Technically I'm still waiting on a Bricklink order to complete this, but I just borrowed some parts for the pictures.

Steve didn't always have command of his cutter. After an unfortunate incident, which involved some noodles somehow, he was stripped of his command and sent to serve aboard the Margaret Hamilton. He quickly found the captain was a tyrant to his crew, and arrogant to boot. Steve jumped ship as soon as he was able and quickly found himself a home aboard the Skull's Eye Schooner.

I thought that the name "Margaret Hamilton" was very piratey sounding when I saw that tile. Hence, the name of the ship. I have also been wanting to try out the clip and tubing thing for  a ship's stern for while.

I didn't have plans to build this at the beginning at all, but I got inspired by a ship recently posted on the forums. This ship has a few firsts for me, like using curved slopes for the hulls, and a new technique for making the sails. even the way the stern is constructed, with the clips on the tubing, is a first for me.

A marvellous design! The build truly feels like an expansion of the OG cutter. My only gripe is that the 2x2 flags would probably be better off in black than red. But that may be a personal taste thing. What set does Margaret Hamilton come in?

Thank you. The red 2x2 flags are actually the one part that I had to borrow for the pictures. I did try it with black during the building process, but I found I didn't like it as much as red.

Excellent ship! Great design and you captured the feel of the merchant ship while upscaling this to an actual larger vessel. Good to see the comparison to the originals as well.
You have a good mastery of these larger ship building techniques and contouring and I hope I can one day build something to this caliber. I'm enjoying this competition exactly because it is bringing out some very talented builders such as yourself.

Sails look great especially the print! Is that cloth or paper? How did you get the print on there?

Epic build! I’m truly impressed at the scale of this up-sized cutter! Very nice use of LEGO ropes to make this look like a real ship. I like the ship’s figurehead and all the adornments. My only recommendation would be to add a monkey! Every large ship needs a monkey!

the clip and tube, for uses non-naval 

and the hull shape, in ways alike.

Yet I have one question, elephant knight

Where does Steve sleep at night?

In which kitchen does the cook fuel

a demanding captain far too cruel

for our unfortunate Steve to stand?

So I request for your camera to land

on the ship, and for it to take a picture,

or a couple, of this lovely depicture

of a merchant ship, that might still win

you a prize, and prevent any chagrin.

Thank you for your kind words! I wouldn't by any means say I am the best ship builder out there, (the recently posted Saint germain is still far above my skill)But I would consider my talent to be above average.

The sails are cloth. They are stiffened up by using a mixture of gesso, water, and paint(For the colour.) I put four layers of this concoction on. I found the recipe on a topic here on this forum from like, 10 years ago or something. Once they are stiffened up, I cut it into paper sized sheets, and run it through my regular Ink-jet printer. The results are fantastic, in my opinion. I will have to tinker with the amount and colours of paint. This is my first attempt, and it's pretty good, but I definitely want to be able to match the original Imperial Flagship's sails

A lovely poem, sir, and I shall add some pictures of the interior to the main post right away. The interior is not fully fleshed out, I'm just not a fan of doing interiors, and they are a bit tricky to access, but there is some done.

A very beautiful and well-built ship! I really like the shape of the ship's hull; it almost looks like a model ship. The masts, rigging and sails are realistically built. Together with the 4 Lego Boat, Mast Rigging it is also easy to play and minifigures can be placed.

I’m with Wes, I’d like to see the interior too (maybe that’s where the monkey is hiding, lol). Please know that I struggled to find a critique so don’t take the monkey comment too seriously.

They call me Captain Crit in these parts and I heard that polly wants a sandwich (They’re fed up with crackers apparently) - a criticism sandwich that is! (For you landlubbers, that’s 3 seas [Cs]- Compliment, Constructive Criticism, and another Compliment).

Ye did a great job buildin’ this and writin’ a story to go along with it. The story is short and sweet, and the mention of noodles got a great big smile outta me!

It was a tough task to come up with a critique for this build, as it looks incredible already! The only things I can think of is to tile the floors of the interiors to match the decks, and maybe add the ocassional plank in dark tan to show a bit of weatherin’ for I’m sure this ship has seen many days. And of course, it could use a monkey if you’ve got one lying around :)

It was hard for me to pick out me favorite part o’ this build too. I really like the detail you put into it, both inside, on the deck, and on the exterior.  I’ve seen many other ships that only focus on one element, but this ship has it all! The sails and tube and clip design also look quite good.

I quite like the interior, and I actually think that the use studs inside makes it feel more lived in , since we'd expect the inside to be for the crew (hence, no need to advertise to the harbour commander that the ship is clean).

But yeah, add a parrot or a monkey (but I get it if you've got too little of budget leftover, I saw those two goats!).

Nice ship: one can really see that it is inspired by the Imperial clippers. The sails look good too, are they made of paper?

Impressive! Most impressive! There's been quite a bit said already so I won't repeat too much, but it looks really nice and captures that classic Lego vibe. Also if I ever get the inspiration for a moc I might try that recipe you mentioned to make sails.

I guess my critical point is a bit nitpicky but the first thing that stood out to me was the little ledges under the sides of the ship. They look a little blocky compared to the rest of the hull and could look better using some inverted curved slopes perhaps just to clean it up.

Thank you! I consider one of my best aspects of MOCing is my ability to capture classic Lego set looks. Inverted slopes would perhaps be a smoother option, but it does not grant me the option of half stuff off-setting, which is why it is how it is.

As I mentioned in a previous response, the sails are made using cloth that has been stiffened up using watered down gesso, and paint for colour.

Oh, I can see that now. I didn't notice where it was off-set before. I would have otherwise suggested some curved slopes or cheese wedges on their sides but it looks like that would be a lot more difficult to implement.

Amazing ship! It's nicely built, not too complicated, still has some set vibes. I would like to make something like that in future (got Black Peal and new Barracuda, they will be used as a base for two ships). :D

I really like the fact that the name of that ship come from printed tile and is a name of woman that helped sending nother ship to the Moon. :D

Wanted to ask about sails but I see that this question was already asked ans answered. Great job. Could you please share the link to the mentioned "sails production tutorial"?

You should consider submitting this to Lego Ideas... it would have my vote at least. The only thing is, they might not accept it, claiming it is too similar to the Barracuda.

Does it have fewer than 3 000 pieces? That would be an even bigger concern I think than the similarity to Barracuda bay.

I’m kinda curious if the figurehead’s shield has a print on it. I’d also like to know if all the pieces are gold or if you managed to create the effect just by clever piece placement. Nice choice by the way. A ship this epic deserves an epic figurehead, well done!

The shield used is this one from the Egyptian Warrior from Series 13 CMF. All the parts are official Lego parts and all gold. Head and hair are from this figure, torso and legs from the Flying Warrior from Series 15 CMF. Just added some gold arms and hands, which come from plenty of figures, like C-3PO

Wow, not only did you do a lot of work with your build, you gathered unique pieces and linked references for each one. I would have believed you is you just said - yes, lol

Now I might be getting picky, but those gold wings would look really nice on that figurehead too!

I've never tried making sails myself, but always wanted to give it a go. It's probably because I've never built a proper ship MOC: the one I did build had a hot air balloon instead of sails, as it was a flying pirate ship.
