Governor Mister Phes Posted November 9, 2024 Governor Posted November 9, 2024 On 31 October, 2024 5008945 Treasure Chest was announced as an upcoming Gift With Purchase. Then during the livestream for 10355 The Endurance, a couple more Black Friday sets, which may appeal to LEGO Pirate fans were announced, 5009045 Chronometer and 6550800 Barracuda Seas. These sets will be available as LEGO Insider rewards, so be sure to register for the LEGO Insider Reward Program to be eligible to acquire them, or access their official webpages. As always, an in depth blog post provides more images and details. But here's a quick overview: 5008945 Treasure Chest Probably a touch large for your LEGO Pirates but you may like to have this sitting on yer shelf as a decorative ornament. The official LEGO.com 5008945 Treasure Chest webpage is available to LEGO Insider members. 6550800 Barracuda Seas A micro scale ship inspired by the Black Seas Barracuda. 5009045 Chronometer Long before GPS was a thing, sailors used timekeeping instruments known as chronometers, which were used to determine longitude by means of celestial navigation. ` The official LEGO.com 5009045 Chronometer webpage is available to LEGO Insider members in select regions. * all links to LEGO.com are official affiliate links provided for your convenience Quote
Murdoch17 Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) @Mister Phes I think the description for the Chronometer is wrong... either that, or that's the strangest ship I've ever seen! Edited November 9, 2024 by Murdoch17 Quote

Ok, the description is fixed! There were three official announcements in as many days, so I've been up until 4AM trying to keep on top of all the news. But I think everything is covered now... Quote

The picture you posted for the Treasure Chest is actually the Chronometer. Quote

thewatchman Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade here and I’m happy so many people seem to like these sets but they are literally everything wrong with legos current business model. Making vaguely themed mini builds that are lame duck copies of pre-released sets (ship in a bottle / dnd mimic dice box) is lazy; and locking them behind insider reward points purchases is just plain garbage. (Not that id buy them if they were available on shelf anyway) lego seem to be suffering from the same problem that the movie / tv industry and maybe even video games industry to an extent is. A lack of originality, leading to constant remakes of older sets purely for nostalgia points (castle / pirates) or just constantly remaking the same set they made 5-10 years ago (Star Wars / superheroes) I’m just glad we have the bricklink designer sets now, because even if lego did another pirates run, I don’t actually trust them to produce anything of any value or any interest, and if the latest cmf “pirate” is any indication I’m happy the theme is retired. There weren't any new concepts or significant innovations... they were designs similar what we'd seen before, only executed using contemporary building techniques. Really it's about playing it safe and doing what worked well in the past, hoping to achieve the widest appeal. That's probably enough for the casual consumer, but us long term fans want to sail into uncharted waters. Quote

karrit Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I got a code too. I grabbed the Backpack for 100 points also. Hoping I still have enough points if they do reduce points vouchers for Black Friday, though apparently they vouchers are a thing of the past now. Quote

Overall it is a nice little build and I like the printed gold plaque. The box is a generic yellow box and the instructions show through a cutout to make the picture on the front. If one were to spend their vip points on a discount instead of this set I think it would be about $18USD. Pirate ship gift with purchase by Captian Bubbles, on Flickr Quote

Doddsino Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I like the idea of the little treasure chest, but something seems off about it. Perhaps some texture on the outside or even print would make it look a little better. Quote
