Welp, here she is!

Background:

The Scalawag started as an attempt to get effective hull curves on a smaller frame, and I think I've nailed it. Originally, I had 1x6x3 1/3 (part 6060) arches for the front, but those weren't available for the BDP, but using round plates and tiles worked out.

Some of my favorite pirate ships have been smaller form: the original Imperial Guard Flagship (6271), the Renegade Runner (6268), the Armada Flagship (6280). This was an attempt to make a ship that fused those with the smaller ship type from the IGTP and Eldorado.

I also wanted a ship that could populate some of the harbors we have (Eldorado, Tortuga, and Barracuda Bay). Essentially, I wanted to "add" masts/sails to those ports. So the ship needed to be small enough to dock there without overwhelming the port.

Speaking of Barracuda Bay, I wanted a sloop that can interact with the harbor. Not everyone could get 2 copies of it. One extra note: this ship should easily fit the gaff/jib PoBB sail if you want to go all cloth. And those are the easiest sails to leave out of the bay anyway.

I tried to keep the overall aesthetic in line with TLC. I didn't want it to look like a crazy moc next to PoBB or Eldorado.

Rudder is controllable from a tiller up top.

Note the gentle upward slope of the stern. I don't think it's illegal, it was approved after all! The build is solid and stable, through and through. It should be playable, though the cannons can be a little weak.

There will be stickers to add patches to the hammock piece. And yes a figure can sleep in the hammock with the stern deck in place!

How would a pirate decorate his sleeping quarters? I don't think this one will be approved, but it's worth a shot!

Here's a back-up incase the other is too racy!

The build is pretty stable. I'm waiting on a bricklink order to confirm that the stays support the mast well enough, but the mast design was based on Lego's 3 in 1 Viking Ship, so the theory is sound. The curved hull is sturdy enough to allow figures to connect to it; it isn't overly fragile.

Let me know what you think! And please vote here:

A wonderful little support vessel for the Barracuda! The use of the bananas is brilliant, and looks pretty good!

The only bit of criticism I can offer, is the attachment for the staysail in the front looks a bit... janky. I feel there may be a better way, but if stabilty is what you are after, that may be difficult.

I can not unsee the banana decoration at the bow of the ship haha.

Overall it's such a nice little sloop! I like how the angled sides of the stern are build. The classic colors work well. It looks much more like a real ship and so much better than the Eldorado Fortress merchant ship! Great job and good luck fpr the BDP voting :thumbup:

Thanks!

It IS janky.

Originally I mounted it parallel with the bowsprit (similar to the 3 in 1 Pirate ship), but I hated the angle.

The new method is very sturdy, has a pleasant angle, is remarkably simple (two liftarms), but looks absolutely ridiculous from behind. I'd love to come up with a new way, but couldn't figure it out in time.

@Yperio_Bricks Lol! The bananas are one of my favorite parts, especially since the classic colors keep them yellow! Thanks!

Beautiful ship!! Really good how you've managed to make it look like an official ad-on to the current Pirate "line" but also very much something unique. Great little ship

Very nice! You definitely achieved your goal of getting some good curves into such a small ship. It has a lot of character. And the brick-built sails look good, too. Inspiring! :pir-thumb:

I had called this out as one of my faves over in the Bricklink thread before seeing it here. Looks really great and if it got through, would be the first Bricklink model where I'd be considering buying two copies - that's how good it is!

The almost ideal pirate ship - (theoretically) affordable, yet looks fascinating and is beautifully done. Brick-built sails are awesome. I'm sorry that I didn't vote for it on Bricklink - I discovered it late...

Have these stickers come into fruition?

The stickers have not, maybe sometime, they're just so darn small it's ridiculous to make them/cut them!

I was actually just thinking of you irl. Unfortunately, you were right about the designer program. The lack of Spanish headgear kills it. BUT! Your comments about the Armada Flagship on the Pirate Sloop wishlist have been bouncing around in my brain for MONTHS. They have given rise to a BDP Castle Galleon I have in the works. Which will be an Armada design in everything but the color and decor.

It'll be converted to Don Diego's fleet afterwards. Maybe we could get some custom fabrics made available from an online vendor?

Can we get the "castle" part out of it and make it more piratey? :pir-grin:
