KDog Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 I sent a PM to another user today that had information that took me hours to write, then the other user accidentally deleted the message. And my sent folder has nothing in it. Is there a way the message can be recovered? Can a mod please help me with this ASAP? Thanks! Kevin
Jipay Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 You'll have to take hours to write again. The only option would have been for you to tick the "save the message to my folder" box. Once the message is deleted, it's not in our database anymore.

Like with Back2Life? I know it would be asking a lot, but I would certainly be grateful. If you were able to recover the file and copy and paste me the text even. Edited July 30, 2008 by KDog

If you were able to recover the file and copy and paste me the text even. It isn't a file, it's a record in a database. For security reasons databases are often designed to make record-by-record recovery hard... and I'm pretty sure that the only way for this can be done is to restore an entire backup of the site. Additionally, you are asking us to spend our time to save yours. It's happend to me before and I just took it on the chin.

Look, I just politely asked a favor that I hoped someone might be able or willing to grant. I didn't realize it would be such a time-consuming or difficult process to recover a file. Thanks for the response, but no need to get preachy with me. Edited July 30, 2008 by KDog
Hinckley Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 Look, I just politely asked a favor that I hoped someone might be able or willing to grant. I didn't realize it would be such a time-consuming or difficult process to recover a file. Thanks for the response, but no need to get preachy with me. Look yourself. All right, the question's answered, so I'll lock this up. Sorry you have to write the whole thing again. The best way to avoid this in the future is to check the box for "Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder" and that way the message will be saved and you won't have to write it again. You can't save all of them because you have limited memory for your PM storage, but you can save the long ones until you're sure your buddy read them. You can also get the other member's e-mail address and communicate that way instead. Most e-mail programs save a copy of the sent message nowadays. Hope this helped! Happy PMing
