Wurger49 Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 The Phantom Menace was the first Star Wars movie I have seen on the big screen, and my first Star Wars toy was the Naboo N-1 Starfighter from the KFC kids meal, I am pretty sure that’s still somewhere at my parent’s place. Designing the N-1 starfighter brings back great nostalgia for me. Due the great service from Obi-Wan and Anakin, visiting Jedis can test fly the Naboo N-1 Starfighters against their Delta-7s or Eta-2s. One was repainted in the white and red colorway to represent the Galactic Republic for Jedi Bob. I started with the 2 engines and worked on how they would connect to the wings. After trying the axle connector and the thin technic beam, I decided to go with the thin technic beam as it’s sleek and black, doesn’t stand out from the engine pods. The downside is that the thin beams are easy to push out, reducing the sturdiness of the model. Nacelle domes are build using 2x2 round bricks and the black technic ski poles are used for heatsink finials. As there are no jumper plates, I had to offset 2x3 plates by half a stud for the rear center finial made by two 1x8 plates, brackets are used to fill in the gap left by the offset. The cockpit sits Jedi Bob comfortably because I used door rail plates to raise the canopy. The astromech sits on top of the cockpit. Delta wings form the front of the ship with a pair of centerline laser canons, the canons are actually lightsaber hilts. I arranged the white plates and tiles for the forward surfaces and red pieces for the back of the wings. Dark bluish grey tiles with the original stickers worked out perfectly for the section behind the laser canons. Spring loaded shooters have been built into the belly of the ship for play functionality. If you handle the model around the core fuselage, the structure is very sturdy, just be careful with the engine mounts. The end product is a nice sleek Naboo N-1 Starfighter, it’s much more minifigure scale compare to the massively oversize LEGO official Mandalorian N-1.
