Looks good! I don’t have the new parts yet, so I will probably either build it once I have the parts or adapt it to the parts I have. They look really clean.

Looks nice and simple, though for proper RC operation, it would require supports in the middle as well, which would make it not fit into 11 long frames. Also, the standard version is quite a bit high for not too big MOCs. I wonder if a more flat design would be possible by moving the forks to the sides, one to left, one to right..

Thanks! Yes, moving gears to a side is a good option I am using in what I’m creating now

I did not mean gears, I meant the forks. Moving gears can be an option as well, but in many cases keeping gears centered makes things simpler.

That's not quite accurate. On a real transmission, the selector is what your hand grabs, and shift forks are the pieces that move a gear onto its spline. I don't know if, in Lego, it's all one piece. But there is a technical difference if you were to build a realistic transmission model. You can see mine (it's nearly life-size) at the 3:30 mark of the video here:

Okay, it may be that the stick is called the selector, and the orange parts are called changeover catch, rotary and fork, respectively. Though the rotary is often called wave selector..

And even in this model, the stick/selector and the shift forks are separate, and the stick moves the forks, as you can see in the assembly video above.

Anyways, I guess it's clear which ones I proposed to move to the sides, there's only one gearstick and it would not make much sense to move that one.. When I say fork, I mean the fork shaped one, it's that simple.

Ok, sorry for the incorrect terms. I meant the selector. Yeah, that would reduce the size, although if you move / rotate the selector, wouldn’t that make it so that it wouldn’t be in line with the center? For a realistic model, you would want the selector to be centered over the gearbox, which would be centered in the car, right?

also, @evank, that’s a really cool transmission and engine! It looks awesome.

I don't get it.

 It was 8 years ago, and it had already great maturity in lego buildings as well as filming. How can you have so much young hands ?

I mean it's impressive to learn that Paave is so young, knowing that 8 years ago he already managed to to so good mocs !

It mean he did so good without needing years of mocing experience, which is great !

 

He is one of the best technic mocer after all.
