Just realized that the new wishbones can accomodate 2 of the largest shock absorders, steering, and drive axle!

You'll snap the plastic before those shocks will contract! :drunk:

I thought that the Chinese produced a defective product for Ferrari, and you say that the original ones are also very tight?

I guess you could replace one shock abroeber on each side with a medium linear actuator, for the adjustable ride height, however a worm gear arrangement may be better (with lots of bracing). The actuator should not compress the spring, and only change the wishbone angle.

I'm not sure I understand the thinking there. If you directly replaced a shock with a linear actuator, wouldn't you lose all suspension? Wouldn't the actuator take all the weight of the car, and prevent the shock from ever compressing? Or are you talking about something else

He is referring to the post that stated 2 shocks would side by side in the new suspension parts.

You could also change a shock with a pneumatic cylinder.

per side you would have a shock absorber and a linear actuator, but the actuator goes to a different place compared to where the shock absorber goes to, so therefore it does not compress the shock absorber nor does it limit it from compressing

Is anyone in the middle of building a totally brand-new front-end yet?

Good news and bad news. I guess some people are hoping I might give this model some extra "pimpage" on top of @jb70's excellent efforts... and yes I will, but... :cry_happy:

I've decided against buying the set. I'm just not looking forward to adding this BLO color to my collection. :ugh: Nevertheless I've ordered all the new generically useful parts, like suspension arms, gearbox parts, and A-pillars. :excited:

So I'll be building the P1 in Red (the least worst choice in terms of parts availability -- and I already have a ton of Red parts in my inventory). And while I'm at it, I'll extend the nose by a stud and create entirely new headlights, to my taste (which may include glow-in-the-dark :drunk:). I'll study the engine bay as well, see if that can be made more attractive. But I'm not eager to implement ride height adjustment... if anyone has concrete ideas on that front, do let us all know!

I'll share the results in due time :pir-huzzah2:

Where did you get the parts?, pick a brick usually has a 4+ month wait for new parts

Just BrickLink. Was lucky enough to find a domestic shop only shipping domestically, that had just parted out a P1 with reasonable prices. Since I live in a smallish country, that gave me a chance to order before it was all gone....

Great, will you make it where your new front end could be built in BLO though?

So why LEGO didn't do the W1 instead.. the launch is in 3 days:hmpf:

Because they wanted to go for a model that's well known and already has an iconic status, rather than just the newest.

Its a modern McLaren, it will look the same as all the others!

Ha! I had a conversation with a non-car person at the weekend about whether I'd ever seen a McLaren. I asked which one. He didn't realize there were lots, and then I had to admit that they all look the same.

If the leaks are accurate then Lego made the right choice going with the P1. The leaked photos look like a mix between a Lykan and a BYD, very underwhelming compared to the beautiful P1…

I agree with you, the P1 is the more beautiful choice. But from a technical aspect, the W1 were more interesting here. Hybrid-V8 but with AWD, would require a more complex drivetrain like in the Sian, which is maybe more interesting in the Technic theme.

Happy LEGO chose the P1. The W1 (revealed today) just isn't a looker, it's another "vanilla" hybrid hypercar and probably the most boringly-designed exterior for a million dollar hypercar yet along with Ferrari SF90.

Even with the incorrect nose, the P1 is just prettier and more timeless of a design.

I think the W1 looks rather sweet, though it might not have the same elegant body shape as the P1. Very happy LEGO went with the P1 anyway. Who knows, maybe we'll get a 1:8 scale W1 ten years from now? :)

Imo the actual model looks quite a bit better than the leaks! It’s a brutally aggressive looking car, but I still think it’s not as pretty as the P1..

Also, it would be really cool to see the spoiler mechanism recreated in Lego! B-model perhaps?

Ok, here's what I had in mind but where the springs and actuators are connected to a rocker  arm whose angle is adjusted by the actuator, which in tern, pulls or pushes on the spring but without compressing it, but it allows the spring to compress.

I just hope that the spring doesn bypass the saftey clutch in the acuator and therefore push the acuator in

I don't think it will because I just tried with my hands and theyre very stront, especically the V2 variant.

I didn't have the new wishbones so I improvised.

EDIT: I made the axle in LDCAD but lost my work since LDCADs session changer is very confusing as so which file is being closed or not, but I think I should just buythe wishbones anyhow, as its a pain to  align the parts in LDCAD and you cant test the mechanism/stuctural stability in LDCAD obvioustly
