"A rudimentary implant" as would say Adam Smasher from Cyberpunk.

This is the first modification, which comes to mind after playing with 60409.
As much as I love that set, picking up whole model to change its direction while driving was a flaw for me.
So here's my modification; with additional 320 pieces carrier receives steering on 6 axles. The width of the carrier increased slightly - from 8 to 9 studs, but it looks like it should be done that way, with bodywork already being 9s wide:

Keeping overal dimensions of the carrier intact (to have unmodified superstructure and boom sitting on it) was a challenge, especially with having 4 steered axles in a row.

But I managed to make it, even with different steering angles!

It's  easy to spot which axles are not steered, they don't have visible Tan pins:

Steering is controlled by t12 gear on the back:

Look how it moves!

Congratulations, this is a much needed MOD.
I look forward to the other modifications you prepare. I really have a big crush on this city set...

Yea.  I will be purchasing the instructions for the steering.  Keep the changes coming, I sure am interested.  Have to wait for the model to come to the US though..

So now there are many modifications done by @M_longer for this set.  I have purchased the instructions to all the modifications.  I will also be fiddling with the cab, since I think it is horrible.  Perhaps I will start a 60409 modification thread, it may be worth it.  There are so many modifications already available, and it is not even available in the US yet.

For those interested in the modifications by the OP, just a word of caution.  There are many hard to find and expensive pieces.  Like the boat weights of old for the luffing jib extension, or the new connector with 3L axle (only available in 60420) for the Y guy arrangement additions.
