Paul B Technic Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Transforming the Lego Technic Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3: A Customization Journey Lego Technic has long been a favourite among enthusiasts for their complexity and the endless possibilities they offer for customization. The Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) is no exception. As a dedicated Lego builder, I've taken on the challenge of enhancing this already impressive c model, to fit my needs better. Here's a look at the modifications I've made so far and some plans for future improvements. New Wheels and Tyres One of the first modifications I made to the ORMFTmk3 was upgrading the wheels and tyres. The original wheels were good, but I wanted something that could handle more rugged terrain and give the truck a more aggressive look. After some research, I found a set of more robust tyres that fit perfectly with the existing wheel hubs. These new tyres not only improve the truck's off-road capabilities but also enhance its overall aesthetic. Extended Rear Chassis To provide more space for future attachments and to improve the truck's balance, I decided to extend the rear chassis. This modification involved adding several new parts to lengthen the frame and reinforce it to ensure stability. The extended chassis allows for better weight distribution, which is crucial when carrying heavy loads or attaching new equipment. Improved A-Pillars The A-pillars on the original model were a bit flimsy and prone to bending under pressure. To address this, I reinforced the A-pillars with additional Technic beams and connectors. This modification has significantly increased the structural integrity of the cab, making it more durable during heavy use. Modifications to Rear Tray Tilting One of the most functional aspects of the ORMFTmk3 is its tilting rear tray. However, I noticed that the mechanism could be smoother and more efficient. I reworked the tilting mechanism by replacing some of the parts and adding additional supports to the tray. These changes have resulted in a smoother tilting action and improved reliability when dumping loads. Future Plans While these modifications have already made a noticeable difference, I have lots of plans for further improvements. Here are a few ideas I'm currently exploring: Modular Attachments: Designing a series of interchangeable attachments for various tasks, such as a crane, winch, and different types of cargo beds. Electronic Upgrades: Incorporating motors and remote-control capabilities for more dynamic functionality. Improved Body Style and Looks: The front end I feel could do with some improvements, I have noticed that it does fall off at times. The decision to use the ORMFTmk3 as the base for these modifications was driven by its better scale and compatibility compared to the older truck I was using. The older model presented too many issues with sizing and fitting the attachments I had in mind. The MK3's design provides a more suitable foundation for the complex modifications and improvements I want to achieve. Conclusion The Lego Technic Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in customizing and enhancing their Lego models. With the modifications I've made so far, the truck is better equipped to handle a variety of tasks and terrains. The journey of modifying the ORMFTmk3 has been incredibly rewarding, and I look forward to sharing more updates as I continue to refine and enhance this versatile vehicle. If you're considering taking on a similar project, I encourage you to dive in and see where your creativity takes you. Happy building! https://paulbtechnic.blogspot.com/2024/07/lego-technic-ormftmk3-15072024.html Quote

Paul B Technic Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) - Attachment - Reel Mower MK2 Recently I was able to to spend some time working on improving my Reel Mower attachment for my Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3). I had previously built this however I found a few issues, specifically as it had a solid axle, it would not turn well. I was also not 100% happy with the previous lifting mechanism, so I have changed this to now not have a lifting mechanism and it stays in one place. I added a front roller bar and improved the rear cover. https://paulbtechnic.blogspot.com/2024/08/off-road-multifunction-truck-mk3.html Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 4, 2024 Author Posted August 4, 2024 Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) - Attachment - Cherry Picker Recently I was able to to spend some time working on improving my cherry picker attachment for my LEGO Technic Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3). I had previously built this however I found a few issues, specifically with how it attached to the truck. I was also not 100% happy with the previous lifting mechanism, so I have changed this to lift in a more controlled way. Features: * Lifting Mechanism. Controlled via the black gear on the rear. * Turn Table. Controlled via the grey lever on the rear. * Tool Boxes. * Access Ladder. This also acts as the top cover for the tool boxes on the left. * Centre area for bin storage. Overall I am very happy with these changes and improvements. It now looks much more finished and the functions all work much better. More Photos: https://paulbtechnic.blogspot.com/2024/08/off-road-multifunction-truck-mk3_4.html Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) - Attachment - Rubbish Bin Loader Recently I was able to spend some time working on designing and building a rubbish bin loader attachment for my LEGO Technic Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3). Features: * Lifting Mechanism. Controlled via the green lever on the rear. This also works as a crusher. * Top cover opens via green lever on the side. * Rear Tailgate opening. * Pin from tailgate also used to lock the bin arm in place when emptying the rear area. Overall I am very happy with this. The functions all work well and it has a good play factor. Photos and Video: https://paulbtechnic.blogspot.com/2024/08/off-road-multifunction-truck-mk3_8.html Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) - Attachment - Loading Forks I have recently been working on designing and building another attachment for my Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3, this is a set of loading forks. It has one feature, the forks are raised and lowered via the black gear on the top of it. It connects to a worm gear and 8 tooth gear for the lifting mechanism. https://paulbtechnic.blogspot.com/2024/08/off-road-multifunction-truck-mk3_9.html Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 LEGO Technic Off Road Multi Function Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) Attachment - Front Dozer Blade V2 Recently I have spent some time designing and building a new attachment system for the front of my Offroad Multifunction Truck MK3, this allows for different attachments to be used and share the same lifting mechanism and mounting points. My first attachment for this was a redesign of my front dozer blade. With V2, it attaches via these standard mounting points and can be raised and lowered via the black gear on the top, which connects to a worm gear and drives a 8 tooth gear. This works well and these standard mounting points will be used for all my front mount attachments going forward. Paul B Technic Posted August 13, 2024 Author Posted August 13, 2024 Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3 (ORMFTmk3) - Attachment - Road Roller I have recently been working on designing and building another attachment for my Off Road Multifunction Truck MK3, this is a road roller. It has one feature, the roller is raised and lowered via the black gear on the top of it. It connects to a worm gear and 8 tooth gear for the lifting mechanism. This use the same new mounting system as my other front mounted attachments. Due to the weight of it, I have had to add some extra bracing to the front of the chassis to brace this and support the weight better.
