Yeah no issue at all with that.
But with 4/5 of the last pirates being women, and none of them being anything other than “generic pirate” is the problem.
I’d love to see a governess, or island females to pair with the last islanders cmf we got. It’s the lack of range that’s stifling.
I’d argue that the cmf line has become overly tokenistic over the past 5-6 lines but that’s a debate for another day, and why the dnd line will likely be remembered for being the best ever made.

I see it as a catch-up with  the predominance of male characters in earlier releases or sets. It gives us more variety in this era for non-pirate roles if necessary. For instance even a crew of pirates had to seek out a port from time to time to unwind, and let the inhabitants welcome them with much-needed relief.

I don't think this is the case at all - certainly, in the recent Castle sets there have been plenty of female minifigures in 'traditional' roles in addition to the female knights.

I haven't been keeping up with Castle lately so your observation is probably more accurate than my assumption.

You're inherently going to get more female CMFs in ahistorical roles because CMFs skew towards more exciting archetypes, which were historically primarily off-limits to women)

More female CMFs in historical roles isn't the issue; like @thewatchman stated, it's more they're "generic pirates" rather than exciting archetypes relevant to the genre.

That said, I don't think the upcoming CMF is generic as this one finally is venturing outside the pony tail in the tricorn mould.

I mean, it's not as we haven't gotten male pirate minifigs during the same span of time as the female pirate minifigs being talked about — even if a lot of them aren't as exciting as a CMF with several brand-new prints. In fact, one of the two female Build-A-Mini pirates in question repurposed a torso previously used for male pirates in the Creator 3-in-1 Pirate Ship and Scary Pirate Island GWP, neither of which included any female characters.

More male pirate CMFs would definitely be awesome, make no mistake, but it hardly strikes me as a runaway trend to get two female pirate CMFs five years apart, especially when all the pirate CMFs before that were male. Seems to me more like the designers are just approaching these two figures from the perspective of "how can we make a new pirate who stands out from previous ones?" And that's easy to do with female pirates, since they've been so much scarcer in past sets and CMF series than male ones.

In this particular case, I suspect it also helped that there was a relatively recent hair piece with bandana, never used for a previous pirate minifig, all ready to go — presenting a great opportunity to make a pirate that stands out from their crewmates while still leaving room in the budget for a new animal mold.

And, more to the point, if you were to go and buy the build-a-minifigs at the LEGO store as intended, you could put any head you wanted on them, male or female, so these figures aren't really relevant to this particular scenario.

That’s a knife that cuts both ways.
A female head could be put on pretty much all the previous pirate torsos with no issue.
More pieces from these cmfs are gendered than other pirate figures.

Nah, I'm just saying that I don't see the point in bringing up the BAM figures at all since, in addition to Aanchir's excellent points, the whole idea is you can choose what heads (or any other accessories) you want. It's apples and oranges to the CMF discussion.

Unfortunately some regions... or countries, don't have LEGO stores so there's no choice but to buy the BAM minifigures in their default configuration.

I like her better now but something about her is off

Cant put my finger on what is it

I find the proportions are the things that feels off to me! With short legs and huge hair, it feels like there's 30% minifigure below the waist and 70% above. Just makes if look really oddly proportioned. Don't think it would look as bad if it didn't have such a "tall" hairpiece.

What’s with the lime dot speckling on the sleeve line? And the gold tooth seems a bit off.
That and I dunno why they used the cockatoo rather than a new McCaw or parrot part.

The leg printing is cool; useful for dnd figs I suppose.

Maybe I haven't been keeping up with this discussion but it seems the point has been missed.

Nobody has complained about the number of female minifigures being released and demanded more male pirate minfigs instead.

The argument was; there should be more variety in the female minifigs relevant to the Pirates theme, rather than just generic pirate after pirate.

And perhaps some feel this way because the recent female pirate minifigs (released independently of sets) have all used the same tricorn/ponytail piece, attributing to this genericism.

In my own opinion, the designers have succeeded in breaking the mould with the Pirate Quartermaster minifigure and delivered a refresher design.

But what next for future pirate CMFs?

With a bit of luck, some privateers, soldiers, or some asiatic pirates would be incredible.

Or more islanders because they are my favourites.

Anyway, returning to Quartermaster Minifigure...

Innovation!  Pirates have always be accompanied by macaws so it was time for something different!

A cockatoo does seem a bit geographically displaced, given they're an Australian bird, rather than a tropical bird species present in Central America.

A toucan would be a more fitting choice, but perhaps the designers wanted to use a completely new bird mould.

What be this a new McCaw or parrot part yer refer to?

Oh I just mean an updated parrot would be more useful surely?

And that creates the argument: why does it always have to be a parrot?  Can't we get something different for a change?

Also, a cockatoo is a species of parrot... so we got an updated parrot with a crest this time.

Mid sized legs

In the original image, it appears to be regular legs. I think the photo of the pamphlet was slightly folded, making the legs appear shorter. I reckon the fig's not that bad: the hair is swappable, the face is unusable for me, the torso is a little cheesy but should blend in with other pirates, and the legs are alright. The skirt piece is alright too, and I'm just happy to have a fabric piece.

The main thing that saves this fig is the sword.

Just kidding, it's the cockatoo. As an Australian, I'm stoked to have a sulfur-crested cockatoo for Aussie outback MOCs etc..

Another Aussie here huh?

Maybe I dislike the piece from over exposure. Much prefer macaws!

Excuse me ignorance... but how many sets has this cockatoo been in?

Since I'm ridiculously focused on pirates, this is the first time I've seen it. :pir-grin:

I meant the actual bird, they screech a lot.

Am I the only one who is a bit disappointed about the normal legs?

Mid-legs and shorter appearance would have really added some character to her

I really dislike the short legs because you cannot style them. but wouldn't mind the mid-legs. it is what it is, I like the new minifig, cannot wait till they're in stock
