally involves snapping them off, lifting the hinge piece, and snapping the cockpit back on.

img_1327.jpg

The wing pods are really well done. The printed decals on the dome is really nice, and the whole set up is pretty nice.

img_1328.jpg

Here was the first alteration I made to the entire set. I really don't know why they would put the flat 2x2 in there. So it went out.

img_1329.jpg

The cannons look really nice, but they aren't that sturdy. The white parts in the middle need something else to keep them in place.

img_1330.jpg

This was my first experience with flick-missiles. I can't say I am a fan. They look nice when in place though.

img_1333.jpg

The doors on the side are pretty well done, but they don't sit flush with each other. No solution to that though. The two pods that sit in there are not present on this ship. A shame, really.

img_1335.jpg

Here is one of the simple probe droids that comes with the ship. Nothing special, but a nice addition.

img_1336.jpg

Here is the rear gun. It is essentially identical to the forward guns, minus the fragility.

img_1337.jpg

Here is the mini base that comes out of the doors in the front. Despite how small it is, it fits the minis quite well.

img_1339.jpg

Here is the bacta tank. It is pretty nice. I normally use it for storage of my extra accessories.

img_1341.jpg

I wish the two cylinder halves were flush with each other, but they have to be off-set to fit the figures in there.

img_1342.jpg

With the bacta tank and the command center out, a lot of room is freed up in the gunship's front.

img_1343.jpg

Here is our friend Obi-Wan Kenobi. I must say, they gave the poor guy a very cheesy face to go with the bad haircut. The decal on the front of the figure is pretty good. I wish he had printed legs to have the rest of his robe that is outside the clone armor. He should have come with a Clone helmet and a lance.

img_1345.jpg

Here is his back, nothing special. Perhaps some printing on the back or a cloak would have been nice.

img_1346.jpg

Plo Koone rocks my socks off. Ever since I got Jedi Power Battles ages ago, I have wanted a Lego figure for him. Too bad he has the stupid blue saber blade as opposed to the yellow one. The head is a little thin, but I can manage.

img_1347.jpg

The back of his head is very detailed as well. A nice touch.

img_1348.jpg

Asajj Ventress is very well done. The head detail is very intricate for a minifigure. The sabers are very good.

img_1349.jpg

See, if they can detail the back of her head, they can detail the back of Obi-Wan's torso. Overall, she is a great figure.

img_1350.jpg

So I put Cody's kama back on. The detail on the helmet is covered up by the visor, unfortunately. The chest armor has some nice extra detail on it. More than Rex can boast.

img_1351.jpg

Cody's back is just that of a standard clone, nothing special.

img_1352.jpg

I like the new Phase I troopers. The fact that their head piece does not form anything in their helmet is very nice. Now they don't look stupid without their helmet on.

img_1354.jpg

Basically the same as Cody. Detailed and nice.

img_1356.jpg

I have three different Speeder bikes besides this one. This one is the best though. The 3-wheeler back end that forms the back is really cool. I wish there was a place to store the blaster rifle on it. It looks stupid on the side.

img_1358.jpg

He is coming for ya!

img_1359.jpg

Cody and his friends Rex and Fox. I still like Rex the best, even if he has a standard clone body with blue arms.

img_1366.jpg

Here is the whole gang. You can't tell from the picture, but there is a clone in every pod and cockpit. Thank you eBay!

img_1367.jpg

Here is a close-up of the crew.

Scores:

Build: 9/10 - Other than the fragility, I don't have any negatives for the build. It feels very complete.

Playability: 8/10 - Despite how cool the thing is and how much there is to do with it, I hesitate to do anything with it for fear that something will break off. All the stuff opens and closes.

Swooshability: 7/10 - I am pretty hard on the poor thing when it comes to the whole cave in and piece falling off stuff, but it can't be avoided. But, if I hold onto it with both hands and just on the bottom, it works pretty well.

Minifigs: 9/10 - The only thing that could have have helped this one out is another clone or three. At least one for the other cockpit. But Plo Koone and Asajj make up for that.

Design: 8/10 - As I stated before, the only detracting factor is the fragility. Otherwise, the set is very complete. It is bigger and badder than the previous one.

Price: 9/10 - I bought it at Wal-Mart for $118 bucks, which isn't that bad considering the piece count. The thing that ticks me off is that a week later Target had it in their ad for $108 bucks. Oh well.

i found on toys r us that they say the set has 4 clones ???? typo or free gift :vader::sing::hmpf_bad: cb329

Don't know what you saw, but it says it only has one clone trooper besides Cody.

I am thinking about picking this set up at target tomorrow for something to do on the last days of summer. It is pretty expensive, and Target has ended their sale, but I still like it. If I see anything else I like, I will get that, but I am planning on this set.

If I wanted to go to Bricklink and buy 2 of the large panels those stikers go on... what would they be called? I'm not sure how to go about finding them.

Well, if searching for keywords that describe the piece (like "white", "slope", or "6x8") doesn't work, just look up the set that you know it from (7676 Republic Attack Gunship) and look into the inventory of that. There, you can look for pieces that sound like the one you're looking for and look at their pictures to find out which one it is. I already did that for you (and anyone interested in purchasing these white slopes). It's called a white slope 10 6 x 8. You can just copy that name and paste it into the briklink search, or you can click here. Don't ask me what the ten stands for, though.

Reviews for Clone Wars coming in... they bugging you at all, JimButcher? Or, do you stay faithful to this great ship even with the sour critic faces?

I just picked this set up this morning and just took a break in the construction. I can tell that it will take a while to build. I like the mini figures all except for Ventress. I am not a big fan of how she looks. Again, I wish it came with more than 1 regular clone, but whatever. I managed to get 2 bags of accessories like I did with the AT-TE. I also got 4 regular and 4 curved lightsaber hilts. Weird. I Don't like all of the accessories only because I don't use most of them. I have 5 sets of the flashlights and a lot of the antennas and kama. I only used the Visor on Cody because that is all he has in the movies and cartoons. So, I have a bunch of extra stuff that I feel obligated to use, but don't have any use for. So, as of now I am simply collecting all of it.

I also got 4 regular and 4 curved lightsaber hilts. Weird.

I put this set together over the weekend, and I had an extra pair of Asajj's curved lightsaber hilts, as well. I thought there were two extra regular lightsaber hilts, too, but they're actually used on the speederbike.

My overall impression of the set is "Neat, but I thought it would be better." When closing the big doors, are they not suppposed to slip underneath the 4 mini-storage crates on the main body? This really bugged me. Anyway, maybe my finished version is built wrong -- I was doing some serious multi-tasking while building and I screwed up a couple of steps wrong -- had to dismantle the front section, and I had the wings in the wrong spot. I'm going to dismantle the whole set and rebuild it this weekend. Remember this lesson, never build while multi-tasking. Also, my DSS came out of the box with a nice hard crease right through the twi'lek girl and the monkey creature. No biggie, I'm going to call customer service and get a replacement, but it would be nice to have my new toy at least look new when I open the box.

Some of the things I do like about this set:

I like the gunner pods on the wings, can't wait to get clones to actually put in them.

I like the medical tube.

I like Commander Cody, especially decked out in his commander gear

I like Assaj Ventress. She just adds some variety to the sea of clones and droids, and Obi-Wans I've obtained over the past year.

I like that it's a really big set. This sucker is heavy!

4. I got 2 complete sets of clone gear, 4 pistols and 4 of the curved saber handles. That's a nice pile of extras.
4. Yes, an extra set of clone gear is found in both the AT-TE and RGS, which is very nice.

WHAT? I thaught I was very lucky to find an extra set of clone gear in my ATTE... :cry_sad:. Also did the curved LS handles come in the same bag? And one more thing, Did every one find an extra clone gear in their AT-TE or extra LS hilts and clone gear in their RPG?

Oh btw that reveiw has got to be one of the best reveiws ive ever read! Keep up the good work

Since I have absolutely nothing better to do (:hmpf_bad:), I translated the phrase on the sticker with the monkey lizard. It says "Laugh this off". Pretty funny.

It's called a white slope 10 6 x 8. Don't ask me what the ten stands for, though.

It means the angle of the slope is 10 degrees.

wow, old bump, but a great review none the less

I should move my review to its own thread so it doesn't detract from the existing review.
