YellowFrog Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Hi all, I've been looking at the Historic Themes Banner recently, and I must say, I'm not a big fan of it. I mean this one here: I have a solution: I create what I imagine will be a better image. The only problem is that if I put in the work, I want to make sure it is used. Whoever has experience on this forum, I'm asking: would the higher-ups be open to change the banner if a popular and suitable alternative was proposed? I'm thinking something like a microscale landscape with castles dotted throughout, and some minifigs in the foreground. My plan for this is an ongoing project where I draft ideas, receive feedback from those who use this forum, and change the plan to match those ideas. I then would build, photograph, and pitch my alternative to the community on this forum. Should the majority support it, I would ask the higher-ups to make change. This whole process could take quite a while, bit hopefully we would get an inspiring and modern banner for the forum. Quote
MAB Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 What don't you like about it? I quite like the mix of historic and fantasy and a nice natural colour scheme. There are maybe too many CMF goblins in it and a few other similar characters may give slightly more breadth but overall it suits the sub-forum well. Quote
Artanis I Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 The banners are all getting a bit longer in the tooth, I don't think Hinckley is around these days. He never took too kindly to other people wanting to do these things either! I don't mind this particular one though. Quote
YellowFrog Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) I think it's looks old, messy, and outdated. The minifigures look juxtaposed on the background image, and its an unappealing composition. I agree that the colour scheme is fine, although a more neutral pallet would look better. Also, I would never try and lobby for a change unless the community supported it. In this case, I think the community would, as the current banner is not to everyone's taste (or mine, at least). Furthermore, the castles in the background aren't even made of Lego, and the editing makes the image look fake with different lighting on every layer. Edited August 31, 2024 by YellowFrog Quote
CastleRail Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 If you want to design a new one, feel free. But please don't say you'll only do it only if it will be used. Do it and if people like it then it can be considered. Quote

Yoggington Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 A forum I'm a member of does a banner change every month. A small (unprized) competition for bragging rights. Quote
SpacePolice89 Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I don't mind the current one but if you do change it please include some Black Falcon or other Classic Castle knights in the new one. Quote
Grover Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I don't mind the current one either, but I wouldn't mind a contest or even just someone making a banner and posting it, then letting people vote on adopting it or not. As for making it, I would suggest that should be a labor of love that you enjoy doing regardless of whether or not people eventually vote it in so that you aren't upset if it is not used, and that you get some enjoyment and fulfillment out of it regardless. BrickJagger Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I'm all for changing it! It could be fun to make it look like a Classic Castle box, with a few more modern knights included as well. Quote
