-DoNe- Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 This model is a complete remodel of my quite recently completed BR01 . Once finished with the first iteration it never felt quite right. The proportions seemed way of and there was quite a lot of details I didn't get right. This time around it feels a lot better. It have gotten longer, taller and perhaps most notably; wider. The added width suits the rather wide proportions of the minifigures. It will also provide ampel space in the passenger car I've designed for this. Furthermore tests have been made on track and it seem to handle R104 without problem. While i'm most pleased with the current state of the model suggestions and tips are always welcome. I try to read up on whatever it is i'm building but the steam locomotives have quite a lot going on with them so the chances are that i've overlooked at least one detail of importance. ...since i'm using #7750 stickers it seemed fitting to add in a modern retake on the original minifigures. Pelzer117 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Wow. That's indeed a huge difference! Nice done 👍🏻 I personally think, this size of loco needs the XXL wheels, but it still works with the XL Quote
Ropefish Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Ah she’s absolutely gorgeous, I’d tend to agree on the wheel size it feels more right with a bit larger. Otherwise I think it’s a spitting image. Quote

I’ve ended up with XL drivers as I have some 15 axles of them laying around, they had to be used. 7 hours ago, Ropefish said: Ah she’s absolutely gorgeous, I’d tend to agree on the wheel size it feels more right with a bit larger. Maybe a V3 will come along. 😉 4 hours ago, Andy Glascott said: That looks fantastic! Thank you! Quote
Darkkostas25 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Gorgeous Engine, nice texturing with tiles on sides of tender, great small detailing alongside of the boiler (took maybe some ideas from you, coz they nice). Great model ! XL wheels looks also fine yeah XXL could be better but even with XL looks great and looong Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 One of my first locomotives and undoubtedly one of the most loved ...beautiful interpretation! Quote
Sven J Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 That locomotive looks really good! However, there are two things that, IMHO, could be improved: First, I'd give it a proper lettering. The 7750 touch is nice and nostalgic, but you've worked so hard on creating an accurate replica of the BR 01 that prototypical DB numbers and lettering would really put it in the "scale model" league. Second, the smoke deflectors are way too small and too close to the boiler. Correcting this would make the model even more outstanding. As for your surplus of XL wheels: Have you considered building a BR 41? For a 9-wide model, the XL wheels should be just about perfect... Quote

Perhaps something like this would add to the realism? As for the smoke deflectors. Should I make them larger in every directions or are they just to thin at the moment? I find them rather tricky as I want to maintain a sleek look. As for the BR41; I hadn't considered one until about now. That will be a fun project! Quote
Feuer Zug Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Brilliant work. The striking contrast between the red and black is perfect and the details spot on. Quote
Ferro-Friki Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Beautiful engine! I may not be familiar with the source material, but I can tell it does it justice. Quote

But you can make similar stickers by yourself quite easily; if you like, you're welcome to PM me to discuss further details. 14 hours ago, -DoNe- said: Should I make them larger in every directions or are they just to thin at the moment? I'd make them longer and 0.5-1 stud higher, if possible. Look at this drawing (sorry, didn't find a better one on the web, but can provide you with copies from my library, if you need): The smoke deflectors extend to the back of the chimney and cylinders, and they're about 1/2 of the boiler diameter in height. Can't wait to see your BR 41... Quote

Murdoch17 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 VERY nice work, and I love the throwback of using the older stickers! Quote
