[OFFICIAL] Pirate Quartermaster - Collectible Minifigure Series 27

So apparently some shops are already selling the new CMF wave, one of the Reddit users bought a whole box and started posting photos of each fig.

The new Pirate minifig below, for now taken from the insert page, but I'm waiting for him to send me a photo of the minifig once he finds one, he got quite a few duplicates of other minifigs, I guess the Pirate one will be quite rare?

I love the bird and the torso, dual molded arms look great too. Not a big fan of the hair piece. Cool to see the short skirt.

Mid sized legs

awful fabric skirt

terrible hair mold

how is this a quartermaster? Hipster bird handler with knife accessory seems more applicable.

Honestly without the sword would anyone actually think this is a pirate?

Maybe some ren fair visitor? :pir-grin:

The hair can be changed, but I was unsure about the legs. Now that you also identify the legs as mid sized legs, i question why they decided to use them?!

Looks more like a gypsy/ fortune teller to me. I was expecting something else .At least the wolfpack looks great.

Good call on the visitor thing. :pir-triumph:
I don't mind a larger variety of mid-sized printed legs. In comparison to the normal-sized ones they're fairly rare, certainly for in medieval and pre-modern settings.

Legs are not mid-size; the leaflet is bent at the bottom, which makes her (and Steampunk guy) look short.
The quality of the fabric skirt remains to be seen, but I like it (and it is a nice reassurance that capes are not going to be entirely rubber from here on!); also, it does not appear to be so critical to the design that it cannot be removed if you so choose.
The hair is not bad (and it does work for a pirate), but I do wish that we had actually gotten a new mould instead of a City/Friends part reuse.
The "Quartermaster" name came from the initial text leak (which may not have even originally been in English!), so the intent may have been something more akin to "Tavern Wench" (which fits her vibe better).
She is wearing a skull-and-crossbones medallion on her necklace and has a compass tucked into her belt, so yeah, I think so!

The printed boot tops are weird too.

The pic is blurry, but I assume that the leg printing is meant to represent the folded tops of pirate boots (or loose fabric pants being tucked into boots).

A cockatoo?

Interesting choice of avid for a pirate but will make a compelling backstory.

I love it! The sword is blocking a lot of detail on the torso; I didn't notice the compass tucked into her belt. Looks like some cool layered belt styling there too.

Regarding the complaints that she looks like a fortune teller/hipster/ren fair visitor I counter that there's a heck of a lot of overlap with those costumes and pirate wear. ;)

As for having the quartermaster "look", pirate quartermasters were elected by the crew from among their own ranks, so there wouldn't be an established "look" for a pirate quartermaster. She was selected by her crewmates to represent their interests, maintain discipline, see to the ship's operation, and keep the captain in line. :) No wench here!

Or maybe the crew decided a wench was the best way to keep the captain in line? :pir-classic:

She seems plenty pirate-y to me. Bandana, gold skull-and-crossbones necklace, motley-colored outfit with period-appropriate materials and fastenings, leather boots, compass, coin purse, parrot, cutlass, etc. Some battle scars or tattoos might have helped to take the pirate look one step further, but overall I think she fits in very nicely with other Pirate minifigs. Perhaps even more so than the Series 20 Pirate Girl, who to me reads a little bit more as "heroic swashbuckler film protagonist" than "swarthy sea dog".

Don't see what's wrong with the hair, either. I think the hair texture, the pronounced cheekbones, and the lip color give her a nice Afro-Caribbean look, and of course tying the hair back with a bandana feels appropriate for a rough-and-tumble pirate life.

The cockatoo looks fantastic, but it does have me hoping LEGO will finally get around to updating the parrot/macaw mold with printed eyes and a printed or dual-molded beak — nowadays it's looking pretty rudimentary and lifeless-looking compared to other modern LEGO birds!

Eager to see more pics so we can see if she has any alternate face print or right arm printing. But very impressed with what we can see on the leaflet!

I like the torso, bird & the legs even though they are the mid ones, at least they are printed.  Never been a fan of that hair piece, would much have preferred another style pirate hat with hair.  The face is meh but I guess it looks like an angry, fighting face.  I've always disliked the fabric skirt pieces as they never hang right.  I will most likely get a few of these for the bird, legs & torso.

Huh, did not know there was a pirate figure getting released at all. I was only tracking the Wolfpack beastmaster, but that’s how much I didn’t pay attention to this figure because it didn’t remind me of a pirate at all.

Wasn't the last CMF pirate we got also female? Hopefully when the next one happens in a few years we get a male pirate again as the one standard CMF male pirate we got is absolutely fantastic (with unique "bald bandana" and printed map pieces plus cool arm tattoo print).

I don't mind the gender here, but for the next one I'd love to get an old (senior age), rough-looking male pirate.

There's a separate appreciation thread for the Scallywag you're referring to : https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/195153-scallywag-pirate-appreciation-thread-best-lego-pirate-ever/

I've got nothing against the occasional "Anne Bonny" pirate, but historically the vast majority of pirates (and seafarers in general) were male. Saying that, there's plenty of scope for "pirate adjacent" female figures and I thought the "Governor's daughter" figure in 70412 was a fun Elizabeth Swan style addition.

Of course it's Lego so kids can do whatever they want but I like a semblance of historical realism when arranging my Lego Pirates (and Castle) set ups personally.

Indeed, we may be facing fatigue; it's not that we don't want new female LEGO Pirate minifigures, but we'd prefer a greater variety of female archetypes from the pirates genre.

Governor's daughter is an obvious choice and we should have had one by now.

Courtesan is perhaps to risqué for LEGO, but innkeepers and market vendors were quite common.

Meanwhile, the LEGO Group is probably quaking in their boots for fear of reinforcing traditional gender stereotypes, even from a historical period in which they were more strongly enforced.

So I'll inject a little creativity will put forth, harbour mistress - in charge of the entire harbour!

Pretty much this. Too afraid of conforming to gender stereotypes or roles.
I really don’t mind female pirates in my collection, I have all the previously released ones. I just think that maybe an imposing type Blackbeard would be cool, the constant stream of “swashbucklers / ren fair hipster” pirates just isn’t really that interesting.

I don't think this is the case at all - certainly, in the recent Castle sets there have been plenty of female minifigures in 'traditional' roles in addition to the female knights. With Pirates, I think it's more a combination of Lego's new policy of broad gender equality within their own IPs (which is a vast improvement on the era of one female character per theme, if that) and there not being many interesting 'traditional' roles for women that fit with the recent sets while also being appropriate. The only missed opportunity was for a Governor's daughter/Camilla Broadside figure in Eldorado Fortress.

You'd be hard pressed to find fault with the Barracuda Bay figures, and innkeepers and such don't really fit in Eldorado Fortress. They'd be a great addition if we had an Imperial Trading Post remake, though. (When it comes to CMF, it's more up for debate, but I definitely don't think most 'traditional' female roles are compelling for a minifigure on its own, in the same way as a generic male peasant/merchant probably wouldn't be. Great as part of a set - but not going to sell much as a standalone thing. You're inherently going to get more female CMFs in ahistorical roles because CMFs skew towards more exciting archetypes, which were historically primarily off-limits to women)

Yeah no issue at all with that.
But with 4/5 of the last pirates being women, and none of them being anything other than “generic pirate” is the problem.
I’d love to see a governess, or island females to pair with the last islanders cmf we got. It’s the lack of range that’s stifling.
I’d argue that the cmf line has become overly tokenistic over the past 5-6 lines but that’s a debate for another day, and why the dnd line will likely be remembered for being the best ever made.
