Welp, at any rate I'm pretty confident the number of total technic bricks 1x3 with 3 holes made was not high, since there are like literally 9 of them used across the entire 2024 catalogue, in places where none is really necessary. I just find it curious is all. We'll likely see more of this part in 2025 though

Production runs are planned years ahead and the sets which this part was designed for are indeed probably coming in 2025 but the part was made available for designers already in this year so they went ahead and used it because why not.

I don't have time right now to read the whole thread :) but I agree with the OP's comment that modern technical sets have lost their edge. On the plus side, they still teach builders about how mechanical systems work, especially ones such as transmissions and suspensions -- just like I learned so from set 8860 in my childhood. But looks-wise, they're terrible in my opinion. I also hate the app lock-in.

I'm much happier building my own creations from the 1970s-1980s parts. :) That is why I founded the "Square Pistons" group on Facebook.

The friction pins that made 8865 nice and tight will make your fingers bleed. Anyone can get some and make their studless designs rock solid, almost as good as Kragle.

Which reminds me… TLG will pay me for evil antique friction pins and old grey studded beams? Sold!

What, with the LEGO Brick Take Back program? I've thought about that, but I dunno if its worth it for the amount I'm willing to trade in.

What is this program? I haven't heard that name anywhere

basically, to “keep as many bricks in play as possible”, they have started a take back program. You can weigh elegible legos and they’ll give you $6 to spend in their website per pound or $3.60 per pound, but it goes to your card. I’ve considered doing it, especially as I recently received a bulk Lego order. I can just send back the ones I don’t need/want.

Huh, interesting. Can't say I like the idea of a program like that. I mean, I don't know what Lego would be doing with the parts, but it seems to be doing the opposite of "keeping bricks in play" by taking perfectly good parts out of circulation! Plus it doesn't sound like nearly as much money as you could get on the open market.

Anyways, I guess we're drifting from the topic at hand!

I guess they mean any unused legos out there.
One thing im curious about (this is for the actual thread) is which large turntable is better: the old one or the new one? I know that the old one can be driven by a 8t gear, but is it stronger than the new one?

In my experience, the old one has significantly less friction, but it's also much easier to disassemble, so probably not as strong.

Oh yeah, by Technic "going back" I definitely didn't mean returning to the oldest friction pins hahah

Those were absolutely brutal. But according to Rebrickable, we're like on the 4th revision of the friction pin already, honestly not sure they needed to go past the  first revision where they added the slots. I do have some of those old ones in my 80s Technic sets and the difference is serious
