sm1995 Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) @kbalage when the set eventually comes out, it would be super awesome if you could do a side by side review with the CADA version edit - seems like I was mistaken and CADA never made an official set out of Bruno’s P1 Edited July 9, 2024 by sm1995 Quote

Anyway, I don't own those sets or the MOC, so I don't have a comparison planned. Based on the video I made for the recent Countach set, most people have strong opinions about their preferred choice anyway (either the MOC or the LEGO set), and these don't seem to be influenced by factual comparisons, so I'm not sure it's worth the effort. damian_kane_iv Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) Not sure Im gonna buy this set. Im already running out of space in my house and another 1:8 set seems gluttonous at this point if I also get the Mercedes 4x4 too But the color and some panel work looks nice though Edited July 9, 2024 by damian_kane_iv Quote
zonoskar Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 I think I'm going to hold off on buying this set until 2026. This could be the last of the 1:8 supercars and in that case I will get it. But if in 2026 another lackluster supercar comes out, I'm done with the series. Availability isn't going to be a problem if the Sian is any example. Quote

And yes, that someone is me I’ll dust off the P1 when the time comes. Maybe disassemble it in smaller modules. I’m sure there is a lot of interest to see them side by side given the immense popularity of Bruno’s model. Quote

Based on panel and part availability, I will also convert the Lego one on Gulf Style :D MCLP1_2 by N2 KAr, auf Flickr MCLP1_1 by N2 KAr, auf Flickr Quote

LegoHoops Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) It’s going to be tough for the Lego 42172 McLaren P1 to compete with all the comparisons against Brunojj’s original P1 version, especially with all his incorporated functions - adjustable ride height, adjustable spoiler height (which the 42172 looks to have), steering activated ‘Air-Brake’, door mechanism, etc. Brunojj’s P1 was released six years ago and has been built by many of us, including myself and it is all over AliExpress in various forms. Granted the Lego version will has had the advantage of a bigger parts toolbox, ie. Panels, Rims/Tyres, Yamaha Gearbox parts. The 42172 will also have a bigger audience who won’t even have the Brunojj’s P1 on their radar or care about our list is functions. I was surprised with the reveal of the older P1, initially thinking it would be the yet to be released codename P18 ‘BLOODL1NE’ car - to celebrate the 10 Year anniversary of the P1. McLaren will so protective of this project, they wouldn’t have wanted any Lego leaks stealing their thunder like what happened with the Lego 42110 Land Rover Defender. We have seen this before with the Lego 42141 McLaren F1, older model appearing over the closely guarded secret of the new seasons F1 car. I was hoping there might be some new Lego suspension parts as the ’P18’ has had a bit of publicity about its 3D printed suspension arms, thought Lego may produce a genetic part to help integrate the bigger Shock Absorbers into these larger scale vehicles. Also my thoughts were the colour would be Reddish Orange (Mercedes G-Wagen) with all the use of this colour in the ‘Space Sets’, as this closely resembles McLaren’s Volcano Orange - the colour was always going to be close to McLaren’s historic Papaya Orange colour-way. The leaked image of the rear end, the Red Soft Axles (taillights) stand out better against Bright Light Orange, than probably what the would have done against Reddish Orange - would have been somewhat lost, as LoxLego’s image shows above. From the initial leaked images I’m somewhat disappointed with the Lego 42172 solution for the rear wing, thought it would be more sculptural and what’s with the accountants keeping the two lonely Black Connector with 90° Axles? I’ll probably end up putting a Black wing in place for a little contrast - couldn’t help myself assembling it on appearance on the leaked images and with the help of some Bricklink parts that had just arrived earlier in the day for another project - damn that addiction. Hopefully there is some sort of wing integration with steering, as Langko’s Pagani Huayra BC built recently - it has very good integrated system with actuating front and rear flaps. The jury is still out on the rest of the P1 until the official images are out there. Almost looks as if there is two of the smaller Tapered Panels to the centre of the bonnet. The rims look way better than the Daytona SP3 rims. I think there will be a revival of all those rear exhaust options from a past Eurobricks thread too and those Engine Scoop prices will might ramp up again, quicker than inflation. As always there will be plenty of scope for modifications, plus the other variants P1 GTR, P1 LM, MSO and there is Lanzante’s selection too - HDK (High Down Force Kit) and Spider. Also the Goodwood Festival of Speed this coming weekend will feature Lanzante x O’Gara Coach x Mad Mike’s (Mike Whiddet) crazy rotary powered McLaren P1 GTR ‘MADMAC’ drift-car, that they have been building and testing in New Zealand. I’ll add Lego McLaren P1 to the Lego Technic car garage for sure and add modifications, it is always better when there is a Kiwi on it! And we got our flag the Lego Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 Yacht too, but this needs to be mod’d into Emirates Team New Zealand’s 202.9km/h Record Breaking Land Yacht named Hononuku. The price of the set will probably be around the current Ferrari Daytona @ NZD$749.00, I guess it’s just a cost of living - fuelling the mind. 😃 Edited July 10, 2024 by LegoHoops Grammer Quote
R0Sch Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 Bright Light Orange (aka 47 - Flame Yellow Orange, FBAB18) also confirmed as the set's main color. Quote

I hope they fit, a while ago I found 3 in a box of parts. Would be nice that I would finally be able to put them to use. That is actually the one thing about the rear I quite dislike about the Lego version. Quote

Alex Ilea Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 It seems that we get the Daytona springs in black this time, and this part recolored in orange. Quote

Marvelous Bricks Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) I noticed these curved panels sit flush with the shape of the front and rear mudguards. Are these new pieces? Edited July 10, 2024 by Marvelous Bricks Quote
sm1995 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Headlights look too big, but other than that I think it looks great. Some small mods should be able to round it out.. Quote
StudWorks Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Looks great, but the front to me... still looks like a C8 Corvette ZO6. Still, definitely better looking than the SP3 set. Quote

Some small mods should be able to round it out.. Agreed. I appreciate the creativity of element use here... but I think it falls short. Doesn't really capture what it is attempting to capture IMO. For several reasons. Headlights are too big, but the outline of the headlights are also made from different elements, with different widths, etc. which really doesn't work IMO. Also, there actually is only one light element in the outline of the headlight, which leaves for a lot of empty space. But as mentioned, likely a big fix. Also, may not be a big deal for some, but for me, it is the first thing I see and biases my view of everything else. Quote
Seasider Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I think the photo @Marvelous Bricks is perhaps one of its better views. I’m not 100% sold on the front, think the black area looks a little heavy. But I don’t think they’ve done a bad job capturing the overall look of the car. Definitely a day 1 purchase for me and I might actually build it straight away unlike my SP3 which is still in its box Quote
LvdH Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) The front looks really weird. It just seems way too short. But will see. I’ll buy it anyway. I like everything else, plus it finally renewed the gearbox design using the Yamaha pieces. Edited July 10, 2024 by LvdH Quote

Do we know this is the case? .....another point, however, a positive one, is those rims. Looks to be some type of gun metal gray color? Excellent look IMO Edited July 10, 2024 by nerdsforprez Quote
