SNIPE Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) Ok maybe these actuators are too long, and they would have to, by default, be extended a tiny bit, so would be even longer in order to pull the wishbones up... So I guess worm gear and spur gear + knob wheels. there will be 1:8 scale MOCs and non lego sets which have adjustable ride height that I can use as references. Another way might be to orient the actuators like the suspension on technic F1 cars, but keep the shock absorbers in the normal place but this would take up LOADS of space. Small linear acuators were out of the question since day -1 because they can be forced to retract by pushing the piston bit in with force, something which those big shock absorvers can definetley do. Another way, though the ways I've seen are not very reliable is to make a bi-rotational, but non back-driveable bevel gear set, but meshing a knob wheel with a 3 axle Y connector is not reliable enough. Timorzelorzworz Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Awesome digital Job! Thanks for making and sharing it. Quote
astyanax Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Great work @jb70, thanks!! No pressure whatsoever, just wondering: will there be a next version of the pimped model too? The question is relevant to me because my modification of the front is progressing well (IMHO) and I'm considering if I'll be able to use your pimped LDraw model as a basis for codifying my mods, as done with the Ferrari Daytona SP3 before. jb70 Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 (edited) And here is my next release Pimp up my McLaren v0.5: Digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd Building Instructions: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book1.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book2.pdf New features: I improved the shifting process by replacing the universal joints with strong CV joints between paddle shifter and gearbox. Now it works very smooth without any backlash. And I improved the door mechanism by replacing most of the involved friction pins with non friction pins or axles. I added some reinforcements to the main door hinge and the lock which catches the closing door and holds it in place. Now the door opens easy and precise, keeps well in opened position, is more stable (less wabbly) and the closing door will always be safely catched in place. Next steps: I will add some final renderings to the building instructions, create part list and publish v1.0 on https://rebrickable.com/users/jb70/mocs/ soon. Edited October 12, 2024 by jb70 Quote

Every year again its just impressive how fast they are made, especially the more complex ones like rims or curved panels. People (including me) rely heavily on this parts for model design and its not a matter of course to have them so quick. Thank you! Quote

astyanax Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Today is a beautiful day! Thanks @jb70. I'll be using these files as the basis for my additional cosmetic modifications, like in previous years. Caveat: my version will be Red, aimed at those like me, who can't be bothered buying the actual set in Bright Light Orange... Quote

If the leaks are real, then LEGO absolutely made the right decision. The P1 is miles better. Consider sometimes Lego has to work with the car company as part of licensing a vehicle and doesn't get 100% of the decision... Quote

How will you get the new panels, they dont come in red only flame yellowish orange The F.Y.O 11x15 frame can just be black I suppose. Also a couple of system parts dont yet come in red like the 6x1 slope, and parts 5404, 5654, and 4569 also dont come in red yet though 61409 does and you'll have to stack them to as to hide the half plate lip on the front at the bottom (use brackets) I have a few well braced ride height adjustment implementations from some third party technic sets, its just a matter of adapting them to fit into this car I also want to add working disc brakes as the ferrari/P1 rims allow for this unlike the GT3-RS / Chiron / Sian rimw Yes i'm sure people will say "oh you wont be able to fit such features in" but the thing is most people don't actually build on the limits of whats technically possible with LEGO because it requires creative techniques, unusual parts usage, and skill/knowledge as well as generally being harder to do. Until then I just use the 4x1 curved slope (11153). The convex curve is inaccurate, but it doesn't look bad. 20 hours ago, SNIPE said: I have a few well braced ride height adjustment implementations from some third party technic sets, its just a matter of adapting them to fit into this car Interesting, do you have any in virtual format? 20 hours ago, SNIPE said: Yes i'm sure people will say "oh you wont be able to fit such features in" but the thing is most people don't actually build on the limits of whats technically possible with LEGO because it requires creative techniques, unusual parts usage, and skill/knowledge as well as generally being harder to do. msiminski Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 I saw the built model in person for the first time at a Lego shop. Underwhelming I have to say. Nowhere near as good as CaDa's Mercedes nor Viva Hypercar. I still want it, but it would need to be at a very heavy discount. Lots of room for mods everywhere. Quote

Aiming to publish this side of Christmas. I'm still building, just finished the gearbox module. But here's a sneak peek of what my Red version will look like. With a wink to my friend Bruno for the headlights and exhaust... Inventory-wise, it's more of a mod of the Ferrari Daytona SP3... I couldn't be bothered to buy the official set -- I just don't care for that light orange. I do care for glow-in-the-dark headlights! Draft building instructions are ready. But not yet verified, as I'm still building. Currently debating myself whether or not to release said draft instructions already for feedback? Quote
thekoRngear Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 (edited) Great. It (necessarilly) looks far moar pleasing and cooler than what are coming as H1 2025 official sets (even if not all of them announced)! Edited December 2, 2024 by thekoRngear Quote

Hmm I think I’ll have to wait till I see it out of real bricks to make a final judgement. But so far I would say that some is looking better and some is looking worse. Model really suffers from not having all those LBO panels available in red. Commendable effort to find work arounds but I’m not sure that red was the right choice here. Some of those missing pieces will come in the Ducati, but still won’t help with the rear mudguard panel areas. Quote
