erik1 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 (edited) Hi! I'm building an AT-AT in Bricklink Studio. I want it to be roughly in minifigure scale and have posable legs. So far I've finished the leg. I'll add updates here as I try to get it finished. Edited August 9, 2024 by erik1 Quote
Max_Lego Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Looks very nice, but... Will it work IRL? Anything beautiful can be constructed digitally, regardless of real-world physics. Can it be motorized? Aren't the legs too wide? Well, of course they look a million times better than on the official set, but still... As I said, it looks very nice, yet I still have questions... Also, IIRC, this looks very faithful to the original, unlike many 'beautiful' MOCs. Congratulations! Quote

I try to be mindful about it being sturdy IRL, but I guess it depends on how heavy it ends up being and how sturdy Lego is, which I'm not sure about, I haven't built with Lego since childhood. Maybe a great builder could figure it out how to motorize it, but I wouldn't have a clue. Yes, the legs are too wide, here's a render of the leg I couldn't figure out a way to use technic turntables in the joints while making the legs narrower unfortunetly. Quote

I guess it's okay - we have to compromise while building out of Lego more often than we think we do. My AT-ST feet are too thin, for example... Quote
erik1 Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 (edited) Most of the work on the panels is finished! It took me ages getting them to line up properly. There are still some minor things that need to be done, but they are 90% complete. I might change the snot surfaces, I'm not sure I'm happy with the way they look. The "exposed" parts in the back needs more details also. Edited August 14, 2024 by erik1 Quote
Chrome Vader Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 This is exciting to see come together! Will you build it IRL once the digital version is finished? Quote

erik1 Posted October 24, 2024 Author Posted October 24, 2024 (edited) I've re-designed the body, currently working on aligning the plates. It sure takes time to get them to align right... Edited October 24, 2024 by erik1 Quote
Max_Lego Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 I'm so glad you didn't give up on your AT-AT. Good luck! I hope it's going to be awesome Quote

erik1 Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 The internal structure and the way the walls fit togherer is almost finished. This has been a lot of work but it's going really well. The doors are also finished. The design for the door opening mechanism was taken from the official AT-AT. Quote
erik1 Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) Some progress on the interior. Unfortunetly it's way too big and spacious compared to how it looks in the cut-away artwork, due to my AT-AT being a bit too big. However on the plus-side, I think the AT-AT in the artwork is slightly too small compared to how large it looks in the movie, in the scene with Luke climbs it with the wire, so my AT-AT might not be as off as it seems at first...
