  1. 1. What is your favorite Space faction? This is a multiple choice question. I know it is difficult to choose because they are all great but try to choose your very favorites.

SP1 Mission Commander remains an alltime favorite of mine, with the unique design of tilting up the cockpit and driving out. As well as the general looks of the ship as a whole. While it definitely wasn't perfect, considering that this mechanic occupied the entire middle section of the ship. Still hope to one day own this ship and design a small Technic mechanic for this, and then make a functional mid section of the ship that can host more police officers or sort of a command center.

Yup, as I said above, the SP1 ships were my alltime favourites. Both Mission Commander and the SP-Striker. The fact that I'm not a fan of the double cockpits is the main reason I never liked the Deep Freeze Defender. I mean it is the defining feature of the set. The great Ice Planet theme cannot nullify that. But even if one were to reduce it to one cockpit, the overall shape of the thing is also not very good either, with the two sets of small wings and the bulky, rectangular back.

The slopes on each side of the windscreen look like rock formations. The weird ramp thing behind the thruster makes no sense. Whatever the trans blue walls on the wings are supposed to be, I dunno, but they are super bulky on top. The whole thing is a mess.

I still don't see anything exceedingly ugly with that ship. The strange tail-end is a bit weird, but that's it. The colour scheme is fine. I guess if you're not a fan of the forward facing wings, you won't like it, but I kinda like the idea. In fact, back then, I took apart my Galactic Mediator and built a ship with a similar wing design out of its parts, only it was a bit bigger. Though I see your point regarding the bulky sides of the thing. I never owned it, but I could imagine that the angle of the photo here is its best looking side. If I rotate it in my mind and look at it from the front, I suppose it won't look nice. Still not the worst in my book though.

As I said, I really liked the Ice Planet theme, but the set designs weren't great. The Deep Freeze Defender might just be the ugliest ship of them all.

I guess as a kid, I really would have wanted to have this one. :laugh: Which is why I made it now as an adult.

I thought SP2 was incredible. Particularly the capital ship...

Also, the Star Hawk II is the sleekest of the old spaceships!

But agreed about the Deep Freeze Defender, the rear section is a great big square box that doesn't fit nicely with the rest of the ship and its sleekness, no matter what configuration you use.

Nice copy of the Hoth Snowspeeder there. :vader:

Ice Planet 2002 - I love every set in this series, sans the Blizzard Baron. The Deep Freeze Defender is in my top 3 favorite sets ever.

Runners Up;

1. Exploriens - I love the main ship, it's completely unlike anything that came before it, along with a solid bunch of other sets.

2. M-Tron - I like this series a lot, although I prefer the ground vehicles and wish the whole series was specifically ground vehicles.

3. Blacktron II - this might contain my favorite base set, at least one that doesn't have a monorail. This is the opposite of M-Tron where I don't like the ground vehicles at all.

4. Space Police II - this also has a great large ship, despite it's basic design, I love it.

5. Futuron - so many unique sets big and small...it was a little before my time but overall a great series with very few misses. The Strategic Pursuer is just a neat little set in and of itself.

6. I don't really *count* these as the same thing, but the Insectoids were awesome, but they don't fit in with anything else. The only ugly off-putting set was the Celestial Stinger.

Outside of that, I've hardly bought any other sets. The original Space sets were just sort of there, long before my time..so they never attracted me to them. The first Blacktron was kind of weak due to the color schemes, I didn't really like the first Space Police either. Spyrius was cool, but too gimmicky to fit in with the other series, and I also really find that base to be cheap and ugly to look at. Unitron was an absolute joke other than the monorail. UFO may have been cool if it didn't have ugly color schemes, but like the Insectoids, they just don't fit in. And the Dino Raiders had one good set and a bunch of fluff.
