Franco Clarke Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 (edited) Apologies for not posting anything for quite a while, but I shall endeavour to rectify that. To start off a fat little merchant that I finished last year, aiming to make a reasonable looking vessel with just a single midsection. The tubby proportions lent themselves to building a merchantman, for the pirates chase and the soldiers to escort. The colourscheme was inspired by the sole trader from imtp, and I used a Thames Barge as the model for the rig and sail plan. Closer view of the stern, the small size lending itself to using the dragon arch as decoration. This was inspired by a build I saw a long time ago, I believe on this forum. Due to the need for deck space to stow goods, and the small size, there's not so much to see on the inside. A simple tiller for the poop deck, with stairs and doors below to the stern cabin. Four small 6 pounders comprise the armament, with most deck space devoted to a large hatch to the imaginary cargo hold. Up front a ladder leads to the base of the mast and crank for the anchor. That just about wraps up this rather simple build, hope you like it. Edited August 4, 2024 by Franco Clarke Spelling error. Quote
Jack Sassy Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 A lovely build! I like how simply elegant she looks. Even though ye mentioned that there isn't much to see inside, is there an interior nonetheless? Also, I did not know about that dragon arch's existence. Good job! Quote
Elephant Knight Posted August 4, 2024 Posted August 4, 2024 A very nice little chubby boat! Very old school looking, with the lack of tiling, and it makes me happy. I love the use of the dragon arch, it's a quick and simple way to get detail on a stern. My only complaint is it needs some sailors! That big studded deck is just asking to have some sailors on it! YellowFrog Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 (edited) The dragon archway is very nice. It's always good to see a crossover between two of my favourite themes: castle and pirates! Edited August 6, 2024 by YellowFrog Quote
Franco Clarke Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Thank you all, glad you liked the build and the arch. Unfortunately there's no interior, the stern is full of jumpers to manage the offsets as the ship narrows. There's certainly plenty of space for crew, but in usual service that deck space would be mostly taken up by cargo for maximum profitability. Quote

It's lovely to see the dragon arch back on a ship after so many years, nicely done! Quote
Franco Clarke Posted August 17, 2024 Author Posted August 17, 2024 Thank you, I'm pretty sure that lower one is what I was thinking of, the arched windows pair nicely with it. Quote
berninhr Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Lovely build! Kinda reminds me of the ships that would sail into Amsterdam just missing the leeboard keel. Quote
