Posted November 3, 2024Nov 3 A couple of weeks ago I got my hands on the 10330 Senna F1 Icons set. Its new suspension arms and a bunch of 49.6x28 tyres I found while rearranging my parts collection got me into designing F1 cars again - about 20 years after my last attempt. This is what I managed to build in two nights' time. Some parts are still quite rare such as 1x6 slopes in lbg + black and 2x8 curved slope in lbg. So I will try to finish the digital model first before ordering the missing parts. Some building techniques are obviously very similar to those used in 10330. Of course there will be no functions apart from steering. Most probably I need to create some custom decals to get a proper look. And hopefully I can come a lot closer to the original than 10330 managed to. (Please note: that misplaced 2x3 Nexo Knight tile is a rendering error by studio.)
November 3, 2024Nov 3 Love it! Instantly recognisable as a late 90s/early 00s McLaren. Can’t wait to see your progress on this one.
November 10, 2024Nov 10 Author @HTM Thank you very much! A short update: - I added some details mainly to the rear end and amended the front part very slightly. - The ground clearance at the front looked perfect but there was too much ground clearance at the rear half of the car. Also the sidepods are 11.5 plates high. So I decided to lower them by half a plate to get the top edge "in system" and reduce ground clearance by half a plate. Although I only build parts of the model in real life to test stability it is already quite sturdy even without thoese new suspension arms. I am still searching for some elegant connections to increase stability of the rear spoiler and side wings though. - It turns out that some details cannot be recreated at this scale. The new suspension arms are too thick and thus sit too high to cover them partly by tiles or wedge plates (rear axle). So I decided against any form of cover. Also the part behind and next to the cockpit cannot be recreated too well. I will rather go for smooth looks than authenticity here.
