nerdsforprez Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 So it has been a long time since I have bought an actual set. Long time member, and I have built up quite a collection, and I mostly MOC. But there is a set I want to actually buy! So fairly excited. Reason for this post is that I don't know anymore the best time to buy. WHen 2x or 3x points are given, or when the best time for bonus sets is. Thoughts? Quote

Also, I've never seen 3x points as far as I know, and 2x events are kinda rare. My guess is to go with a GWP you want, but be aware they sell out really fast these days and they don't really announce them in advance much anymore... gone are the days when you would know four months in advance what GWP was coming via a store flyer. Overall, the best times to buy are during double Insiders Points events, when desirable GWPs are available, and when there are sales at other retailers (Amazon, Target); sales usually happen closer to the end of a set’s lifespan, so watch those retirement dates! MAB Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Buy when there is a good GWP from LEGO or when there is a good discount from another retailer if it is not an exclusive. If you don't buy often, then I wouldn't prioritise getting Insiders points, as you have to place further orders to use them. Quote
Mylenium Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Agree with the others. If you buy so rarely, it probably isn't even worth pondering over it. Just get whatever you want at the cheapest price and/ or when there's a good deal with some extras thrown in like with the upcoming "Endurance" set where in theory you could get three GWPs. (now you're lucky if you get leaks two months early) The Milky Way set. I want to buy at least 2 and make a larger version. Perhaps even add another color. I also think there is some modifications that could improve it. While I love the darker blue at the bottom and off to the right, I think adding some above to the outer most ring would look great as well. Yea, I think you are right about the GWP. I just missed out on the P1 Logo GWP, which is a same. Not excited about the current GWP, so I will wait. I could have swore I saw a 3x points offer before, but don't quote me on it. Thxs for your response. 3 hours ago, MAB said: Buy when there is a good GWP from LEGO or when there is a good discount from another retailer if it is not an exclusive. But I'll look for the next GWP I like. 4 hours ago, Classic_Spaceman said: Which set is it? Milky way set. Mentioned this already, but I want to buy two and create a larger, more detailed one Quote
nerdsforprez Posted November 9, 2024 Author Posted November 9, 2024 So, another question for the group.... Wow... I have been out of the game for too long!! I see on the insider points page that there are all sorts of free gifts one can buy with their insider points. But the one I am looking at "World of Wonders" is out of stock. Anyone know if these come back in stock with time, like regular sets do? Quote

But it might be different for sets compared to the coins, keychains, etc. Quote

As far as I remember the World Wonders were already restocked in the past, same as the ride Sets came back, after some of them were sold out for quite some time - however, I am sure there will be a point where they will get retired, though it is hard to say when. If you haven’t bought them already, you may want to avoid getting them from a LEGO store or lego.com and focus instead on other retailers where they’re more likely to be discounted. I haven’t been following this particular set closely but my feeling is that it hasn’t sold particularly well. That would mean it’s more likely to be discounted. It’s RRP/LEGO store price is £170 but it’s currently on Amazon at £155. My hunch - and please don’t hold me to this - is that it’ll be further discounted in January as retailers seek to make space for the 2025 releases. I used the wait-for-a-discount-because-I-don’t-think-this-will-sell-well strategy with a couple of recent purchases and managed to snag one for 33% off and another for 50%. (I also had loyalty scheme incentives from a couple of retailers so my cash spend was even less when combined with the discounts). Quote

I am in the US so we don't get all the deals you guys do on amazon in Europe. But, that being said, I really don't mind buying from Lego.com or stores. I like the points program and I always get several little goodie sets along with it. I know alot of folks like the discounted approach, but the GWP on a 200 plus set usually end up worth 25-30 bucks and the points add a few more. Quote
BREAKEUR Posted January 4 Posted January 4 (edited) The best time to buy depends on a number of factors, but if you want to take advantage of bonus points and free sets, the end of the year (Black Friday, Christmas) and sales periods are often the best times. If you want special discounts, watch for end-of-life periods or end-of-year promotions. If you're looking to maximize your loyalty points, wait for the 2x or 3x points events that occur several times a year. 192.168.100.1 192.168.1.1 Edited January 7 by BREAKEUR Quote
