mrsniady1 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 (edited) Ahoy mates! Here's my newest ship - Batavia inspired VOC galleon, that carries emblems of Amstredam and Amsterdam department of VOC. Ship is build on old-type hull, carries coffee-dyed, machine-sewn, PVC-fabric sails and hand painted flags. The crew is inspired by Night Watch painting by Rembrandt Edited June 12, 2024 by mrsniady1 Quote
Elephant Knight Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Oh, this is a wonderful ship! The shaping is very unique, I can't say I have seen a ship with a hull shaped like that before. The angled walls on the stern are expertly done, and very seamless. Great job! EKnight Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 What a beautiful ship I love how you managed to combine the classic molded hull pieces and brickbuild hull elements. Especially the bulges on the sides. And the bow and stern are build so well. Also props for the custom sails! Quote
Max_Lego Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 AThis is a very beautiful ship! Very streamlined, smooth and cleverly designed. Awesome job! 10 hours ago, mrsniady1 said: The crew is inspired by Night Watch painting by Rembrandt Nice touch! But these guys weren't sailors... But does it really matter, when you are referencing the great artist? Quote
CloneCommando99 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Phenomenal work. Is there an interior that we could see per-chance? Quote

Those hatches under galleries are openable, but acces to interior is poor, so I skipped furnishing. Rooms are empty below deck, nothing to see there. Here's some shots of the deck to make it up. 1 hour ago, Max_Lego said: AThis is a very beautiful ship! Very streamlined, smooth and cleverly designed. Awesome job! Nice touch! Quotenotto Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Beutiful ship, nice reference with the batavia. I love how you acomplished the window angle in the top cabin. What exact material did you use for the sails (and would it be purchasble online)? I really like the look of them and only can imagine the great amount of work that went into them. Quote

The material is the fabric cut from window blinds (this roller thing on windows), it's available in DIY stores or construction markets e.g. Leroy Merlin or Castorama in Europe. This fabric is very close to the material that LEGO uses. And the cost of a set for a small window (fabric 40×100 cm) is about 6 euro. It propably is purchasable online too. Quote

Thank you very much for that info! Did you print the logo onto the fabric or drew it by hand? Quote
mrsniady1 Posted June 13, 2024 Author Posted June 13, 2024 (edited) I painted it by hand, using brush and acrylic paints, thick ones (those come in small tube sets - also available in DIY stores, relatively cheap). I also painted sails for my spanish galleon, posted HERE Edited June 13, 2024 by mrsniady1 Quote
Third Navigator Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Miraculously beautiful ship! I especially love her because It shows that you have given considerable thoughts to one subject = tightrope between reality and scale model. Also every part I can see inspires me to my recent shipbuilding. Quote
NOD Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 A magnificent galleon! Everything is built with great detail. I really like how the quarterdeck slopes upwards on the outside. Quote
Samarth Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 An incredible build. Sand green is a unique and bold choice to go with but the payoff is superb. Quote
MehmetDaSultan Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 (edited) This is great ship, looks like real. But what is voc? Edited July 4, 2024 by MehmetDaSultan Quote

Horation Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 (edited) A lovely build, with clever techniques and a nice colour scheme! 2 questions, though : a) where is all the crew? 4 men for such a ship feels a like a little... b) the ladders are nice, but they make it impossible to access the guns under them, maybe modify it a little? But these are tweeny nitpicks from someone still in contest mode. The sails look custom-made, where'd you get them? Or how did you make 'em? Edited July 8, 2024 by Horation Extra stuff Quote
R0Sch Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 I didn't think such angles would be remotely possible with LEGO. Splendid looking galleon! Quote
Fraunces Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 Amazing ship. As a Dutchman I think you did a wonderful job portraying us Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 I can't imagine how you managed to assemble such round and inclined shapes with bricks! Fantastic ship and beautiful color combination! Quote
Patgeo Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 You have made a very nice build! I really like the color combinations that you made and apart from really nice details, the technic used for the stairs. Well done! Quote
Barbatos Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 Awesome ship! Maybe the curved stairs are a little chaotic but the rest is great! 💪🏻 Quote
YellowFrog Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 The sand green looks great, and something I haven't seen in a ship often. The masonry bricks are particularly clever, as they are nearly always used exclusively in stone buildings. Quote
MehmetDaSultan Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 How did you attach the lower flags to the stern. The gold ones? Quote
