I'm not seeing it because it looks like Tim Burton was on drugs when he made it.

It seems to me that Tim Burton always "looks like he was on drugs" when he directs a movie (Sleepy Hollow, Beetle Juice, Mars Attacks!, Edward Scissorhands, & so on ;) ).

I think it makes for wonderful cinema... :-D

I'm on drugs at the moment. They're getting quite uncomfortable too. I think the lesson to be learn here is never sit on your cold and flu tablets.

I haven't seen this movie yet. Does everyone recommend it?

I recoomend it.

Most of it was good, I didn't like the Umpa Lumpas and the bit's with his dad were... odd. But at least Count Do- er Christopher Lee was in it (yey), I think it is the first time he didn't play a baddy :oo

The umpa Lumpas songs did my hed in. And I was constantly reminded of then Kumas at number whatever |-/

The ending was annoying and should have ended like the old one.

Anyway I sed I recommend it, here's why:

The children were old played by great acters. Mike Teve was exelent and I loved how you saw em all at the end.

Willy Wonka was actually great, even though I had my doubts about his sexuallity at first ;)

It is enteraining, laughable, the bits with Christoper Lee in are odd but tell a nice story.

Oh and there are so many jokes in it. although Grandma Georgina's were annoying and predicable.

But yeah I reccomend it.

Most definitly YES Phes !!!!

Its one of the best movies I have seen in a long time !!!!! Its beautifull, poetic, and there is a LOT of symbols everywhere !!!!!

Its a constant rollercoaster of thrills, poetry, laughs....

The casting is just magnificent !!! I am not going to mention Depp who is totally unforgettable in the role of Willy (one of his best performances after Benny and June and Pirates of the C). The kids are so well stereotyped, you just want to slam them in the head !! The grandparents are touching, especially Charlie's grandpa who is really moving !!!

The Umpa Lumpas are brilliant as well !!! The songs (written by the author) stick so well with the story and visually its fantastic (Beatles and Kiss Umpa Lumpas !!!! Excellent !!!).

Its just another brillant Burton's movie, one of his best !!!!!

I only have one interrogation: why is France never shown in the whole movie ??? Is it due by the book itself or its a deliberate Burton's choice ??

In the flag room, in the shipping area at the beggining (when crates' destination are labelled), in the openning of selling the precious Wonka bars (Tokyo, NYC...). I wonder really.

Do you mean the book author Rohald Dahl, or the screen writers?

How many countries/captial cities were there? Obviously many are going to miss out...

Sarg,

I was just wandering why there were absolutly NO allusions to France:

* None of the chocolate crate were shipped to France

* During the opening stores that sell the bars, you have Tokyo, NYC, middle East, but no Paris

* In the flag room, you have a lot of flags, but not the French one

I was wondering why ?? There must be a reason for this, maybe because Roald Dahl was a RAF fighter pilot in WWII...

I will read the book to try and find an aswer.

Well since the irakian incident, France has been absolutely banned on american TV. A good example are also series. For instance in stargate atlantis, you have teams from all over the places, but no member is from France (you can watch the little flags on their shoulders). Well, whatever...
