While I don't care for any Technic car, or any licensed set for that matter, a simple browse through Brickset's most owned recent Technic sets will explain everything. It may not be the most representative sample, but it's the best open source info we've got. People keep buying these sets, you can see it online with people posting their collections, so no amount of moaning will change this in the near future. The few non-car sets that still get released not only get little to no love, but also Lego keeps kneecapping them on release with ridiculous prices and/or shoddy designs. Moreover, anecdotally I see more discounts on licensed sets rather Lego original sets which doesn't help either. For some inexplicable reason that terrible Material Handler never dropped below 100 euros, the same holds true for the Firefighting Plane now. Instead of dropping prices, Lego just retires these sets after 1-1.5 years and draws the conclusion that original sets don't sell. Meanwhile you can routinely find most of the licensed cars at -30% on Amazon or other online retailers.

I have to agree with others about the tremendous amount of cars. Of course, if they sell well, they must make more, but what saddens me the most is the lack of knob-controlled functions. I mean, take a look at the Peugeot car. It SHOULD have at least 2 mini LAs to open the frunk and the hood. But no, you have to open them up manually... I really hope we get just one set with a mini LA, or better, a normal/XL one. Pneumatics are good, too, we'll surely get one or two, but they can't replace LAs.

I remember 42000 being heavily criticised for its LA-powered opening mechanism, and how it should have been manual, or have its entire rear body removable.

There is simply no way that the Technic team can please everyone.

I think there is a way. If their portfolio consists of 23-24 sets, and some cars are built on the same scheme, one of them can include a mini LA. Or one of them can have a removable rear or body.

In 2019 we had the Porsche 911 RSR
In 2021 the Ferrari 488 GTE
In 2023 the Peugeot 9X8

I guess in 2025 we will have a new display race car.

Awful lot of wishes and speculation in this thread.

Anyway, while I'm not at all interested in cars, it's obvious that they sell very well and as long as proper Technic sets keep being produced, I'm not complaining too much, as the cars also bring lots and lots of new parts and recolours for us.

Since we had Technic space sets this year, perhaps it would make sense for there to be underwater Technic sets next year? Sometimes LEGO will follow a space, sea pattern with their sets like did for City and Friends. Plus, vehicles and structures from space and sea use the same airlock connector pieces anyways. And besides, we haven't gotten any proper lines of underwater sci-fi sets since Atlantis, really (subthemes Ninjago Seabound and City Deep Sea Explorers technically don't count.) Another cross-theme wave dedicated to Aquazone or some other related branding would be ideal.

If I am correct and such sets are released, I would anticipate most if not all of the Technic models would have manual functions like the space models did (as to anticipate children wanting to play with them in water), unless some new underwater motor system is introduced for the Powered UP System (like the one Playmobil has). A new underwater motor is definitely unlikely until proven otherwise by TLG, but even with manual functions any underwater Technic model would be greatly appreciated, since no underwater Technic vehicles have been released since that yellow submarine set with the CD-ROM back in 1997 (the mini-sub in 2015's Deep Sea Explorer set doesn't really count.)

If we do actually get an underwater technic subtheme, I'd love to see some kind of depth control, possibly bringing the concept of am air tank back. An underwater motor would be amazing, along with some kind of radio control that can penetrate a few meters of water, and maybe a pressure sensor of some kind.

That's why this is called a discussion thread

You guys continue this awesome discussion meanwhile I think the successor to 42128 aka the HD Tow Truck should come by next few years, expecting from the year 2025.

[EDIT]

Removed my post, as it appears it may have annoyed other members for not being in the correct thread. Is there a 'speculation and wish list' thread for 2025 Technic?

Another wave of cars???

Yes, the entire wave of 2025 sets is actually just one set, which is a car.

Yeah, but it's not about 2025 sets. I know people wish some sets would come in 2025, but that does not make it a discussion about 2025 sets. This could mostly go into future wishes and speculation thread.

It's a trend. When the 202x thread begins information is really scarce. Not to blame people too much if speculation and wishes (to some extent) invades here 🤷‍♂️

This. There's a separate thread for wishes and speculation, and as long as we lack actual facts or even supposed leaks to discuss, it's pure guesswork and wishing instead of discussion about 2025 sets.

Ha. That's also correct. Howevr, the speculation and wishes thread does not specify the year meaning you can wish and speculate any set for any years to come. Again, the wishes and speculation that are being made here are for 2025 😛

I think 2025 can have two threads:

A) 2025 Official sets discussion thread

B) 2025 Wishes and Speculations thread

Now it's upto people and higher-ups if they allow/think a certain year can have two such threads or not 🤷‍♂️ Fact is, when all 2024 sets are revealed and reviewed (mostly) people are supposed to enter the future wishes and spec thread just before a handful amount of information for 2025 comes out therefore requiring a dedicated thread where discussions will be solely for whatever are actually happening. Howevr, for years that is not happening here 🤦🏻‍♂️

Then just post in the Future Wishes thread and start with "For 2025 I wish..."

Problem solved

When we get the same amount of models in 2025, surely there is room for 8...10 non-car sets

The topic has been renamed.
We can keep this topic for discussion, speculation, and wishes.
When we get confirmed information about the sets, we can open a proper 2025 sets topic.

Feel like a Ferrari 499P would sell quite well.

It feels like we just had a Ferrari though, I think it would likely be another brand. But imo they should kill the 1:10 series unless they start putting more features in without raising the prices.

Хотя такое ощущение, что у нас только что был Ferrari, я думаю, что это, скорее всего, будет другой бренд. Но им, по-моему, стоит закрыть серию 1:10, если только они не начнут добавлять больше функций, не повышая цены.

I think they just technically won’t be able to add more features and keep the same price for the finished product, except perhaps minimally, for example, make a retractable spoiler for sports cars.

Иногда я задаюсь вопросом, в чем ценность некоторых новых наборов и отражают ли цены то, «что вы получаете за эти деньги»

The value of the sets is in the ability to transform them into other models with a decent appearance, after all, this is a constructor, not just a model. 42154 in the latest sets is top for the money, the rest are not very good... well, that’s in my opinion.
