Book for budding technic builder?

My 6 year old has gotten into Technic and wants a book on the subject. I have a dog-eared version of Sariel’s first edition Unofficial Lego Technic book but I would like to get him his own book; unfortunately it looks like the second edition is out of print. Isogawa’s books seem too simple for him. What would you suggest for a precocious 6 year old - ideally something he can get value from now but grow into over time?

Hmm, I'm not really aware of anything more advanced than Isogawa's books, other than the Unofficial Lego Technic Builder's Guide.

That's too bad that the second edition is out of print! There's a few copies in the $60 USD range on Ebay, but at least the first edition is still readily available at low prices, there and on Amazon. Honestly, I'd likely just get another copy of the first edition. Were there really significant changes to the Technic parts lineup between 2012 and 2016? I don't think there was anything huge that really affected Technic building strategy in that time period, so I think the "newer" aspect of it isn't that relevant. IIRC, the other additions were the chapter on 3D printing and the chapter on planetary gearing, but the core book is still about as relevant as the 2nd edition.

Now, a future 3rd edition would, I feel, add a lot over the older ones! The transition to PU electronics, the introduction of rotary-selector gearboxes and additional clutch gears, and the massive explosion in new parts the last few years, would mean that any future book would have significant value added to it over the older ones

Thanks @2GodBDGlory! I hadn’t realized the second edition didn’t add much (and I agree a third edition could be great.) Maybe I will start with an Isogawa book for the holidays and go from there. Sariel’s book is too complex for my son at the moment.

I jave a copy of sariel's "Incredible Lego technic" book, but it doesn't really have any tips as it's more of a model index of sorts. I got it from another country, as it's not available where I live.

Mark Rollins - The Ultimate LEGO Technic Book: How to Build Complex Vehicles and Machines (2024)

I recently came across this book - it describes the creation of a car in Lego Technic from a general description of the parts to the creation of entire units. The book was published this year and in the US you should easily find it on sale.

Ooh, that looks very cool! I didn't know that existed, but now I'd love to read it! (Though not enough to actually buy one. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one at a library!)

From the latest books on Lego Technics I also came across an album with pictures by the famous author "Yoshihito Isogawa - LEGO Technic Non-Electric Models - Simple Machines (2021)".

It might still be for sale.
