The_Fiery_Rooster Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 The new info we have makes this summer wave feel repetitive in a few ways, but I'm still very excited for a lot of what's coming! I'm very confused by the red knight mech and the ninja combat vehicle. It just feels like different (and worse ppp) versions of what we just got in August. Another large ninja vehicle for $90, and another large display-oriented mech. I don't really expect much from either of those sets right now. Rogue's mech dragon having less than 600 parts for $70 has be disappointed. Hopefully it'll still be cool, but I'm tempering my expectations when it comes to value. Arin's spinjitzu mech could be fun, especially if it has some kind of feature that allows the mech to do spinjitzu (maybe a spinning waist function?) The transforming jet mech sounds like it could be fantastic, and seeing the part count has me all the more excited! I wonder what direction it's going to take, something like starscream or maybe a gerwalk mech (look it up). If Sora's bike mech is anything to go by, the gerwalk is more likely, but who knows. The temple bounty is the most interesting of all of these! Getting a huge villain set is really unbelievable. Given the name and size, I'm expecting this bounty to have a significant structure on it, with at least 2 levels like the movie bounty and maybe a smaller one closer to the front. I'm also hoping the set comes with all of the F5, or at least Zarkt and the two summer ones, since I have no interest in the arc dragon and would like an easy way to finish the collection. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these! Quote

a guy from somewhere Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Yeah still nothing revealed. I have to say I’m really liking the thunderfang though, that blurry leak did not do it justice. The arc dragon im still a bit iffy on. Out of curiosity has it been confirmed by any big leakers that the March crossroads set is actually happening? I’ve seen mixed rumours and at this point I would have expected to have seen a description of it, or at the very least confirmation if it’s a Ninjago city module or not. That’s really what’s gonna dictate if I get it budget wise. Quote

Lemerbrix Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Sets revealed. arc dragon I’m mixed on, past multi-headed dragons have been done really well, however this one doesn’t look as great as the others. thunderfang looks AWESOME, that lock mechanism is genius! I do feel a bit bad about getting the Zane’s ultra combiner mech today, given that all the exclusive figs are in these two sets. also, shame that the side builds in both sets can’t connect to the storm village, would be so easy to do! Quote
Lyichir Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Whoa... I'm a little iffy about parts of the Arc Dragon of Focus's build (especially that harsh bend in the two necks), but I LOVE the colors! Feels extremely fresh for the Ninjago theme (which has mostly reserved colors like purple for baddies instead of something majestic-looking like this). That said, while the colors of the Thunderfang Dragon of Chaos are more conventional for Ninjago villains, the build looks awesome—the ornate shackle around the neck is very cool! Based on minifigures alone these would probably allow me to skip sets like Lloyd's pull-back car, Kai and Nya's flyer, and the combiner mech, but I'll probably still wanna get the latter for Big Zane and Riyu (as well as having a pretty impressive build in its own right). Quote
mantax Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Both of these march sets are quite solid in my opinion. The arc dragon is very unique for ninjago, and that I absolutely adore about it. From the commerical I wasn't that much a fan of the design of it, but after looking at more images of I have to say that it looks great. A new recolor of that storm blade piece is nice, and I love how it has a place for a minifigure in each of the heads. I've actually was expecting there to be a set to integrate the spinner for the villains in one of the summer sets, but I didn't expect it to be here, and that is nice, since it helps to justify the price a bit more. What also justifies the price are the 8 minifigures. But Zane's ultra combiner mech is a must have for me, and 2 minifigures from that set are here, plus Drix and Wyldfyre are in a $10 set, so after that there are just 3 minifigures that I'm interested in here. So with that I won't get this, but I would say that the $100 price seems fine with the size of the dragon, the side builds and minifigures. So I would say that this is a great set, but personally it's not really for me. Also it's great to have this small side builds to combine with the dragonian village to make it feel a bit more like a village. Thunderfang overall feels like a great set, it's always great to get a dragon for the villains, and this one feels very unique. It does share a lot of the design from Jiro, but there is also plenty of unique features that this one has. It's more beast/creature like with the extra eyes and the skiny build, so that's great for an evil dragon. The minifigure selection in this looks great with the exclusive Arin. There's also Tyr, but he is just a regular dragonian, but with different horns, that I kinda expected, but still it's not too great. The price(which I'm not sure if it's going to be, since it's 75 Brickmerge , but fateful says it's 70) looks great for what you get, but I'm a bit uncertain if I'd get this or not, so I'd wait for the summer wave to help me with that. Also Fateful said that Thunderfang can use shatterspin to create a huge tornado. So I'm interested on how that could look like in the show, because if he does the same moves as the other characters that did shatterspin, then that would be quite fun. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Both sets are quite amazing in my opinion, even though the prices could be lower. The Thunderfang Dragon is quite easily one of my favourite Ninjago dragons, ever. I adore the colour scheme, the chains, the way it's built with all the claws and spikes; but especially, I love how it stands on its two legs, and the overall posability. The minifigure selection is also amazing, with four Ninja (including an exclusive Arin), Nokt, and Tyr (also exclusive). I'm slightly less sold on the Arc Dragon. The colour scheme is extremely unique, and I love the two heads. The body is slightly too clunky though. I love that they included a Shatterspin spinner too. It also includes a lot of characters, which is really great, but I don't like how Lloyd is here again, instead of Zane—which would make the two sets perfectly complimentary, with all the Ninja, Forbidden Five members (the Winter ones anyway), and some Dragonians. Dr.Cogg Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I just noticed the dragon of focus has three saddles, 1 behind each head and 1 on its back. Quote
a guy from somewhere Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) New info from RLFM days presentation - spoilers! Spoiler Zarkt is the elemental master of misfortune Thunderfang is a rejected source dragon, and so has a grudge against them. Arc dragon of focus is a champion of the source dragons, a warrior. The opening scene of season 3 involves both dragons, they are both much bigger in the show. I assume that it will be a fight between the 2 dragons to decide if Thunderfang gains SD status? The blue side of the arc dragon is unconfirmed to be ice, the designers couldn't comment. The designers cannot comment on the lack of new suits for the new ninja crew, said they were graphics department things. Waist articulation (seen in the commercial) is unconfirmed but unlikely. That was one of the less interesting sets from the summer wave for me personally, but this does sound quite fun, and with this there would finally be an evo mech for Jay. Also I'm not really a fan of the Dragonian village, so this would be a great way to get Rogue. The price doesn't feel good, but we don't have the images yet. So that can easly change, just like how the Arc dragon looks ok for the price, when it is less then 900 parts for 100. From the in-hand video I love Thunderfang even more, he looks so eye catching on that table, and also how he would be in the show sounds even better. He appers to be an actual character, who I would also expect to speak. Now this might have actualy sold me on the set, but I would wait to se him in the show to see if he is an actual great character there. Misfortune feels like a fun elemental power to see how it could work in the show, since there are plenty of posibilities for that. Like for example one of the ninja vehicles randomly having an malfunctioning when going near Zarkt. Quote

Some more notes from RLFM day presentations - spoilers! Spoiler The source dragons are a "council" The arc dragon is the nemesis of Thunderfang Thunderfang is imprisoned under a mountain in the first realm, and the draconians live on top of it. The saddles aren't used in the TV show. The forbidden 5 where a show creation and where then put into sets. Arin has the same gem from the jet, so it likely has significance. Ras is still an antagonist but not primary The intro to the season is the best yet and has an amazing setting (according to Niek). All F5 originate from the Wyldness The battle between the arc dragon and Thunderfang happened right after time had a name, possibly before the Oni-dragon war The symbol on the structures is unconfirmed to be the symbol, was something that Graphics "just whipped up" Thunderfang creates the storm, which is why hes important. The suits (specifically the masks) were inspired by skydiving wing suits, specifically the ones with fabric between the arms and legs. Maybe something we will see in show? Regular dragons can become elected to be source dragons. Riyu's destiny seems clear I guess. Edited January 3 by a guy from somewhere Quote
Agent Kallus Posted January 3 Posted January 3 The Arc Dragon reminds me of one of the dragons from Dragoncave.net I'd kinda forgotten that dragoncave existed but seeing this dragon now has brought memories back from years ago. I think the Chaos dragon looks better but the Arc dragon has the better fig selection. Though I don't think I'll get either, I get sets from a lot of themes so I can't get every Ninjago set. And fig wise the magazine will help out, and there's a lot of overlap with the Zabe combination mech which I do plan on picking up ( I'm usually more of a dragon guy than a mech guy but that Zane mech has got to be in the top ten Ninjago sets of all time). It could've been interesting if the Chaos dragon was the final member of the forbidden 5 but we've seen all 5 of them (shadowed, silhouetted and obscured but definitely not dragon sized). Funny that Rox was the second to be seen properly but it looks like she'll be tied last to be seen in the flesh ( or in the brick). Sidenote - Could the little tidbits about the show be put in spoiler brackets? I'd still probably read them but then that'd be my fault Quote

Similar thoughts from me about the mech, though I haven't bought it yet. The reveals made me hesitate, but I think I'll still get it since I NEED Pixal and Nokt, and if I don't get the combiner mech I have to buy both dragons which I don't want to do, plus I just love the build for the mech in general and I would quite like the new Riyu and bigfig Zane, so I'll probably just get the mech and consider just Thunderfang later down the line when it's on sale and we know how important he is in the show (already lots of lore but I need him to have some screentime before I consider the set). Just have to hope Zarkt comes in something cheaper in June. Yeah, it is a bit weird that they didn't make the sidebuilds just able to connect properly, as the village isn't really a village by itself, but I suppose they'll still go well next to each other. a guy from somewhere Posted January 3 Posted January 3 It's just occurred to me that both Egalt and Thunderfang cost $70. Im not gonna lie, I think Egalt is one of the most overpriced sets from last year, and I think Thunderfang is definitely more worth the money you pay. Does anyone who owns Egalt also think hes small/overpriced or is he actually decently sized? Im only asking because I managed to get him for £30 new from Ebay, but im keeping him until Rontu gets released so I can build them together. Im curious what the comparisons between Egalt and Thunderfang will be though, because I do plan on getting Thunderfang for full retail when he does release. Quote

The set itself is quite amazing—the dragon looks fantastic (and really unique too), the sidebuild is great, and the minifigure selection is awesome. As for the price, it is too much though. It feels like a 60€ set, maybe 50€ if LEGO was feeling generous. Thunderfang has a similiar problem though, I don't think it looks much bigger than Egalt, even though it has a hundred more pieces. Unfortunately, Ninjago is recently suffering from LEGO's increased prices—especially this year's waves, where it feels (or sounds) like almost all sets should be at least 10€ less than what they are. True, though thats good to hear regardless. My biggest problem with Egalt from reviews is that the body was 2-4 bricks wide, which for a set of that price just didnt feel worth it, especially compared to dragons from hunted, which are the only ones in that size category ive still got around (SD of motions a tad bit too big I think). Thunderfang less so, despite the body being relatively thin I think it does feel bigger due to the stance of it and the wings, they create a (very) rough dome shape when folded down, feeling a bit like lego sets from the 2010s using big pieces and being relatively hollow/empty (looking at you, power miners titanium command rig). Still, Im very excited to get Rontu in the summer and I haven't actually got a S2P1 Ras or cinder yet, so It was a good way to grab them too. The price increases are becoming really apparent, I think the biggest issue with the Jan wave though is figure numbers, specifically the mid ranged sets. if you compare the number of figs we used to get in sets of that size (inflation kinda skewing the metrics, but it still shows), we've seen a significant drop. 3 figs in both $50 sets this wave, we had 4 in storm bringer with was $40 in 2018, 4 in Coles Rock raider from 2017, 4 in the fire fang from 2019. Its just kind of disappointing, especially when one of the figures is a reuse from almost every other set in the wave and in the Ras jet he comes in both the spinner (with Arin) and in the SD of motion and TTC last wave. Ive wondered if the ninjago team consider the little dragon buddys to be "figures" sort of like how dreamzzz considers the dreamlings figures but they're not highlighted on the box. I love the jet build but that figure selection is seriously off-putting, and with the reveal of the Arin suit in the Thunderfang, im guessing thats gonna be his actual suit this coming season. Dragons are a difficult thing to price-gauge though, it's been stated many times by designers that joint pieces are more expensive to produce, so they need to allocate more budget to those pieces. Rolyat24 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 I like both of the new dragons but neither is blowing me away. The color schemes are interesting and refreshing but I’m not sold on either’s shape yet. I don’t really understand how Thunderfang is able to stay upright as it seems really front-heavy. At $50, this would be a good set, but I can’t justify it at its current price. The Arc Dragon is much bulkier and feels more worthwhile, especially at a discount. I don’t really like the horns as I think they’ve been a bit overdone recently (in Zane’s ice dragon creature and Cole’s EVO dragon specifically). The Zarkt figure is really cool though. I’m glad we aren’t getting a full slate of new ninja minifigures in the March wave. 3 suits in one year was too much in 2024. I am puzzled about Arin having a different hood in this wave though. I like this version a lot more than the one in the jet, but why use two valuable element slots on this minor difference when Sora and Wyldfyre don’t get any updates? I don’t usually buy sets until well after they debut, so I’ll have some time to think about these (especially vs. the Zane combo mech). Too many good sets, not enough money/space/time! Quote

Arin and Sora just got the golden storm suit hoods like Kai for the dragon spinjitzu sets, and only likely had them in one full-size set each so that they could fit in their respective vehicle cockpits. Just a shame that that means we don't get the proper new Arin suit in the jet, and 2/3 of the spinner sets lose their would-be exclusive figure (resulting in Kai's being the only one that has an exclusive variant like most gimmick sets, most comparable to the rising dragon ones from last year that were also just the current suits but with special golden hoods). On a similar note, I assumed Wyldfyre was just missing her shoulder armour in the battle suit mech set because it's a small set and the armour wasn't worth it with the small budget, but her missing it in the Focus Dragon set makes me think she might actually not have it in the show, which is weird since her upper torso looks a bit strange without it.
