You might have to explain that a bit better. You apply it to the tape in water, then to the minifig? Won't it still be wet? How does it dry?

https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/91225-how-to-diy-decals/

This tutorial (although the images are gone) is the process I use. The image is printed onto paper, the clear tape is placed over the image and rubbed down hard. Then the paper+tape are submerged in warm water, in time the paper easily rubs off the tape leaving the image on the tape. You then simply place the still wet tape onto the torso, sliding it around until it's aligned. It dries and stays on quite well, but isn't permanent, you can peel it off no problems.

Thanks! Was as simple as you first said. I'll try it out sometime.

I'm somehow comforted that these results are almost exactly what I would have expected. Especially if you consider that the Blacktron vote is effectively split in half. Glad to see Ice Planet getting the votes it deserves.

I'm mostly surprised about SP1 scoring relatively low among the popular group.

Same here, with the amount of SP1 MOCs and stuff online I thought more people would've voted for SP1. So far 36 people have voted and maybe this group is too small to get completely accurate results? Or is Blacktron interfering with the election?

I loved SP1, possibly more than M-Tron.
First faction to use the longer canopies (I loved those), awesome color theme imho, and some beautiful ships too including one with 9V lights that I own(ed). The big mothership was always on my wishlist but never made it to my collection.

Funny how the two most popular themes besides Classic Space can't be done right anymore because of the neon colors going away. I'd almost say that's a major part of the reason they went away.

I absolutely loved the neon colors as a kid, and kinda still do. Is it somehow no longer appealing to younger generations?
But even without neon, they made good color themes back then. BT1 was simple but lived up to its name, and was unlike anything we had seen before with even black visors. For SP1, the red & blue combined with black just worked really well as a police color theme. It was a great time for Space for sure.

I thought UFO was more liked...

Well, everyone can just make one vote, so because someone voted for something else he can still like UFO too. I kinda like all Lego Space themes, but of course I do like some better than others, though I would have big problems to really rank them.

Its a multiple choice poll.

Is Spyrius the most underrated Space subtheme? Their sets are very unique with the robots, especially 6949 Robo Guardian which is one of my favorite Space sets.

Oh yeah, I remember that robot. Definitely a cool set. But the other sets aren't that special and the overall colour scheme isn't that great. It feels like a worse version of M-Tron. Still good of course, but given that M-Tron is such a beloved theme, it's just an extremely high bar to compare against.

Spyrius just never appealed to me for various reasons. First I was into space ships, and preferably in the ways previous themes had approached those. Second, it immediately bugged me to see inconsistency in transparent part usage. Some ships had dark blue canopies, the robot had a red canopy, the visors were neon green. Little details like that always catch my attention fast. And third, it was unclear to me what the whole theme was about. Like Blacktron were the bad guys. SP was self explanatory. M-Tron and Ice planet really showed what they were about. I'm sure Spyrius had cool sets but I always needed a bit more to get drawn in.

I think designs after Ice Planet just weren't as good. I consider the Star Hawk II to be possibly the worst Lego spaceship design.

As for Spyrius windscreens, I think both robots had trans red, so maybe they were trying to be consistent with spaceship vs robot colors. But still, I also prefer more unified color schemes.

Really? I don't mind the Star Hawk II that much. There were worse. Personally, I have never been a fan of the Deep Freeze Defender for example. I loved the Ice Planet theme, but that ship was always ugly to me. But I guess it would have been a great set to build my own creations from. In hindsight, I also quite like the UFO sets. They came out after my younger self had moved on from Legos, so I never even noticed these sets until many years later, but they were solid IMHO. As for Unitron, again this was after my "active years", but I guess I would have liked it. Looks like it was a bit of a failed attempt at reviving Futuron, but it had a monorail, so there's that.

Yep.

The slopes on each side of the windscreen look like rock formations. The weird ramp thing behind the thruster makes no sense. Whatever the trans blue walls on the wings are supposed to be, I dunno, but they are super bulky on top. The whole thing is a mess.

I agree. But even before that, I found SP2 a big disappointment too. First impression they were nice on the outside, but they felt like seriously lacking on the inside.

I loved it, but have to confess I was never a big fan of dual cockpit designs in general.
SP1 Mission Commander remains an alltime favorite of mine, with the unique design of tilting up the cockpit and driving out. As well as the general looks of the ship as a whole. While it definitely wasn't perfect, considering that this mechanic occupied the entire middle section of the ship. Still hope to one day own this ship and design a small Technic mechanic for this, and then make a functional mid section of the ship that can host more police officers or sort of a command center.

I remember, when SP2 came out, being very upset that they changed the colors. I think because of the color changes, for both SP2 and Blacktron 2, I kinda checked out of Lego until Ice Planet.

I honestly loved the BT2 color theme... just not for the BT faction, being shown as dark and evil the first time. Had they used it on a new mining or research faction it would have made more sense to me.

That's basically how I felt. I didn't mind the colors themselves. If SP2 was just a different faction it would have been fine.

I had much more issues with SP2 besides not being a fan of the color theme (which is personal of course). As said before, the lack of detail and practicality above all.

Take the big Galactic Mediator mothership for example. First impression: looks good. The front section is for the pilot, so far so good. The rear is for the rover, I can accept that. But what is the middle supposed to be? It's open on the front and the rear, and it has 1 computer printed slope sitting on the floor. I mean what the heck?? And what about the upper canopy on the front, there's no seats or anything in the area underneath it. And speaking about the double canopy design, it looks cool but isn't practical at all with the pilot under the lower one. Yes, I care about such details. And they really overdid it with the amount of "Space Police" printed slopes and tiles.

Some issues affected smaller vessels too, like the general cockpit detail. You see there's only a single computer printed slope for control, and it's a minifigure's length out of reach of the pilot. How do these people fly? Mind control?
Also overall, the theme seems to be lacking transparent pieces to represent lights. The canopies and windows are like the only transparent parts. I can accept that for a research or exploration faction, but not for a police one.

-- End of rant.
