Hello

maybe it is a bit weird question here on EB regarding vacuum cleaner model :)

So I life in a medium sized flat and have kids so there are quite lot of bricks on a floor around a flat.

Some bricks are deliberately put on a floor surface for bigger playing and building area, while some lost accidentally during playing, etc.

Now I use old bagless type vacuum cleaner which is good as it has transparent - clear bin where it is easy to see bricks picked-up (sucked) inside, among dust :)

However bagless design has its flaws as not so big bin (about 2 liters), and requirement for frequent maintenance or otherwise filters gets congested easily.

Therefore I consider buying bag type design vacuum cleaner but concern is that it will be harder to retrieve bricks which was sucked inside while cleaning.

So do you have any experience or recommendations?

Kind regards :)

Try to avoid the problem. For example, get your kids to use the LEGO on a large tray or a large drawstring bag to stop them spreading over the floor.

Agreeing with MAB, avoiding is better than solving later.
Depending on your kids' age, it could be a way to teach them responsibility while you're at it. For example set a day in the week you're going to be cleaning, and warn them to collect and store their bricks the day before if they don't want to risk losing them. If they don't heed the warning, confront them with consequences (for example pick up a brick or two you know they're going to miss and store them somewhere so they will feel the loss, even if only for a moment).

To your actual question about vacuum cleaner models, I have no answer. If you generally have a very clean place (never wearing outside shoes inside, no pets, frequent cleaning) maybe a filter could help. But yeah anything that can remove dirt can and will remove small bricks as well I'm afraid.

I use a bagless Bissell that has a clear bin.  I can see and hear the LEGO pieces.  Plus it is easier to get the pieces out than cutting open and digging through a full vacuum bag. There is more maintenance like you said. I have to empty more frequently but it is less dirt to go through should LEGO get sucked up. I blow out the filters with a leaf blower.
