Mine is 6886 Galactic Peace Keeper. It is my favorite for both objective and nostalgic reason, It was one of my first Space sets I got as a kid (back then I only knew it as "Rymdpolisens Spaningsskepp" from the Swedish catalogs), I was then very young, probably below the recommended age limit but I preferred Lego over Duplo. My dad bought me this set and we built it together on the living room floor. I love the design of the ship and the colors and the minifigs are fantastic. It can be seen in the picture below in the lower left corner parked under the monorail.

SPACESHIP!! SPACESHIP!! SPACESHIP!!

Sorry, but what I meant is that I've built three of Benny spaceship. (70816) One a heavily modified original set, one in Blacktron I colors, and one for my custom space theme in orange and white.

So that's my choice, unless we are not counting non-space space sets. If we are being super strict, then Squidman escape (5969) because Squidman. (no further explanation will be given)

If I have to pick only one out of the sets that I've actually owned, I'm gonna have to go with 6781 Space Police Striker. I loved it even more than the Monorail at the time, and being a Police theme I felt like the 9V lights system was a great addition to this set.
6986 Mission Commander was the one I always wanted but never had.

An excellent choice! You can see the Space Police Striker in the background in my picture (with the lights on).

I think Benny's Spaceship is definitely a Space set because of the color scheme/style and the fact that Benny is a classic spaceman.

Choosing only one is difficult.

Today I choose Alien Moon Stalker.

That is a very beautiful set! I agree that choosing only one is difficult. At first I thought about asking people about their favorite sets but then I realized that I would myself list at least 10-15 sets if asked that question and therefore settled for only one single set.

That's an interesting topic! 👍

Although I sadly don't own this set, my favourite Space set would be 6987 Message Intercept Base because it's the biggest and imo best looking Space base Lego had released so far. I really, really hope that Lego will give us a redesigned version of this excellent set in the near future.

Great question, which made me realise just how few space sets I own! Of those I don't, I've always loved the Mega Core Magnetiser, and if it counts, the Technic VTOL ship that's currently on shelves.

But I'm a sucker for the Life on Mars sets for nostalgia reasons, so my favourite is probably 7315 Solar Explorer. Honourable mention to 5981 Raid VPR too, which I loved and was my introduction to the Vic Viper concept.

Either the modern Galaxy Explorer or the Robot Command Center from CS

The day the squidman head mold was discontinued was the day LEGO died if we're being honest

If I had to pick just one I would say the original 918 single-seat spaceship. It's perfectly sleek, simple, swooshable, and easy to build and rebuild. When pulling a set out of storage for a relaxing evening build I tend to go for smaller, simpler sets over larger, more complex ones, so I've built and rebuilt my 918 more often than my 924 or 928. Also, you can make a little squadron of 918s more easily than you can make a squadron of 928s.

'The Day the Squidman Died' sounds like it should be a parody of the song 'American Pie' by Don McLean.

That should exist.

Surprised Squidman isn't in LEGO Legacy tbh, I remember the designers being pretty proud of him, thought he'd have caught on more as a LEGO character

Of the ones I own (which isn't many) I think I'd say 21109: Exo Suit but it was the most fragile set I've ever had but it's quite nostalgic for me. I think it's one of the first sets I when to buy in the Lego shop on it's release day.

Reducing it to one is tough. I'd be tempted to say 497 Galaxy Explorer but just nudging it to first place would be 6927 Mobile Tracking Station/All-Terrain Vehicle.

To me, 6927 covers my two favourite Classic Space eras: the blue/grey/trans yellow of the late '70s and the black & white of the early '80s. The set also has what could be the smartest play feature in any LEGO set. When you open/close the retainers at the back of the ATV, the Tracking Station slides down/gets smoothly pushed up as if by hydraulics.

I don't still have my 6927 from the 1980s, but I did recreate the set from parts I had and ones I bought on the secondary market 10 years ago. It remains - and will remain - part of my Classic Space display collection.

Here it is from my collection:

I only discovered the 6927 All Terrain Vehicle a couple years ago but it has definitely grown on me as one of my favourite sets of the era. The condition of those minifigs are amazing, most of my whites ones have no planet left on them.

The prints were fine but the red one, unfortunately, had an almost imperceptible crack on the side of the torso and a tiny nick on the helmet. I have since retired it to my reserve collection and substituted a perfect one from 10497 Galaxy Explorer instead.

I was lucky enough to get pretty much perfect prints for all the parts.

The only parts of the vehicle that aren't exactly right are the white modified plates to which the red lights at the front are attached. At some point, that part was redesigned by LEGO to make it sturdier and mine are the slightly thicker, more robust, newer kind. The difference is hardly noticeable though and only a real aficionado would know.

Classic, of course.

Unless I misunderstand you, that's just a sub-theme, not a specific official set from within the Space theme.

6990 Monorail. I don't understand why none of the competitors sell monorail parts. In my perception the monorail is one of the most sought after classic systems. So much wasted potential.
