Just outta curiosity, what brought everyone to LEGO Pirates in the first place?

More than anything else I think it was the sheer dazzle factor of one of the great fictional settings being rendered in Lego overnight.  The imagination of Lego fans suddenly leaping into a whole new dimension.  As hard as it may seem to believe now, pirate movies were supposedly considered to be a no-go area for studios for years before the POTC series took off.

And all those new parts!  Before Pirates came along I remember trying to build the Argo from Lego, and it being very tough to make it anything other than blocky and basic, because there were just so few nautical parts available.  I'm all for using your imagination but you do need some things as specialised parts.

I do like the look of the new technique, it better suits the Caribbean waters too. however, the darker one would do better for oceans and such. Either way, I think you should go with the new one. :pir-thumb:

That's what I was about to say.

That's a good point, LEGO did release a bunch of new parts when Pirates launched. Palm trees, ship hulls, sails, face printing... Just to name a few.
