This guy is clearly stealing away @kbalage's fame. Can't you two have a mutual cartel agreement that RB will publish Technic reviews first? ;)

He's younger and clearly has more free time than me, as he records the videos in both Hungarian and English :D My reviews are coming, a bit slowly but surely, have a lot of things on my plate nowadays.

I really like the model but the intrusive amount of different colours really hurts my eyes. TLG went completly out of control with it.

Should we count how many different colours are used (without any reason) in this set...? We better don't...

Well, research submarines do have bright colors typically. Also, this is smaller set aimed for younger kids, of course it is colorful. In this case, many colors don't bother me at all.

Thanks again for the review.

With all the times we speculate if a future set is coming based on the parts that are included with a current set, it may be time to map this correlation. I understand the tendency to speculate with this, but I have not seen enough of an argument that proves this speculation.

Maybe we'll see a sand blue mini car, but just as maybe that we will not.

I hope that's the reason (a car or any other set to provide more sand blue parts), because to me the hard-to-MOC-with colour is the worst aspect of this set.

That is true, it is still speculation. But I don't recall seeing a small Technic set with so many recolored elements recently, especially to a color that was virtually absent from the theme before. We know the recolor slots are valuable to the teams/designers, so using them in an unlicensed set that could have any existing colors doesn't make sense unless those parts are planned to be used elsewhere.

I guess that's true, and you would have more information about how the teams/designers prioritize their resources.

Sorry @kbalage, I didn't mean to call you out. Mostly I would be interested in a study of the correlation of new parts/new colors with future sets. Maybe I still feel burned by getting so excited about the future of purple due to 42069 and getting nothing since then.

I hope 42201 is the start of more Sand Blue.

I suppose the most prominent example is 42147 Dump Truck in 2023 leading 42154 Ford GT and 42172 Mclaren P1 by ~6 and ~18 months, on Dark Blue + Bright Light Orange parts which are only in those sets.  It would make sense that a smaller set has a shorter development time and uses the parts before the flagship they were required for.  Though I'm not sure it applies to a $40 set using parts made for a $60 set.

One of the cons is actually pretty damning.

Technic is not doomed. In fact Technic as a building system is very much alive and evolves every year. As it get more new parts, new possibilities open up. It's just Technic as a brand feels stagnant, but that is when the Technic spirit should be found elsewhere.

(Like my JCB 3CX Compact Backhoe perhaps )

EXACTLY.

It would be nice if there was a place to hold it that makes it swooshable while operating the mechanical functions. It feels awkward to relocate my hands and I always drop the little thingamabob. I think I may add a handle or something.
