Hi,

I recently bought a couple of old Pirates sets where the black strings for the sails are not the original. Where can I get the right black strings? Ideally in a roll.
I think I read somewhere that the strings were made by a local sub-supplier to Lego. Is that right and does anyone have a link to that vendor?

Thanks,
Joakim

Agree with @thewatchman - I would check the inventory listings for each set you have, and buy those strings from Bricklink. There are a lot of string lengths LEGO has made, in different sizes and diameters, so be sure to make doubly sure what you need is what you're looking at buying by cross-referencing to the inventories.

I bought the string used in this ship from a boating and fishing goods store. It is exactly the same color and dimension as the original Lego string only a bit more plastic in composition. It was placed next to the fishing nets in the store.

yeah, it's something like that I am looking for. Used strings on Bricklink and other places sometimes have some heavy wear. Do you happen to have a label, package or name of the manufacturer?

I bought it a long time ago but I think I've found it online

Paying $10 for a used piece of string on Bricklink is insanity.  I'm mostly a purist, but make an exception where sails and rigging are concerned.  Take a bit of string to your local fabric store and ask them what they have that's close.  Chances are you can get a good amount there for less than the cost of something off aliexpress, plus if you see it in person, you can match it.  My local store had something that's (as far as I can tell) identical and it was $3 for a roll.

I agree the prices are insanity.

However if I’m compiling a set, be it for resale or myself I want it to be as original as possible. I have a classic RMA car at home that’s close to 100 years old and getting an original fuel pump has been the true definition of pain.
