evancelt Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Still need to clean them up a bit, but CNC-carved sand red masonry bricks (carved from normal 1x2 bricks) Quote
Aanchir Posted October 25, 2024 Posted October 25, 2024 Whoa! That is very cool, and a very resourceful use for a CNC machine! I'm sure some folks would be aghast at the idea of cutting into bricks in a retired color like Sand Red, but as long as you manage to put these modded parts to good use, I'd say your efforts have been well worth it. I hope you'll share a link here if you end up using them in a MOC! Quote
evancelt Posted October 30, 2024 Author Posted October 30, 2024 Listed these up for sale on the RMM site: https://www.rockymountainminifigs.com/product/limited-edition-carved-masonry-profile-brick/ Quote
Yoggington Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 It's cool to see these bricks, but good grief at that pricing. Quote

Yes, they aren't for everyone and are more of a novelty than a castle-builder! Sand red bricks cost between $1-$2 each plus shipping to source, plus CNC costs and time spent. We're making about 20% profit on each brick at this price. Quote

Pretty soon, anyone sitting on a pile of these will be sitting on a gold mine! (thought it might a bit uncomfortable to sit on Lego in the first place! ) Quote
Agent Kallus Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 These are really good match. I do hope that sand red makes a comeback. Quote

Oh I understand where you're coming from alright, but it's just way outta my league. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Sand red issues aside, have you considered milling a masonry pattern into 2x2 corner (2357) piece? Or adjacent faces of a 1x1 (3005) ? I could use a good end cap/corner exposed solution in about half a dozen different colors (tan, light bley, dark bley, sand green, dark red, etc) and the base stock are readily available. Quote

Corner masonry bricks already exist from other companies and i guess they would be a lot cheaper than producing these bricks in a small CNC production run. Quote

I guess I'm just a Lego-purist at heart, I'm told that the quality of clone brands have improved a lot in recent years but I'd still rather have a genuine Lego part (even a customized one) than mixing in third party stuff.
