KimT Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 So, now I'm back from a month of summer vacation. As You might have noticed, I've put the hammer down on some topics. The late summer cleaning has begun . I am happy to see that my fellow admins and the users of this forum have been discussing how to post and behave in here. I'll try to hand out help and warnings in a grown up manner, but bear in mind that a near to zero tolerance will be imposed on members spamming the boards. I have no problem with typos and grammatical errors - this is a global site and therefore we cannot expect members to speak (write) a perfect US or GB English. Leave the flaming and attacking to me and report members behaving badly instead of confronting them on the board. Thanks for Your participation on Eurobricks' SW forum and making this a great place to hang out. Stay on target! KimT Quote
Dovchenko Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) 1) if you are going to quote somebody's post then get it right.Huh? 2) I write like I speak. If you don't like that then just skip my posts. Just pointing something out. 3) if you are going to correct people's spelling you really should try harder - "grammer" is spelled grammar Then I guess we can both learn something then. 4) intentions and other words of three syllables are not considered long words Just saying... I'm beginning to think that this forum has become over sensitive to youth culture. You guys are trying to prevent people from using LOL, TTYL and such but you carry on using LEGO abbreviations like RGS, MOC and AFOL. What is the difference between using modern conversational shortcuts and those that have grown up in the LEGO community? Nothing that I can see. Why call it Star Wars when you can call it SW? Why say Republic Gunship when you can say RGS? Why say "I made a My Own Creation!" when you can say "I made something" or "I made an MOC." It's more like people don't want to use such large words for everything. For the sake of Dovchenko I am translating that last paragraph into short and more friendly words so he can understand: For the sake of me? Ah, you shouldn't have. You are all too pissy with the kids. Sure, why can't they say LOL and stuff like that when you all use AFOL and other LEGO slangs? It's all dope, yo. Let's be real here. I really don't know why I'm letting Dovchenko get under my skin, he's only 13 after all, which is nearly one third my age. That's 14, don't worry, I'll "take my leave of you" it it's really so bad. If you think that teenspeak is being promoted by the younger forum members then enforce the age limit in the registration process. But it won't stop everyone from using some l33t speak because even so-called adults slip into it from time to time. Even stuffy, over-educated authors with their hair rolled up in a bun like me. I don't think you're an over-educated bun-rolled up person like you think you are. I just thought maybe it got tiring using big words all of time time. If I signed up on Eurobricks to get chambered for being 14, then KimT would have knocked me out cold and dragged me into the chamber already. Just relax, I wasn't trying to do or say anything mean about you. Basically my problem is that in your posts it kinda sounded like you were blaming Bonaparte for getting a little worked up. He's a good admin who isn't abusive of his powers, he's just trying to make his point. I couldn't help but laugh at that one and you do bring up some valid points. What, against me? Plural Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 What, against me? Oh no, I didn't mean that. I just meant that I understand where LEGOscum is coming from. Quote

Trexxen Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I think that we're all missing the point here, people. The occasional "lol", "rofl", "XD", etc. is FINE, but don't let stuff like that make up your entire post! For instance, I very often throw in "XD" to make it clear that I found something funny, rather than saying "I found your post very humorous," because it is quicker and sounds less formal, which is what this site is all about. It's only when posts degenerate into this: "i think that the rgs is a fun model, but wtf is up with those new cw faces rofl" At that point, it has become a problem and should be dealt with. (Oh, and on a side note, LEGOscum, though I understand that you were referring specifically to Dovchenko with your post, this bit: You are all too pissy with the kids. Sure, why can't they say LOL and stuff like that when you all use AFOL and other LEGO slangs? It's all dope, yo. was not only uncalled for at the time but was also very annoying to me, as a person who would fit into the age group you're trying to stereotype. Not all teenagers are like that, and it makes me sad to know that people are so narrow minded that they can't accept that some teenagers may be mature enough to not be a part of that group. It would seem you have a bit of growing up to do yourself.) Quote

There was no generalisation about any age group, so I fail to see how you can take offence at a statement that wasn't meant for you ? I don't believe anyone here is stupid enough to stereotype all teenagers like you think they've done ... Quote
