Posted July 26, 2024Jul 26 The Child - Steve's childhood [HUN] Legújabb MOC-om egy másik kihívásra készült eredetileg. [ENG] My latest MOC was originally created for another challenge. There the number of pieces was very limited, so the MOC was not as elaborate as in this case. Of course, I had to compromise to fit the 200 piece limit, but I think I was able to keep this new MOC elaborate enough. In Story, I just wanted to include it in the current challenge as "This is Steve as a kid". I don't think more needs to be said about him than that, as everything else is apparent.

Isn't it possible to have 3 large ones and 3 small ones? Because then I can have one small entry and one large entry. Edited July 27, 2024Jul 27 by MyFirstMOC-Hun
July 28, 2024Jul 28 Yes 3 of each, you must limit yourself to, leaving you with two, One small, one large, hopefully, it shall be something you brew with as much care as this fine build : a good story, a nice palm tree a good beach, but I have a critique, to avoid making this comment free ; make the water less flat, with plates and not tiles, lest it look out of place, so that you may fill with gold thy bankbook.
July 30, 2024Jul 30 I like Steve's childhood! It's funny how the little pirate plays with his ship. On land he has already built a fortress out of sand. There is a palm tree, flowers and plants on the beach. The enemy (crab) can already be seen on the right of the picture.

July 30, 2024Jul 30 @MyFirstMOC-Hun, my first comment might have been a little hard to understand, so here's one that's easier : I quite like the idea behind this set (and those custom "sails" are quite a solid addition to the whole build). I feel like the small details are captured, but just like in a previous build by elephant knight, I feel like there are too many tiles for the water so it looks a little too clean for my taste, I would replace a few of those pieces with cheese slopes to make it feel a little more like it is in motion
August 2, 2024Aug 2 Ahoy Matey! You know me by now- It’s Captain Crit, back with another criticism sandwich for polly! Ye did a great job buildin’ this, a good beginning to the story of Steve. I’ve really come to love this style of yours, with the classic background and brown and gold tray- It looks quite fitting for this model! As always, it was a tough task to come up with a critique for this build, as it looks quite good already. The biggest thing I can think of is that the beach doesn’t quite match the rest of the scene, since it is quite studded, while the rest of the scene is quite smooth. Also, the grassy patch on the right seems a bit out of place for some reason. Perhaps if you removed this it would give you enough pieces to cover the beach with tiles and bows. Me favorite part o’ the build is the tiny boat. It is a great nod to what Steve would go on to do later in life and is well executed, particularly the wand for a bow and the custom sails. Fair Winds Matey!
August 3, 2024Aug 3 I think consistency is key, so either replace some of those plates with tiles, or some of those tiles with plates. Alternatively, you can go with my suggestion and make the water look "broken" with some waves using cheese slopes.
August 4, 2024Aug 4 Great concept, and I love the gold detailing. Palm tree is nice too, but the sand looks a little jagged and disjointed. Good work!
August 6, 2024Aug 6 That's a recurring issue with your builds MyFirstMOC, I'd note that down for any future design of mine if I were you. But it's not as big of a deal here than in some of your larger builds, since you do have a limited parts budget to work with.

August 6, 2024Aug 6 The jagged plates on the beach. Look at your beach again, if you do you'll notice the shape is not the smoothest to say the least. YellowFrog was just saying he finds the beach jagged and a little disjointed, I wrote my comment for him, as a reply to his observation. I also wrote it for you, so that you may perhaps improve your techniques a little. Edited August 6, 2024Aug 6 by Horation

I like this kind of solution. But we are not all the same. However, I would be interested to know how you would have solved it. Maybe that would have been better.
August 6, 2024Aug 6 There are a few options. I would recommend rounded plates, lining up the corners of wedge plates (so that you don't have any sharp unnatural 90 degree corners), or greebling the edges. Edited August 6, 2024Aug 6 by YellowFrog

I'll try it for the next project. In principle, I have one more project for retired Steve, but I'm not sure if it will fit in the time.
August 6, 2024Aug 6 It looks like a nice scene with a neat little border to frame it in. It's like capturing a childhood memory. My suggestion for improvement would be his legs (or lack of). I get that he's supposed to be in the water but it looks a little odd. You could put some short legs on him and then cut out a little space in the water to sit him in, then if you want to take him out of the water and put him on the beach you could plonk a 1x2 in to fill it up and still look good.

I am waiting for lego to deliver the parts for this moc. And I ordered a child's foot to go with it. Just to see if I could hide it in the water.

August 6, 2024Aug 6 Lovely, nice, little build. Good work. If I could suggest something, it would be switching to dakr tan in this lower level of sand tiles, these that are just next to the water. It would work better as a wet sand. Is usage of only bright orange for details intentional? I mean - there is a crab, a flowers on the right and a flower on the left. All in bright orange and there are no other... beach/jungle details present in the build.

The bricklink designer program used the S5 palette m, in which not all of these modified tile elements were in dark elements. Yellow is a recurring colour in my MOCs. Lately, I've been adding a yellow crab shell or yellow flower to every project.
August 6, 2024Aug 6 @MyFirstMOC-Hun Oh, okay, that makes sense. Frankly, when I think about it, I'm not sure it there already are dark tan corner tiles. This my be the case why they were not allowed in that Bricklink contest. If that helps with your future builds - instead of corner tiles you could use slopes and connect them with some SNOT technique. You should be able to hide everything nicely thanks to that base and frame. Perfectly make sense with the yellow details then. Thanks for the answer. ;)
August 6, 2024Aug 6 @MyFirstMOC-Hun. some suggestions have already been made, but I'll give you one of mine. You could use some of those rounded pieces Lego uses for their beach builds (like in 10320).

August 8, 2024Aug 8 I really like this entry. Construction très propre, idée originale pour l'eau (première fois que je vois l'utilisation de cette couleur opaque) tour d'affichage très propre qui donne envie d'exposer. Tout est là et cela ressemble à un mini set officiel. Félicitations.
