BardDandelion Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 @Elephant Knight Thanks for sharing the link, I will have to take a look at this. Gosh, so many great tutorials are gathered here. The one I remember was about creating a medieval landscape and village diorama, it also was posted at least ten years ago. I agree that "Nancy G. Roman" does not sound as piratish as "Margaret Hamilton". Maybe it's because "Hamilton" fits that era in this part of the world. I mean - I'm not an American but I even know that Hamilton was among Founding Fathers of the US. This is very similar period, especially in aesthetics - British red coats, muskets, tricorns, fancy wigs. Quote
Horation Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Indeed, the name matters, as it sets the theme behind the build. "Roman" feels a little more modern as a name, while Hamilton sounds British to me so I have to agree with you. Quote

For me Hamilton is a very Piratey name mostly because of the show Black Sails. It's quite probably that the characters are based on historical figures, as many are in that series. I recommend that show to anyone wanting to get in a good Piratey mood. EKnight Quote
BardDandelion Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 For sure, "Hamilton" fits perfectly but if you ever consider making another ship, perhaps pirate ship that will go for this merchant one, you may go for "Sally Ride". This printed tile comes from the same "Woman of NASA" as "Margharet Hamilton" and "Nancy G. Roman". I think that "Sally Ride" would be a perfect name for pirate ship, for me it has similar vibe to "Jolly Roger". Quote

'Sally Ride' sounds tacky, and so does 'Jolly Roger' when I think about it. But this tackiness is offset by its popularity, so 'Jolly Roger' is acceptably tacky. Quote

I only own this and the Nacy G Roman because I got them in a bulk lot. But of the names, it would be the second best one, I would agree. I could almost see myself getting one off bricklink for this exact purchase. EKnight Quote
Franco Clarke Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Marvellous build, makes me want to build an indiaman in the same colours. I like the choice of the jackass-brig rig, fits well for a merchantman, matched by the accurate colour matching for the sails. I can't see in the photographs, but does she carry guns on her deck, or are the cannon-ports 'painted' on to intimidate pirates? Quote

There are no guns, they are "painted on". EKnight Quote

Maybe would be easier to get that one on BL? ;) Quote

There are so many details to be found on this ship, absolutely fantastic! Quote
Rui Miguel Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 I'm very late to the party but this entry is amazing. The design is super cool. I love how you achieved the curves on the side of the ship and in the back. The colour scheme is fun as well and fits well with the story. All the inside details you created made the ship alive. I think it has too many strings/ropes but that is just me being silly, I would rather apply 100 LEGO stickers than tie ropes . Anyways! Congrats on your amazing entry I wish you success. Quote
